Republican candidate John McCain and other Republican leaders have charged that community organizing group ACORN has been involved in fraudulent voter registration. Two former Republican Senators today asked Senator Barack Obama to personally deal with the allegations, claiming that he has specific ties to the ACORN. Boy, that United States Senate is a funny little forum. As this year’s session draws to a close, so do the storied careers of several esteemed senators such as Nebraska Republican Chuck Hagel, New Mexico Republican Pete Domenici and Virginia Republican John Warner. The tributes came today on the Senate floor from the likes of Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, who told Warner that he admired his silvery mane. Warner, a World War II veteran and ex-Navy secretary, entered the Senate three decades ago. He was initially derided as a lightweight by some political Critics because he was known mainly for being Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor’s husband. But Warner rose to become a legend himself as Armed Services Committee chairman and for opposing the Senate election bid by GOP hero Ollie North. Instead, the Senate version won out and minor modifications were made to alleviate Critics' biggest fears, Morris said, acknowledging that "we have fewer concerns than we once did."
