Former Flight Attendant Ellen Simonetti has optioned the rights to her book, based on her controversial career-ending blog, to Toronto-based Hiltz Squared Media Group. Hiltz Squared has commissioned Simonetti to adapt the book into a screenplay. In turn, Simonetti has started a blog, http://queenofscreen.com [queenofscreen.com __title__ queenofscreen.com], to chronicle the creation of the screenplay, a comedy written for Katherine Heigl and Queen Latifah, among others, and tentatively titled The Queen of Sky Blog. The National Mediation Board says that Delta Air Lines didn't interfere with the Association of Flight Attendants' campaign to unionize Delta's Flight attendants. Or more particularly, the NMB said the AFA didn't establish its case that Delta unlawfully interfered. The ruling was sent to the parties on Tuesday. Delta responded Wednesday, via senior vice president of in-Flight service Joanne Smith: Delta has always believed that the AFA's allegations of interference were unfounded. Armed with the facts and the understanding that this decision had a significant impact on their careers, our Flight attendants spoke decisively about their preference for maintaining Delta's unique culture. We are pleased that the NMB has upheld our Flight attendants' decision. It's time now to turn our attention to the exciting opportunity ahead of us - creating a premier global airline that will allow our people to share in the airline's success and provide a legendary travel experience for our customers. On Thursday, the AFL-CIO responded, via Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department: It is a dark day when our government walks away from its duty to protect working people from illegal corporate conduct. That is exactly what happened on the evening of September 30 when Bush appointees to the National Mediation Board (NMB) blessed Delta Air Line's deliberate campaign - in violation of U.S. labor law - to block unionization by its fli ...

The first thing we thought when we read this article was, at least something is still free on an airplane! Unfortunately, in this case the passenger claims it was unrequested and wouldn't stop , and the Flight Attendant, who no longer works for JetBlue, has been arrested "on charges of 'obscene and indecent exposure' and 'for making sexual advances.'" He has yet to enter a plea. For the record, the guy in the photo is not the man in the story. "Passenger: JetBlue Attendant Sexually Harassed Me" [WCBSTV.com] (Thanks to Jim!) Filed under: Airlines , News , Consumer Activism Here's a sordid, wacky tale, and one that's hard to believe, except that the person who is accused of gross behavior has admitted to part of the accusation. Here is the scoop from what I read in this CBStv.com story . A male JetBlue Flight Attendant has been accused by a female passenger of sexual harassment. She said: he said he would make sure no one sat next to her so she could be all his. he said that he wanted her. he said that she wanted him. he kept grabbing himself. he tossed his open cell phone on her tray to show her naked pictures of himself . he made vulgar comments to her through the bathroom door when she fled there to escape his advances. he grabbed her derriere when she was heading back to her seat. He said that: he DID show her naked pictures of himself on his cell phone to her he DID MAKE sexual advances He said he DID NOT grab her butt. act in a harassing manner. As a result of the woman coming forward with her accusations, the Flight Attendant was arrested for "obscene and indecent exposure" and for making "lewd, obscene and indecent sexual proposal." JetBlue is still involved in the investigation of the he said/she said situation. Even though the incident happened seven months ago, the woman said she was too scared to say something to any officials at the time of the incident. In retrospect, she admits saying something at the time of the incident would have bee ...

Filed under: Galley Gossip I've learned some pretty amazing things from Flight attendants, like how to mask the horrible lavatory smell with a single packet of coffee and how to make coffee taste better by using a drop of club soda and an extra coffee bag in the pot. All of these amazing tips lead me to believe that Flight attendants are some of the most creative and knowledgeable people in the world. Seriously, you wouldn't believe some of the things I've learned in the galley. On my last trip from New York to Los Angeles, I was instructed on how to choose the perfect eggplant. According to Kim, one of my fellow coworkers, there are "girl" and "boy" eggplants. For real. Because the "boy" eggplants have the least amount of seeds inside, those are the ones you want when you're making eggplant parmigiana, or an eggplant casserole, which is what I'm going to attempt tonight, thanks to Kim and her Italian recipes. Each and every time I come into contact with a Flight Attendant, I learn something new and interesting and unusual. What I learn could be just about anything, really, but whatever it is, that one little nugget of information somehow manages to change my life in some way. Well it happened again. Today. Today's amazing Flight Attendant tip of the day comes from Frank, a Gadling reader who is also a Flight Attendant for an airline I do not know. He had commented on my post, The best thing about being a Flight Attendant - Travel ...

Filed under: Galley Gossip What would you do if you were a Flight Attendant and some young lad said to you, "I like the way you walk?" Personally, I would have kept on walking. If possible. Because you never know if there's going to be a 200 pound drink cart blocking your way. But hey, that's just me. One New Zealand Flight Attendant did not walk away when a passenger commented on the way she worked the aisle. Well maybe she did walk, I don't really know, but what I do know is she took it a step farther and complained about the rugby player from the South Canterbury team when he asked for her number on a Flight from Gisborne to Wellington. Again, I don't have all the details. The article was short. I'm not even sure exactly when the comment pertaining to the walk was made, but at some point the entire rugby team was offloaded and put on another Flight. I wonder if she, the Flight Attendant, liked the way they walked - off the airplane. On a side note, I can tell you that John, my friend and fellow coworker, would have been very disappointed to have seen that rugby team go. But that's another story. The rugby team coach, Ken Wills, claimed the incident was blown out of proportion. He told the Herald Newspaper, "One of the guys was trying to use a pick-up line and exchange text numbers. The boys had a lot of fun on a Flight on the way up and one got an air hostess's number so they were all trying to match him." Every year there's a ...

The life of a Flight Attendant was once very glamorous. The stewards and, more frequently, stewardesses who worked for airlines like Pan Am, American, and Eastern in the 1960's and 1970's were seen as globetrotting style icons, with enviable job perks like layovers in exotic locales, interaction with rich and influential people, and free travel for themselves and their families. According to Michelle Higgins of the New York Times , however, those halcyon times of fun in the sky are long over, replaced by days-long assignments that have Flight attendants working crowded flights with an increasingly irritable - and irritating - clientele. ...

Filed under: Airlines , Galley Gossip "Hello. How are you? Welcome aboard," I say, and I say this as I'm standing between first class and coach while passengers board the airplane and slowly make their way down the aisle. That's when I spot you standing at your row with your bag sitting on an aisle seat as you stare up at the overhead bin, a full overhead bin, and shake your head. "Hello. How are you? Welcome aboard," I say, as you continue staring into the full overhead bin above your seat, and as you stare, still shaking your head, I already know what you're going to say before you even say it, and while I wait for you to say it, I continue to greet the passengers during the boarding process. "Hello. How are you? Welcome aboard." Though I can't make out the words, I see you're talking to those seated around you, pointing aggressively at your seat, at the overhead bin, back at your seat again, and as you begin to make a scene, a very loud one, you turn and look at me. "Hello. How are you? Welcome aboard," I say, and as I say this, I'm thinking to myself, here we go, and I'm wondering, as I've wondered thousands of times before, why you can't just turn around and put the bag inside the empty overhead bin behind you, the one located three rows back. You see it. I see it. We all see it. So why don't you use it? You can use it, ya know. Waving your hands in the air at me, you say, "Excuse me, Miss! Can you help me!" Of course. I slide ...

Filed under: Airlines A Flight Attendant for the Australian carrier Jetstar is facing some hefty discipline for being caught sitting in the captain's seat during a recent Flight. A bunch of photos of the FA, sitting up front and smiling away, were leaked to an Australian news site. No one knows who took the photos. But the person who leaked them said the FA's presence in the pilot's seat created several risks for the Flight. Now, before everyone rushes off to blame some crazy FA or Jetstar itself for needlessly putting passengers at risk, another pilot tells me that this happens all the time. The FA really isn't impersonating a pilot. For pilots to use the restroom, a FA has to sit in the cockpit before the second pilot is allowed to leave, in order to keep the cockpit's vault-like door closed. Most pilots will tell you that they do not like it when the FA chooses to sit in the captain's seat (they can usually choose the jump seat), and most airlines have a policy that they cannot sit in the captain's seat. But sometimes they jump into the seat before anyone can object. Is this a big deal? A lot of pilots will tell you: no. In fact, I'm told you can ask any FA and they'll tell you they have ridden in the Big Dog's seat before. I wonder if our own FA extraordinaire Heather ever has....   Permalink  |  Email this  |  Linking Blogs  |  Comments ...
