Barence writes "Mozilla has announced plans to redraft the open-source license underpinning projects such as Firefox . The Mozilla Public License 1.1 has been used to distribute numerous projects including Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenSolaris and Flex for over a decade. In the first phase of this process, Mozilla will release an alpha draft based on feedback already received. This will be followed by 'commentary, discussion, and further drafting, followed by beta and release candidate drafts.' Mozilla intends to 'seriously investigate' whether it can make the MPL compatible with the Apache license, in an effort to 'help projects using the MPL become more flexible about using Apache-licensed code.'" ...

Story Summary: D. , studies how a gene, known as LRRK2, functions normally within brain nerve cells (neurons), and also how it can go awry when mutated. At Mayo, our molecular neuroscience research is now focused on the genetic basis of Parkinsons disease, on the specific proteins and the molecular pathways that are affected, Dr. Farrer says. When brain cells from these animals are grown in laboratory culture, the researchers have found that neurons without LRKK2 branch out more than do neurons with LRRK2, which shows that the gene normally helps regulate neuronal architecture. So we are going to replace pieces of the protein, with and without the mutations that predispose people to develop Parkinsons disease, back into cells derived from these animals to see what roles different regions of the protein play, he says. They will also delete other proteins known to interact with the LRRK2 protein to see their effect. Discovering that your home has a cracked Foundation can be a scary reality. But knowing whether or not your insurance will protect you can be an even more troubling issue. Be sure you know the extent of your insurance coverage ahead of time – it’s never good to assume that your insurance will protect you. Remember that insurance for homeowners will never cover wear and tear, age or basic maintenance. Instead, stay ahead of your home’s repairs and be prepared for eventualities. ...

Freedom From Religion Foundation Freedom From Religion Foundation fights to enforce the separation of church and state in the US. Much of this is through filing lawsuits, but often simply pointing out that something is unconstitutional is enough to end the practice. Some of the most common complaints they receive are polling places in churches, prayer at government meetings, distribution of Bibles or religious material in public schools, or religious oaths required for various government functions. You can search their list of past and current legal challenges . This is a valuable resource for anyone dealing with issues of separation of church and state as it collects together info on the issue and precedent. They also publish books and the monthly newspaper, Freethought Today. You can donate online or you can shop for books and other goodies ...
