I know it's kinda crazy to think that somebody is trying to depress stocks with market caps in the hundreds of billions like aapl and GOOG. But it seems like these two stocks behave very similarly. Other than the fact that they have some affliations in the highest managment level, are they link in some other ways? ...

Fundamentally, Google is a very solid company, well on it's rise to become the dominant web services company on the web. Right now, their primary source of revenue is search results based sponsored ads, and it's comforting to know that Google continues to grow, even in this increasingly competitive environment. I'm sure most of you saw from ...

Filed under: Launches , Consumer experience , Google (GOOG) Google (NASDAQ: GOOG ) will enter the medical records business with held of The Cleveland Clinic, one of the top hospitals in the world. According to The Wall Street Journal (subscription required), " Under the pilot, patients who already use Cleveland Clinic's personal health record system can securely share medical information such as prescriptions, conditions and allergies between the Cleveland Clinic system and a Google health-profile online." The program is a good idea. Patients' records currently are tied to the data held by doctors and hospitals. If a patient wants to access their data or share it with other health-care providers, they have to request and wait, sometimes for days, to get information that could be very useful in their treatment. The Google program may ruffle feathers of both doctors and health-care software management companies. Doctors are concerned with keeping records private. Once they are stored and accessible on the web this will be harder to control. Software companies which supply programs for managing medical records may find that the Google system competes with some of their business based on organizing and storing patient information. But, for the patient who now has new-found access to his own data, the program gives them power over their own medical data. Douglas A. McIntyre is an editor at 247wallst.com. ...

Filed under: Launches , Consumer experience , Competitive strategy , Google (GOOG) Google (NASDAQ: GOOG ) will begin to sell ads that will run with videos on third party sites. The company wants to try to take advantage of the boom in online video using a targeting system similar to the one it has developed for text ads. According to the FT , "Google's video ads will take one of two forms: banner ads, which will run at the top of the video screen, and "overlay" ads, which will be inserted on top of videos as they play." Sites with video will be able to sign up for the service the same way that they do for the Google Adsense text ad program. The project has a lot of risk. Text ads appear off to the side of content and do not directly interfere with the user's experience at a website. Ads that "overlay" video, insert themselves directly into the user's line of site, which could lead to people actually deciding they do not want to watch video with market messages. Viewership at some sites could then drop. The new Google program may look good on paper, but the consequences of the project may make it unpopular with website operators. Douglas A. Filed under: Industry , Consumer experience , Competitive strategy , Google (GOOG) , Microsoft (MSFT) , China , China Mobile Limited (CHL) Google (NASDAQ: GOOG ) is not making the kind of headway it would like to in China. It still runs far behind local search engine Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU ) in market share. Reuters thinks it has the road-map for the US company and it involves Google "linking up with local partners, navigating draconian regulations and understanding Chinese tastes." Easily said. Google is not allowed to bring in its Google News product and use it to any effect due to censorship regulations. In the meantime, Baidu has been allowed to start its own news service. Local copyright rules do not allow the US company to offer its free music search function. Companies like China Mobile (NYSE: CHL ) are controlled by government regulators and the large cellular provider can pick which search functions it allows on its handsets. It can also set fees for software providers like Google and set them very high. Reuters points out that the Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT ) MSN product in China is part of a joint venture that is run by the son of a former Chinese president. All of this seems a bit sordid, and perhaps it is. Google, however, has to decide if it is willing to go to extraordinary lengths to move into the big market, or keep some of its dignity and take what market share it can get throug ...

(C) , Research in Motion (RIMM) , Delta Air Lines (DAL) Before the bell: Futures sharply lower as oil rallies, dollar declines, GM takes a charge Almost any stock I've looked at so far has been down over 1% from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL ), Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN ), Reearch in Motion (NASDAQ: RIMM ) -- down about 1.2% as of 7:30 -- to Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C ) -- down over 1.7% -- to Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F ) -- down over 1.8%. This gives another indication to the direction the market will be taking at the open. I expect stocks to be hammered. Unlike GM's earnings, Toyota Motor Corp. (NYSE: TM ) reported that its quarterly profit rose 11% on solid overseas sales and it raised its earnings forecast for the full year. Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT ) said it fired its chief information officer for violating company policies. No more details were provided. Meanwhile, today, the company said it signed an agreement with China's No. 2 personal computer maker to pre-install Microsoft's Windows operating system in PCs to combat widespread Chinese product piracy. Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL ) has reached a 10-year, $1 billion plus deal with Chromalloy Gas Turbine Corporation. The agreement will help the airline expand the t ...

Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) is launching a new program to put ads at third party sites which have video content. The program will work much like its Adsense text product. The display ads and video overlays which will go with the moving pictures will be targeted based on the content itself. While the text ads from Google Adsense sit off to the side of content, the new ad program, especially the overlays which run on top of the video, can be seen as interfering with the viewer's experience. Some online video users may not like that which could cut views and... ...
