Ah the sad, defeatist irony of remixing Beck: your remix will never be anywhere near as good as anything Beck, like sneezes out as an afterthought, but you can still play around with our scratch-and-riff MTV remix toys. Beck 's Danger Mouse-produced latest LP, Modern Guilt , already feels like it came out a long time ago, whether because of its out-of-time 1960s psych touches or just due to all the crazy news that's happened since its summer release. Mr. Hansen could've looked something like this on a "Late Show With David Letterman" appearance at various points in the past decade-plus, too, but this time he does a stu-stu-stuttering take on Modern Guilt 's paranoid trip " GAMMA RAY ". Who's got the "cactus crown"? That one. [from Modern Guilt ; out now on XL / Interscope ] ... Source: space.newscientist.com --- 31 days ago

clipped by: CHBaab Clip Source: imagine.gsfc.nasa.gov Until recently, GRBs were arguably the biggest mystery in high-energy astronomy . They were discovered serendipitously in the late 1960s by U.S. military satellites which were on the look out for Soviet nuclear testing in violation of the atmospheric nuclear test ban treaty. These satellites carried GAMMA RAY detectors since a nuclear explosion produces GAMMA rays. As recently as the early 1990s, astronomers didn't even know if GRBs originated at the edge of our solar system, in our Milky Way Galaxy or incredibly far away near the edge of the observable Universe. (That is, they didn't know how far away GRBs were to within a factor of a few billion light years !) But now a slew of satellite observations, follow-up ground-based observations, and theoretical work have allowed astronomers to link GRBs to supernovae in distant galaxies. ... After two months of calibration and testing, NASA’s GAMMA-RAY Large Area Space Telescope has started to deliver the goods, providing scientists with an all-sky image of the Milky Way. The all-sky image combines 95 hours of “first light” observations from the Large Area Telescope, which is 30 times more sensitive than any previous space-based GAMMA-RAY instrument. ..
