Anyone interested in doing it again this year? Most people were fairly active last year and I'd like to defend my crown (although hopefully on Week 16 this season). TNS, do you want to get this going if there's interest? Otherwise I can. ... Source: ca.prweb.com --- 1 hour ago

Fantasy veterans know the secret to great drafting is not simply selecting the best players available, but taking them no earlier than necessary. You may share my belief that Ted Ginn is poised to have a breakout Fantasy year. But you're hurting yourself -- and, worse yet, begging for ridicule from your opponents -- if you take him too early. ... Source: www.post-gazette.com --- 1 day ago

While piling sandbags in front of the door to keep Fay at bay, I felt a need to grab any and all Tampa Bay Bucs fans by the shirt and throw some tropical storm water in your faces. What you think you saw Sunday night during the 27-10 Bucs victory over "the New England Patriots" was more illusion than the real thing. Those concerned with the reality of the NFL should not be planning on the Bucs hosting the next Super Bowl, while those having their Fantasy Football drafts this week should certainly not plan on building a team around Buc players -- unless how much you lose doesn't matter. The reality of that exhibition game is that (1) it was AN EXHIBITION GAME and (2) the "Patriots" didn't even dress 21 players, including QB Tom Brady. IOW, nothing but a glorified scrimmage -- and the announced crowd of 63,365 should have demanded at least 21 percent of its money back. As for Fantasy, let's take a quick look at key Bucs -- if we can find any: QUARTERBACK -- Jeff Garcia is an OK deep backup. Right now I have him ranked No. 22 -- right behind Brett Favre and right before Tarvaris Jackson. RUNNING BACK -- Earnest Graham is a decent No. 2 for your team and the best Fantasy value on the Bucs. I have him as the No. 18 RB, right behind Laurence Maroney and right above the overlooked Michael Turner. Warrick Dunn is a No. 4 and, despite what you saw Sunday, Michael Turner is simply someone to keep an eye on when the season starts as a "roster wir ... Source: www.bodognation.com --- 15 hours ago

If your Fantasy Football draft is this week, you've got more to worry about than a storm called Fay. What about the increasing thunder clouds on the Peyton Manning horizon? (And just how injured is Tom Brady, but more on that in a moment.) If you missed it, Peter King of Sports Illustrated is making a "partial prediction" that Manning could miss the Indianapolis Colts' opening game against Chicago. By partial, King said it was a 30-35 percent probability. Make of that what you will but here's a fact -- When Manning had his bursa sac surgery, we were told he'd be out 4 to 6 weeks. Well, this is Week 5 and Peyton hasn't practiced yet. And as Ron Woodson of NFL Network points out, the Colts are not saying anything and are keeping Manning out of sight. Manning has started 174 consecutive games and, obviously for a thousand reasons, will want to start the opener. But if you are the Colts, you will be talking "marathon and not a sprint." That means you might err on the side of caution -- especially if you think you can beat the Bears at home without him. Remember, we know the Bears won't have a quarterback. In any case, Manning -- on average -- is being drafted No. 11 overall and, of course, No. 2 QB behind Brady. If you are picking this week, I certainly would advise you to refrain from taking Peyton in the first round -- and would not criticize you at all if you refrained from picking him at all. Brady? It sounds like he's having fun with ... Source: blogs.orlandosentinel.com --- 17 hours ago
An Indianapolis TV station reported that Peyton Manning was seen at his charity bowling event -- wearing a knee brace! Not good at all if you were planning on spending a first- or even second-round pick on the beloved FF quarterback. Ah, but Manning denied it by using the old "tight pants" defense that you've probably used a thousand times. Manning: "Anybody that knows me, I wear tight jeans. There's no way a knee brace could fit under my blue jeans anyway." Isn't there an old joke that ends: "Is that a knee brace or are you...." Never mind. Other negative reports for those having there Fantasy drafts this week: ---- RB STEVEN JACKSON, St. Louis -- Come on, he's still not in the Rams' camp because of a contract dispute. I'd say a good rule of thumb is to drop him one notch in your RB rankings for every day he continues to be out. I had already lowered him from RB No. 4 to No. 7, so he's down to No. 8 today. (And consider backup Brian Leonard as a deep sleeper -- and certainly a good handcuff for Jackson.) ---- RB AHMAN GREEN, Houston -- What a shocker, Ahman is hurt. Unfortunately, he's often hurt. That could well mean RBBC. Consider Chris Brown and/or Steve Slaton as decent No. 3 or No. 4 RBs on your roster and forget Green. He's not worth any risk. If you are in a league that demands using a rookie, Slaton becomes a decent consideration. ---- QB MATT HASSELBECK, Seattle -- Uh oh, you don't want your QB leaving practice because his ba ...

It's an election year, and while we're all being inundated with political commercials from both sides of the aisle, we should be looking at a different kind of candidate a€" the Fantasy Football breakout candidate. What makes a good breakout candidate? In short, the player must have two things: increased opportunity and developing talent. Typically, breakout players are young. The simple fact is that the older a player is, the less likely he is to break out. Last season, at 27, Earnest Graham racked up 1,222 yards and 10 TD after Carnell Williams went down with a season-ending injury. It was Graham's fourth season, and in his previous three, he had carried the ball a total of 52 times. Justin Fargas (also 27) took over the starting spot in Oakland and finished with 1,197 yards and four TD. In his second season, LenDale White posted 1,224 yards and scored seven times for the Titans. In the realm of wideouts, Roddy White had a prototypical breakout season in his third year, going from 30-506-0 the previous season to 83-1202-6 last year. Braylon Edwards had a solid second season (61-884-6), but few predicted the numbers he would post in his third season (80-1289-16). Greg Jennings broke out in his sophomore season (53-920-12), which wasn't a huge surprise since he had such a solid rookie campaign (45-632-3). Brandon Marshall also made a big jump in his second season (102-1325-7) after Javon Walker missed half the season with a knee ... Source: www.bleacherreport.com --- 19 hours ago
Fantasy Football seems easy. Buy a book, look at some cheat sheets, and draft according to the lists. Simple, right? Following the cheat sheets like that forgets one key about Fantasy Football: upside rules all in the late rounds. When the choice is between a run-of-the-mill veteran receiver and a young receiver getting good reviews in training camp, always go for the upside. After all, Fred Taylor isn’t winning your Fantasy Football league. Chris Perry might. But once those first few rounds are over, whom should you target? Who are the high-upside sleeper picks that will make your team able to withstand your early-round busts? Who can help you withstand injuries or provide trade bait to get the player to put your team over the top? Here are 14 players with the potential to provide huge returns on when they are chosen. Mid-late round sleepers (picks 75-125) WR Nate Burleson - Seattle Seahawks Burleson put up almost 700 yards and nine touchdowns last year. With Bobby Engram and Deion Branch both probably out for at least the first two weeks of the season, Burleson is Matt Hasselbeck's No. 1 receiver, and he will have the first chance to take the role that Darrell Jackson had for so many years and that Engram had last year. He's clearly the No. 1, and in an offense that is sure to pass the ball a lot, he could put up big numbers early against Buffalo, San Francisco, and St. Louis. RB Chester Taylor - Minnesota Vikings Taylor is a gr ... Source: www.grandhaventribune.com --- 18 hours ago

Eric’s post from yesterday has me thinking about wide receivers. He drafted a team that is weak on WRs in a league that starts 3 WRs and he’s wondering if he’s doomed before the season has started. My answer: no freaking way. It’s far easier to find wide receivers late in the draft – or on the waiver wire -- than it is to find running backs. In fact, it’s a lot easier than people realize. I usually go weak on WRs because I know it’s possible to grab them later. I reviewed last season’s Top 20 wide receivers in Receiving Yards and checked to see where they were drafted. I didn’t have average draft position info from last year, so I used the draft results of last year’s SBNation Bloggers Fantasy Football League. That’s as close to a group of Football experts as you’ll find anywhere. Also, I realize that receiving yards isn’t the perfect way to rank Fantasy WRs, but it’s easy to work with. Out of the Top 20 WRs, nine of them (45%) were drafted in Round 7 or later. In fact, three of them weren’t drafted at all. Player Rec Yards Round Drafted Brandon Marshall 1325 9 Braylon Edwards 1289 7 Roddy White 1202 Undrafted Wes Welker 1175 12 Bobby Engram 1147 Undrafted Jerricho Cotchery 1130 8 Kevin Curtis 1110 11 Derrick Mason 1087 Undrafted Joey Galloway 1014 9 Notice that I said it’s possible to grab them later, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to do it.
