Fable 2 for Xbox 360 looked so darn good that and I saw so much awesomeness in it that I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked with it at PAX and searched out new unknown games. I don't really know how to accurately explain it but from the time that I did spend watching it, playing it and talking to a dude from Lionhead I sort of mentally checked off a list of things in a game that I wanted in it and I achieved a sense of confidence that what I saw was good and that it was going to be worth my time, money and attention when the game is out this fall. I sort of get the same feeling from Street Fighter IV and Gears of War 2. It is sort of an internal dialog that says "Oh! Of course that is going to be super sweet". ... Fable 2 has finally been granted a release date: October 21 here in America and October 24 in Europe. Fable fans who pre-order the game will also be granted access to the downloadable "pub games" which will see release on August 13. Far from just mini-games, these simple gambling titles will allow players to earn currency for use in Fable 2's main story mode months before its official retail appearance. Fans who opt not to pre-order can gain access to the pub games from the Xbox Live Marketplace for $10. As per usual with these high-profile releases, Fable 2 will also be released in a limited Collector's Edition for $80. The CE, which goes on sale at the same time as the standard edition, includes a making-of DVD, a collectible "Hobbe" figurine, a bonus in-game dungeon, weapon and mysterious "otherworldly bonus" and five Fate Cards that detail the Hero's exploits. Interestingly, the press release detailing all of this content specifically mentions that players must have an Xbox Live account to access the added Collector's Edition content. No word so far on how Fable fans who lack Live accounts are supposed to enjoy the added dungeon and weaponry. Packaged with the announcement were screenshots, including one conspicuously labeled "Fable2_MasterChief.jpg." Yep, that's not just a coincidence, you're looking at a faux-medieval variant of the Halo superstar. ( Halo 3 ending spoiler alert ) I guess we know what universe he crash-landed in. And here we thought Minstrel Chief was the only Halo reference we'd find.
