After reportedly attempting to swing onto a nearby tree branch from a second-floor Brighton balcony, and then falling 20 feet last Friday, a 23-year-old Boston College student is listed in Fair Condition at Best Israel Hospital, sustaining serious injuries to his head and face. The student had reportedly dangled from the apartment balcony at 2017 Commonwealth Ave. 40 minutes earlier by grasping a tree branch within reach, then landing on his feet. Witnesses said they observed him fail to grab hold of the branch the second time, forcing him to crash into the sidewalk. “It appears to be a tragic accident. We encourage college students to make safe decisions,” said Elaine Driscoll, director of Media Relations at the Allston-Brighton Police Department. The 20-year-old who was stabbed in the stomach Thursday night had his Condition was upgraded to Fair today. Ryan Nicolosi is being treated at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center after paramedics found him after 9:45 p.m., bleeding but conscious in a lower-lever room at the Travelodge Colonial Inn, 4850 E. State St. Nicolosi was rushed into surgery before police could talk to him, said Deputy Chief Theo Glover. It’s unknown what events took place leading up to the stabbing, and it was unknown whether Nicolosi was a registered guest at the inn or was visiting someone else. The incident is being called an aggravated battery, but Glover said detectives are not sure whether the attack was part of a robbery attempt, a domestic situation or some other incident. A check of Winnebago County Court records shows Nicolosi has a history of arrests for possession of drugs and domestic battery. “We’re still talking to potential witnesses,” Glover said Friday. “From that, we’ll try to determine what happened.” No arrests have been made.
