From NBC's Abby Livingston If Rick Santorum delivered tough love to the CPAC audience, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) followed him with sunshine. He opened his remarks calling his wife "hot," and then declared, "The reports of the demise of the conservative movement are greatly exaggerated." He followed up with, "I've been to CPAC before. You are not timid. You are not weak." Amid his jokes and anecdotes and metaphors and smiles, the oft-mentioned 2012 GOP contender was on the prowl to shore up his conservative credentials. He hit as many boilerplate issues as he could, using the word "God" often; he praised standardized testing; and he railed against the tenure system in public education. But at a convention where Al Gore is the equivalent of Public Enemy No. 1, Pawlenty advocated for alternative energy. He called for an "all hands on deck" approach to get off oil. ...( read more ) ...

The legal fight between Al Franken and Norm Coleman is headed to the desk of Gov. Tim Pawlenty -- a no-win predicament for a Minnesota Republican with his eye on a White House run in 2012. Franken won big Tuesday when a three-judge panel allowed the review of no more than 400 absentee ballots in a race he currently leads by 225 votes. Coleman's camp says an appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court is coming; once that's done, the dispute lands in Pawlenty's lap. More on Al Franken ...

The end of the interminable U.S. Senate race between Democrat Al Franken and outgoing GOP incumbent Norm Coleman catches at least one prominent Republican in a foul mood – not about the race’s long-delayed outcome, but about the fact that his party dragged its feet for so long. Former Gov. Arne Carlson expressed anger that Coleman, the national Republican Party and Minnesota GOP Gov. Tim Pawlenty let the post-election legal contest drag on for nearly eight months. The ex-governor spoke just moments before Coleman conceded the race to Franken Tuesday afternoon, following Coleman’s 5-0 loss before the Minnesota State Supreme Court that declared Franken’s victory should be certified. “You can use the legal system in a proper way and you can use the legal system for mischief,” Carlson said. “What, frankly, the Republican Party nationally did on this case was use the legal system for mischief. And as a Republican, I find that very offensive.” Though Coleman and his legal team proclaimed a desire to have “every vote count” –a justification that Coleman repeated in his afternoon press conference Tuesday – Carlson was having none of it. In the Republican response to President Obama’s weekly address today, Gov.
