The 2008 Milwaukee International Film Festival that was not, this week announced a plan to refund all ticket sales and membership purchases within the next two weeks . An e-mail sent to festival supporters from the "MIFF Board" invites anyone claiming a refund to e-mail Administration@Milwaukeefilmfest.org . Include your full name, payment amount and mailing address. The message blamed the cancellation of the festival on the newly formed Milwaukee Film group for "appropriating the goodwill" of the festival "with the support" of the festival's former employees. "We were unaware that they had planned to take such a drastic action but it has become clear to us that there is no chance that an international Film festival will take place in 2008." One of the major sponsors of MIFF Chris Abele, chairman and CEO of the Argosy Foundation, withdrew financial support for MIFF , and created Milwaukee Film, which will promises to hold a festival in 2009. The new festival has hired key former Milwaukee International Film Festival employees for the same jobs they held with the original festival: Jonathan Jackson, artistic director; Kyle Heller, operations director; and T.J. Fackelman, program coordinator. Milwaukee Film will sponsor a short films showcase - of which, full disclosure I was a judge - Oct. 23, at the Oriental Theater, 2230 N. Farwell Ave. And on Nov. 6 the group will present the local premiere of " Song Sung Blue," also at the ... Source: www.empireonline.com --- 15 days ago
