These shared the same bore spacing (4.4") as their cast iron predecessors but almost everything else was changed. The bore was reduced to 3.9 in and the stroke longer at 3.62 in. The engine blocks were cast in aluminum for car applications, and iron for most truck applications (notable exceptions include the Chevrolet TrailBlazer). The engine also introduced coil-on-plug ignition. Folks who want to start or expand a business can’t get a loan even though many of them have exemplary credit. Credit card companies are reducing their customers’ available credit lines, further diminishing their ability to make purchases, sometimes even the necessities. Businesses large and small are feeling the pain. Debi Monti, owner of Just Stuff on Wenham Road in Carver, said she’s really been feeling the pinch. Her shop offers antiques and replicas, as well as some new items. And though customers still visit the shop, she said, most of them are just “tire kickers.” “I’ve had a lot of people comment on how good my prices are, but a lot of them are not ready to part with their money,” Monti said. She said she understands that philosophy all too well. Monti recently stocked up on wood pellets, enough to keep her warm all winter. “I refuse to use oil,” she said. “I didn’t use any last year, and I’m not going to this year.” In addition to that savings on oil, she’s also kept toasty warm by this efficient heat source. “It’s great,” she said. “I have a ranch. -NHTSA 09/12/2008- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is urging owners of certain Ford, Lincoln and Mercury SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, and passenger cars to take their vehicles to a local dealership for a corrective repair. The vehicles contain a defective cruise control switch that could lead to a fire at any time, even while the vehicle is turned-off, parked and unattended. Repair parts are immediately available. NHTSA remains concerned that many owners have yet to respond to multiple safety defect recall notifications from Ford.
