Political campaigns deluge us with so many requests to run their long pieces on our pages that we've been turning them all down this close to the election – with the exceptions of those we pair with opposing viewpoints. We've got a policy of balance, especially this close to the vote, and space on our printed pages is scarce. Usually writers can make the same points just as effectively in letters to the editor. We've got plenty of real estate in this blog, though. So I'm running this piece by Lakewood City Councilman Pad Finnegan, who challenges our dim view of casino gambling. If you wanted to lower you gas bill, you wouldn’t drive to Oregon for lower pump prices. The point is that if you want to create a change, you have to take action that will accomplish your goal. At one point, one of the fellow competitors told Simpson that they had enough of Finnegan. "He said if Cortland didn’t calm down, they were going to wring his neck," Simpson said with a laugh. "Here’s this 17-year-old driving all these 30-year-olds crazy in a pickup game. The Holy Cross women's lacrosse program has named senior Kaitlyn Curley, senior Samantha Hallowell and junior MaryKate Finnegan as 2009 team captains. All three players have had the experience of winning a Patriot League title as Curley and Hallowell were a part of the 2006 and 2007 championships and Finnegan was a member of the 2007 team. A midfielder, Curley has played in 35 career games, including in all 16 contests last year. In the third quarter of the Titans 13-10 win over the Ravens, two personal fouls were called against Cortland Finnegan. The second drew the attention of Keith Bulluck who, as a captain of the defense, tried to calm down Finnegan leading to a heated exchange and a shove of Finnegan with both hands.
