Related Articles Extension and density of root Fillings and postoperative apical radiolucencies in the Veterans Affairs Dental Longitudinal Study. J Endod. 2008 Jul;34(7):798-803 Authors: Zhong Y, Chasen J, Yamanaka R, Garcia R, Kaye EK, Kaufman JS, Cai J, Wilcosky T, Trope M, Caplan DJ We evaluated the association between radiographically assessed extension and density of root canal Fillings and postoperative apical radiolucencies (ARs) by using data from 288 participants in the Veterans Affairs Dental Longitudinal Study. Study subjects were not Veterans Affairs patients; all received their medical and dental care in the private sector. Generalized estimating equations were used to account for multiple teeth within subjects and to control for covariates of interest. Defective root filling density was associated with increased odds of postoperative AR among teeth with no preoperative AR (odds ratio, 3.0; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.3-7.1), although preoperative AR was the strongest risk factor for postoperative AR (odds ratio, 29.2; 95% CI, 13.6-63.0 among teeth with ideal density). Compared with well-extended root Fillings, neither overextended nor underextended root Fillings separately were related to postoperative AR, but when those 2 categories were collapsed into one poorly extended category, poor extension was related to postoperative AR (odds ratio, 1.8; 95% CI, 1.1-3.2). I don't know their exact names, that is why I quoted them...but I'm sure its pretty standard materials. This boggles my mind, I needed to get a few Fillings done today and upgraded my bottom teeth to the white filling. Why the hell would what seemed to me...a molded plastic cost the MORE than a metal? Granted I deserved the bill, having not been to the dentist in ~8 years. But seriously, the method was 10x quicker for the white Fillings...place, mold, zap...seriously must just mark that crap up because everyone wants it. Don't even lie, that material has to be dirt cheap. No wonder the dentist can afford to bring his staff on a vacation one week a year and only work four days a week. /rant. But he is good. -- The History Channel rocks! ... you know it! ...

(NaturalNews) Mercury is the most toxic, non-radioactive element on the earth. Most medical and scientific researchers have called for a ban on the use of mercury in all products. However, the potential harmful effects of mercury Fillings have been ignored by the U.S. government. Due to its poisonous nature, mercury can adversely affect the immune, urinary, cardiac, respiratory and digestive systems. Under laboratory conditions, mercury has produced brain cell deterioration identical to that seen in victims of Alzheimer's disease. Many people do not realize the "silver" amalgam Fillings are 50% mercury. A large filling may contain as much mercury as a thermometer. Mercury vaporizes easily at room temperature, and in this state, is odorless, colorless and tasteless. Inhaled mercury vapor is readily absorbed into the bloodstream. The World Health Organization has concluded that dental Fillings contribute more mercury to a person's body than all other sources of mercury combined. Mercury is a powerful poison. Published research demonstrates that mercury is more toxic than lead, cadmium or arsenic. No amount of exposure to mercury vapor can be considered harmless. Especially considering its cumulative effect. For more information on the ways the amalgam Fillings leak mercury into the body and the problems caused by mercury in the body see: "The Smoking Teeth Video" (http://www.iaomt.org/videos/) .
