Michael Haneke es un provocador nato. Se salta a la torera todas las reglas conocidas y por conocer en esto del cine, dejando en manos del espectador la libre interpretación y la aceptación o no del juego que el director propone. En 1997 decidió presentarnos su ya mítica ‘Funny Games’ , proponiendo un thriller cuyo punto de partida era terrible, y no me refiero a la calidad, si no a lo difícilmente insoportable de la misma. La tranquilidad de un matrimonio y su hijo pequeño es literalmente violada por dos desconocidos que se escapan a todos los dibujos psicológicos realizados sobre los asesinos en serie. La familia somos en cierto modo nosotros, y en cierto modo esos dos imbéciles repelentes son el director. Brutal e impactante, pero Haneke comete el error a mi juicio de jugar demasiado con el espectador. El hecho de subrayar que todo lo que vemos es ficción se me antoja una decisión de lo más caprichosa, y el film pierde toda su presunta fuerza. ¿Es su remake también un capricho por parte de su director? ¿Estamos ante una operación similar a la que Gus van Sant realizó con su infumable ‘Psicosis’? La corriente gafapasta, que adora todo lo que hagan los directores Wong Kar-Wai, Lars von Trier, Peter Greenaway, Michelangelo Antonioni o Andrei Tarkovski (por citar algunos), y que no pueden vivir sin decir que ‘Oldboy’ es una de las mejores películas de la historia, seguramente ya le ha echado el ojo a un cineasta austriaco que a base de provocaciones, escenas duras y un surrealismo que perpetra el esnobismo más irreverente, ya ha salido sobradamente del anonimato. Se trata de Michael Haneke , un hombre que hace lo que hace intentando ser el trangresor por excelencia dentro del cine mundial, y que con varias pinceladas tan bizarras como desagradables fundamenta sus películas en el mayor desconcierto y, para muchos, indignación. En lo que llevamos de década hemos podido ver tres películas suyas, ‘ El La Pianista’, ‘Caché’ y ‘El Tiempo del Lobo’, a cual más desgarradora y lenta, que han puesto a Haneke en el ojo del huracán. Yéndonos ya a ‘ Funny Games ’, película de 1997 que dio muchísimo que hablar a pesar de su limitada distribución, lo primero que hay que decir es que es una película que implica al espectador hasta límites insospechados. Michael Haneke , un ídolo de la legión gafapasta, un pretencioso sin remedio, hace una película en 1997, con presupuesto limitado y una aceptación extensa dentro de sus circunstancias, titulada ‘Funny Games’. Diez años más tarde, contando con una producción un poco más generosa, actores más atractivos y conocidos, Haneke rueda, plano por plano, la misma película . No sólo es la pedantería autocomplaciente del cineasta austriaco el posible germen de este autoremake innecesario, sino la posible llegada a las masas populares de lo que algunos intelectualoides llaman la obra maestra de Haneke. Ahora no son varios actores austriacos los que campan a sus anchas a lo largo del metraje, sino nada menos que Tim Roth, Naomi Watts y Michael Pitt , tres actores de la industria de Hollywood, provistos de talento (cada uno a su manera) y con una filmografía consolidada sobretodo en el caso de los dos primeros. Como la película es exactamente la misma, resulta difícil reseñar esta película sin limitarse a enumerar las diferencias entre esta película y su predecesora. Aunque, ciertamente, llamar predecesora a la de 1997 sería erróneo, porque ‘ Funny Games US ’ ni siquiera es una secuela. In this shot-by-shot remake of the 1997 artistic exploration of violence, a bourgeoisie family, comprised of wife Anna, husband George, and son Georgie, take their summer vacation at their luxurious lake-front house on Long Island. Shortly after settling in, a young man by the name of Peter shows up at the front door, requesting some eggs to borrow for their neighbor. Peter is quickly joined by another young man, Paul, who comes in to check on Peter. The men seem very polite at first, but soon, however, something about them begins to rub Ann the wrong way: Peter breaks the eggs that Ann gives him twice in a row and accidentally knocks Ann’s cell phone into the sink; Peter takes a golf club out front to try out; and, shortly after, their dog is missing. Ann soon gets fed up with them, and asks them to leave. The men’s attitude quickly changes, and when George asks the men to leave, Peter grabs a golf club and breaks George’s leg with it. The two men take the family hostage and begin to play Games that involve physically and mentally torturing them.
