Springtime in Paris, blah blah blah. Despite their proclivity for swing clubs , kinky saunas , and other libertine pleasures, it turns out the citizens of the supposedly most romantic city on earth aren't all born Romeos and sex kittens. Love coaches, bondage, spanking, and sex toy lessons at the city's chicest sex shops : here's a list of useful addresses where Parisians go to keep up their reputations as the sluttiest people on the planet. Pity the poor out-of-luck French dude who can't score a date despite his supposedly god-given talent for romance. But the impotent and love-starved are out there walking the Paris streets. And to rescue them, an underground society of entrepreneurial "seduction coaches" have started holding seminars for the sexually insecure, charging them beaucoup euros for methodical approaches to seducing Women. Local evangelist of the American Mystery Method Sébastien Night addresses such French-specific dating concerns as: Do you tutoyer your desired prey or stick with the more formal vous when making a come-on? Should you say Excusez-moi before approaching a girl, as you would a shopkeeper, or just go for it with a bold "Bonjour"? "We are the pilots of the airplane," says traveling love coach Night, who traverses France giving his Seduction by Night seminars to small groups of hopeful Young men. "Don't wait for the girl." He offers everything from a €295 simple seminar that teaches me ...

'Sex and the City' star Jason Lewis has revealed that he once had a fling with an older Women, saying that "older Women rock, especially when you're Young". As Lewis gets ready for the big screen debut of his hit television show, he revealed to Elle magazine that he's alot like his character, Smith Jerrod, and has a thing for older ladies. "When I was living in France," Lewis divulges, "I had a couple-month affair with a woman who was around 50. I never let her see where I lived, because I was a little scared of her. We’d meet in the city and she’d take me out to her chateau, have this great dinner, make love. In the morning, I’d ride her horse while she cooked me breakfast. Then she’d drop me off in Paris." Lewis also reveals that he once dated a "beautiful" girl who had an unfortunate body odour problem. "I remember thinking, 'Your arms stink. Your breath stinks. Oh, God, even your hair stinks.' I had no idea what to do. I remember asking a female friend, 'What do I do? Slip her acidophilus when I cook for her?'” He says he never informed the fragrant lady, explaining, "No, because there were other reasons. I think if I really loved somebody, I could probably get over the stench." NEXT: Eva Mendes Strips For Magazine Shoot   Photo courtesy of Papermag.  ...

Roselyne Bachelot, the French Minister of Health, would like to ban outright the “anti-youth” device known in France as Beethoven , and in England as The Mosquito . The device, a CD that emits ultrasounds at 17,000 hertz over an area of 20 yards, is designed to disturb the hearing of the Young, which is much keener than that of adults. Businesses and apartment buildings where gangs congregate and commit mayhem use the device to repel the youth, and it seems to work! At least in England where it has been in use since 2006, in front of certain stores, in buildings and parking lots. But according to Bachelot, as quoted in Le Figaro : I hope it will be totally forbidden whatever legal form that may take. [...] This ban requires an inter-ministerial effort: we have been working together with other government officials ever since the issue became a public controversy. [...] We have no study on what its effects are: the question of its harmlessness is therefore raised both for Young people and pregnant Women. Since this is a question of health, precaution must be exercised. It is hard not to be amused by this. Nobody is allowed to speak negatively of the “youth” , arrests are infrequent and short, cops are restricted in what they can do to stop criminals, the media use doublespeak when describing criminals, and yet it is clear that the citizens are at their wits end and resorting to a type of “insect repellent” to get rid ...

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building' by George Bush. He answered by saying, 'Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine Young men and Women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return. You could have heard a pin drop. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Then there was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break one of the French engineers came back into the room saying 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?' A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and th ...

Summary: CADASIL is a type of stroke disorder that can cause Young onset dementia. Two web sites have been developed by Women whose families are affected by the disease. Billie Duncan-Smith’s husband Steve’s first symptom came when he was 38. He woke up with an excruciating headache, and started vomiting because the pain was so bad. Over the next few years, he would suffer many such migraines, some lasting for several weeks. An MRI of his brain showed a high number of white matter lesions, but Steve’s doctors weren’t sure what was causing his headaches. Billie and Steve in 2004 While Steve suffered, Billie searched the internet and contacted medical experts all over the world. She sent his records and test results to those who offered to help. Finally, someone at the U.S. National Institutes of Health called her to suggest Steve might have CADASIL (Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Sub-cortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalopathy), a type of stroke disorder. Then a professor in France asked Billie to send Steve’s father’s medical records (he had died of a stroke) and to find someone to do the skin biopsy needed for diagnosis. Billie arranged all this. Three years after Steve’s first migraine, the professor in France, along with a doctor in the Netherlands, confirmed that Steve had CADASIL. Four years after he was diagnosed, Steve had his first TIA (transient ischemic attack, a st ...

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes . The latest installment of the movie swap stars Marilyn Monroe . The lovely miss Monroe was the object of obsession for a period of my friend's life, resulting in her collecting all things Marilyn(posters, magazines, trading cards), including all of her movies. Yes this is a little creepy, but she's a nice girl so we'll let it pass. Believe it or not this is my first Marilyn movie. Blondes is a musical(loosely) that also stars Jane Russell . The ladies are a musical act(on Broadway?) that is horribly dated. Mugs said they were dancing like 60 year old Women. We are also subject to the ya-ya-yammering of Monroe's millionaire sap (fiancee) whom she kept calling daddy(yes, as weird as it sounds). The Women decide to take a cruise to France, without the fiancee. The US Olympic team is on board, however, as well as a number of rich men, Young and old. Hi jinx ensue. We are treated to a number of musical numbers, including : The Oh-so-creepy almost naked(flesh colored short shorts-with sweat stains) male gymnasts tumbling and flexing The Uber -bizarre human chandelier in the Paris revue The cool-to-see "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend" performance that inspired the Material Girl video Monroe has a constantly breathless way of speaking that I was able to handle for a movie. As I watch more we'll see if that grates on me. She does have quite a stage presence tho, and I'm intrigued by the stories of her n ...

Dumas, Alexandre. The Three Musketeers. Translated by Richard Pevear. (This translation was published in 2006. The original was published in the 1840s.) On the first Monday of the month of April 1625, the village of Meung, where the author of the Romance of the Rose was born, seemed to be in as total an upheaval as if the Huguenots had come to make a second La Rochelle. Many of the townsmen, seeing Women fleeing along the main street, hearing children crying on the doorsills, hastened to put on their breastplates and, backing up their somewhat uncertain countenances with a musket or a partisan, headed for the Jolly Miller Inn, before which jostled a compact group, noisy, full of curiosity, and growing every minute. Thus begins the classic novel The Three Musketeers. It may not be much of an attention-grabber--especially these days--but believe me, there is more than enough adventure to go around (and then some) in this wonderful classic. Set in seventeenth century France during the reign of Louis XIII, the novel focuses on the life and adventures of a Young man d'Artagnan. His friends. His enemies. His frenemies. His lovers. d'Artagnan is a man without much fortune; when we first meet up with him he is almost penniless--not quite--and is the not-so-proud owner of a yellow nag of a horse. Despite his father urging him to not sell the horse, the first thing d'Artagnan does when he gets the chance is to unload himself of the poor creat ...

En La Ciudad de Sylvia (Spain/France, 2007) * * * D: José Luis Guerín Today we saw two lightweight films with almost no narrative, but lingering, loving views of France, both filmed by outsiders to the country, clearly smitten. The first, from Spain, was this film, which actually owes a great deal to Jacques Tati's Playtime (probably one of the ten greatest films ever made). Dialogue-free for long, long stretches, José Luis Guerín's film follows the gaze of a Young artist (Xavier Lafitte, looking like he just rode in from Peter Jackson's Rivendell) who sits at a French caf é watching the passers-by--mostly the many beautiful Women, and drawing their profiles and the backs of their necks in his sketchbook with a charcoal pencil. A waitress gets her orders confused and spills a drink; a couple sit in icy silence for an eternity until one answers, "No, probably not. But I'll think about it." Young Women gossip and flirt. Eventually our artist gets up and follows one of the Women, pursuing her through labyrinthine streets, bumping up against street vendors, commuters, and street musicians, always in pursuit of the elusive woman, whom he thinks he recognizes from somewhere else. It's a languorous, sensual film in which almost nothing happens, but it nonetheless contains enough to recommend it, from the playful, Tati-esque running jokes in the background, to the complicated layering of faces, bodies, and moving trains reflected in ...

From March 14 to the 23rd this quite interesting festival will take place in Creteil, France and here are some highlights of the fest. The special guest of this year festival is none other than Josiane Balasko that some of you remember from Gazon Maudit; here is the note that explains why she was chosen to be this year’s guest of honor. To celebrate the 30 years of our Festival, we are happy to invite Josiane Balasko, a very important French actress of today, but also a director and a novelist, whose work and commitments we have always highly respected. With her outspokenness, her unique way of being funny and attaching at the same time, Josiane Balasko has established herself as one of the leading figures, impossible to circumvent of the French cinema. She does not resemble anybody, and nobody resembles her. However she is source of a kind of modernity, which one could easily envy her, because as an actress, she is "gender" to the root of her wigs. Able to play an impressive pallet of roles, to change sex as one changes ones shirt, to get into the skin of a bush truck driver (Gazon Maudit) or of a non tamed spit-fire (the Ex-wife of my life)... she irradiates with funniness, but always in a benevolent way towards her fellow mankind . The 30th International Women's Film Festival, in figures: 150 films from all over the world 1 invitée d’honneur 30 leçons de cinéma 30 audience's videos 50 unreleased films by Young Women filmmakers 1 ...
