The movie was directed by David Schwimmer, and apart from the script there were certainly times when his inexperience as a director was evident.After leaving his pregnant fiancée at the alter five years earlier, Dennis (Simon Pegg) decides to turn his life around and quit running from his troubles. This general theme makes “Run Fatboy Run” into a bit too much of a moral lesson of perseverance than a comedy. And for someone as cynical as myself, his token determination was sickening. That, coupled with the fact that the parts intended to be comedic were not anyway and you have a sub-par film. The plot “develops” when Dennis picks up his son for the afternoon and discovers that his ex-fiancée has a new boyfriend. Of course, the new man in her life (Whit, played by Hank Azaria) is a seemingly perfect man with a successful career as a hedge fund manager. Also, Whit plans to run in a charity marathon soon after he and Dennis meet which inspires Dennis to join him to prove he is a new man. The movie was directed by David Schwimmer, and apart from the script there were certainly times when his inexperience as a director was evident. The acting itself was decent - with Azaria, Thandie Newton, and Dylan Moran supporting Pegg’s performance. Overall, I would definitely pass on a second viewing of “Run Fatboy Run.” If you are still interested in this film though, simply watch the trailer and you’ll be all set. Well, it is on the Internet. But barely. I'm talking about Fat Boy Lager by Legacy Brewing Co. I picked up a case of it last night from my favorite local beer store . Here's Fat Boy on the The Grey Lodge Pub taplist . Here are the Beer Advocate reviews . Only 4 so far. (BTW. Matty doesn't know what he's talking about...) You can find it on a few other taplists online, and on the Websites of a few beer distributors like Origlio and The Beer Yard . But it's not on Legacy's site yet, which has me wondering... What's the deal? I emailed Legacy with some questions. I'll share their answers with you. In the meantime, if you're in the mood for something Oktoberfesty, consider some Fat Boy Lager. It's an amber lager brewed with German hops. It starts off crisp, then gets malty, with that toasty, creamy character you get from a good Dunkel or marzen. The finish is very dry. Fat Boy is a solid lager, and I hope Legacy plans to keep producing it. But the beer's absence from the Legacy Website, it's name and chrome-colored logo and the incongruous "R" bottlecaps -- (Reading Premium leftovers?) make me think this might be some kind of one-off product -- brewed for a Harley Davidson rally perhaps. ...

Do the names “Fat Man” and “Little Boy” ring a bell? They are the code names of the two atomic bombs that Harry Truman dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan to end WWII. They were loaded onto B-29’s on the small pacific island if Tinian, a few miles south of Saipan. My grandfather once told me that one of his most vivid memories from the war was sitting in the officer’s club on Kagman Point on the southeast corner of Saipan and watching the planes take off from Tinian. Occasionally, Granddaddy said, one of the planes wouldn’t build up enough speed on take-off and plummet into the water. Fortunately this never occurred to him - a B-29 navigator - or it’s highly likely that I wouldn’t be writing this right now. Tinian was actually the busiest airport in the world in the mid-1940’s. It has a large grid of runways on the north end, most of which were built by the US to allow the allied forces to stage aerial attacks on Japan. LeeAnn and I took an hour-long boat ride to the island last weekend to explore the sights and get a taste of modern history. Tinian is a sleepy island. Only a couple thousand people live there. It’s mostly farmland, has two gas stations, a schoolhouse, and a gaudy hotel/casino called the Tinian Dynasty. Like almost every other resort in the Marianas, it caters to wealthy Asian tourists, and has more marbled floors and fake Greek statutes than should ever be allowed under one roof.
