We all k now that the Final Fantasy Xiii ( PS3 , 360 ) demo will be packaged with the Advent Children: Complete Blu-ray release come March next year. What we did not hear then at Square Enix ' DKS3173 event was that it may be sold separately after the Complete's release. That's the buzz we're getting now from Final Fantasy-Xiii.Net, armed with Dengeki 's interview with Nomura. It's kind of preposterous to hear of a demo being sold separately, but the demo is said to be 90 minutes long, after all. The sheer size of it makes it impossible for the PlayStation Network to host it. Still, will people bite the bait and buy? Anyway, nothing else is completely Final at this point regarding the matter, although there are a few more details on the compilation: All of the Final Fantasy Xiii titles are based around extremely fast combat. Final Fantasy Agito Xiii will have both command input and action elements in it's gameplay. Each character will have their own individual summon. Agito is currently running on PSP hardware but won't be released until after Final Fantasy Xiii and Versus because of the lengthy story and large amount of characters. Very juicy, indeed, eh? So what does the house that Final Fantasy built have hiding behind the curtain this time? It's mostly a long line of Kingdom Hearts titles and the entire known components of the Fabula Nova Crystallis project - which of course includes the highly anticipated Final Fantasy Xiii . Considering that FFXIII is the flagship title for the company, it would be an understatement to say we're a tad excited to see anything new coming from this game at the show ... even if it is the usual scrap here and there. Speaking of scraps, yes, most of the "new" trailer contains footage from previous clips we've seen before (no surprise there); however, the new footage we did see - we believe - will certainly keep the FF faithful interested until the next small bits trickle in. We'll start with the beginning: we have an overhead view of this lush, prehistoric land where giant stegosaurus-type creatures roam. Then those flying beasts seen at the beginning of this year's E3 trailer soar above them, moving us along to the zoomed-in scene where the redhead pigtails girl is standing at the edge of a cliff. The camera swings back around revealing a massive, untamed landscape with thick jungles and more wild animals. Final Fantasy game movie trailers are less game trailers and more movie trailers. So, the new Final Fantasy Versus Xiii trailer wouldn't seem that different. It is! According to the game's director, Tetsuya Nomura, the trailer features at least one scene rendered in the PS3 in real time. The scene is where main hero Noctis meets blonde-haired heroine Stella. If that wasn't enough (it never is), the main character uses a shortened nickname of his moniker which means "of the night". Says Nomura: His name is Noctis, but in game, he's typically called 'Noct.' In the scene in the promo trailer, Stella calls him by his full name. Well, dur. You can't just start off calling him "Noct." Gotta work up to that. Filed under: Features , Sony PlayStation 3 , RPGs , TGS This year's Final Fantasy Versus Xiii trailer out of Square Enix's Closed Theater follows in the footsteps of last year's trailer in the respect that it's yet again the Final video shown during the private screening. The two differ, however, as this year's trailer shows off a bit of in-game footage of Versus Xiii for the first time. The trailer kicks things off with the same line of text we've seen dozens of times before: "This is a Fantasy based on reality." The scene moves to the prince's luxury sedan speeding through a tunnel. He's listening to the news on the car radio. The vehicle exits the tunnel and the camera pans up to see the moonlit sky with two giant airships hovering in the distance. Somewhere in between this, we get a reintroduction to the Shakespearean quote that's been used since the debut trailer. At this point, things shift and the new stuff come in. We see the prince character wearing a casual, all black suit. This is rendered with the in-game engine, and the graphics look as smooth and appealing as the main FFXIII title. He climbs marble stairs up to a loft-like art gallery. There he meets the blonde woman revealed previously wearing a black dress and a small white top. This time she's seen in a white cocktail dress. the two are talking but through Japanese subtitles as there doesn't appear to be any voice work done yet - or, Square Enix purposely took it ...
Square Enix announced it would be bringing Final Fantasy Xiii Agito to the PSP in August, sparing fans of the series much mobile platform kvetching. And while Square Enix character designer Tetsuya Nomura says that the title is currently running on PSP hardware and spitting out new screen shots , don't expect it any time soon. He tells Dengeki, by way of Final Fantasy-Xiii.net, that Agito won't see the light of a UMD drive until after both Final Fantasy Xiii and Final Fantasy Versus Xiii publish. Yes, that's from the same source as the Squenix might charge for the standalone FFXIII demo business, so have some Mrs. Dash on hand to stave off hypertension. Suppose it all makes sense, from a publishing standpoint, but that doesn't make epic wait feel any less daunting. At least we'll all have jet packs and snazzy silver jump suits by then... ...
