Harman v. Hague with Fraser Nelson from noon: 12:00 I’m still cross with William Hague for pitching up at that Lake Como villa at the Barclays Wealth shindig that was in the Papers before he left. Utter idiocy. Sure, he arrived on its last day to accompany his wife who works there. But his political instincts should have told him to stay a million miles away, when the event got in the tabloids as a fat cat extravaganza. So his stand-up comedy at PMQs had best be good today. 12:05 Hague back again on Chapter 11, this time with FSB ...

We may have liked the remake of Journey To The Center Of The Earth more than we expected, but here's something we don't like so much: 130 special effects artists who worked on the movie have been forced to take the producers to court - and worse yet, involve star Brendan Fraser - to try and get the $1 million they're still owed for their work on the underground adventure flick. The Montreal Gazette reports that around 130 special effects artists who worked on the movie have been owed payment since November of last year, when Meteor Studios - the producers of the film, who have since filed for bankruptcy - closed their effects studio upon completion of their work. After months of unsuccessfully trying to get paid by Meteor's parent companies, Evergreen Digital LLC and Discovery Trademark Holding Co., the artists have resorted to the lawsuit and even more desperate measures: Brendan Fraser, star of the 3D action film that has grossed more than $102 million U.S. worldwide to date, has even gone to bat for the former Meteor Studios Inc. workers by making personal calls to the shareholders of the local company, which filed for bankruptcy in March. Meteor's bankruptcy Papers blamed the WGA strike as the main source of financial losses. Both parent companies aren't commenting on the case: "Discovery Communications held a passive non-controlling shareholder interest in Meteor Studios, an independent company incorporated under the Quebec ... Why when I read an article in the Papers this morning did the REM song rebound through my mind? Apparently, in the words of Corporal Fraser "We're doooomed". On September 10th the largest particle physics laboratory at CERN fires up its LHC (Large Hadron Collider) in an attempt to replicate the moment of the Big Bang. Am I the only person to think that maybe this should be left well alone considering the 'impact' the first Big Bang had? Time to make whoopee me thinks.... ... Well, finally the Papers have caught up with my news from Sunday. The Times are 'breaking' the story about Iain Gray and Margaret Curran running together on a joint ticket while The Scotsman brings the 'surprising' news that Andy Kerr is possibly not going to go for it after all. Perhaps standing as deputy behind Cathy Jamieson (now, where did we hear that before ...!) Ahh, you can't beat a bit of bragging every now and again. (A notable tip of the hat to my well-placed source, of course!) To be fair though, I didn't see this coming. Charlie Gordon to throw his hat in the ring . And.... news just in.... Ken McIntosh!! Labour cannot win with all of these people scrapping away for the top job. You have to wonder if they all really think they are talented enough to do a proper job or do they just want the £20k pay bump and extra staff? Either way, let's be clear, this summer is going to see more in-fighting, backbiting and blood letting than any of Shakespeare's finest plays possessed. And what of Andy Kerr? Across all of the UK media outlets he has been heavily tipped to be the next leader. How much of a poisoned chalice will the job seem to be if he is seen to walk away from a sure thing. And we saw what damage such reticence did to Murdo Fraser with the elusive Tory leadership so Andy should ca' canny as they say... Personally, as an SNP supporter, I am not concerned at all. The sheer dearth of talent on the Scottish Labour benches means ... Source: www.mingcampbell.org.uk --- 76 days ago

You wanted some response to your views on gun control and etc. Here's a quick one. You wrote: Gun control: It doesn't work. There is no research that proves it does. The facts are clear, it increases crime. Simon Fraser University professor Gary Mauser finds that a year after the British obediently surrendered 160,000 legal handguns, London muggings were up 53 percent, gun murders up 90 percent and robbery up more than 100 percent. By the year following, annual gun crimes overall had risen 39 percent. I am more familiar with American studies than the material you note above. In most cases, people advocating (like yourself) for "conceal carry" legislation tend to rely on the work of John Lott and Brandon S. Centerwall. Their work has been in turn been extensively criticized by writers such as Duggan and Dan A. Black, who was kind enough to send me .pdfs of a number of his Papers. I confess to be ill equipped to decide between their varying statistical arguments for and against the more "guns = more/less crime argument", although Duggan seems to have established fairly conclusively that higher rates of gun ownership and availability leads to higher suicide rates , especially among men. But lets get serious, shall we? The Tories didn't blast your ass out the door for merely holding somewhat eccentric (in the Canadian context) views on gun control. They turfed you because you accused women and gays who do not hold the same views as your own ... Source: nanolog.blogspot.com --- 52 days ago
I was gutted to hear that Garry B had pulled out due to a double booking... but was delighted when I heard that my boy, Jon Godfrey, had stepped up! He is a gifted speaker... a channel for God's word for now... and he spoke directly to everyone gathered on Saturday night. I hope to post the video later (when I can get my MacBook up and running) so I won't spoil it other than to say his theme was looking at our actions under the banner "what on earth are you doing???" After some mash-ups from me... my good friends, Jen and Paul, led us in a time of Sonworship during which we had an interactive spell where the participants got together and reviewed good and bad stories from the news Papers strategically placed on their tables. People got involved and interacted... which was great to witness... soundtracked by "Albertine" Brooke Fraser' fab 2nd album. Jon then took to the floor... and as I said above challenged everyone there. It was great to see some new faces... and some "people of peace" - real connectors - who will hopefully spread the word and bring more people next time. Debrief is on Wednesday... so if you were there and have any comments... please leave a comment or drop me an email/tweet/Facebook msg. My thanks to the team: Jen and Paul, Tony, Kieren, and Lucy for everything... and to Jon for stepping up/in at the last minute! You guys rock!!! Posted with LifeCast ...
