South Florida girls appear poised to do something special in another United States Golf Association event. Six years after Boca Raton's Morgan Pressel became the youngest player to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open at 12, Coral Springs' Alexis Thompson broke the mark last year. Pressel went on to win the U.S. Women's Amateur at 17. Four South Florida girls are in the early hunt to win the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship after they all won their first-round matches Wednesday at Hartford (Conn.) Golf Club. Thompson could meet a Pressel/Duncan survivor in the semifinals. The winner of that semifinal could meet Pembroke Pines' Kyle Roig in the finals. It's possible. Again, it's a testament to the talent down here. Over in the U.S. Junior at Shoal Creek in Alabama, Cooper City's T.J. Vogel won his first-round match in his bid to take home the title. Vogel's hot this summer. He has soared from No. 66 to No. 9 in the Polo national junior rankings in the past five weeks. ... Source: www.moreover.com --- 2 hours ago
