FORT LAUDERDALE City Clerk Jonda Joseph showed up at the Downtown Development Authority meeting this morning to urge everyone to read to the bottom of their ballots on Nov. 4. FORT LAUDERDALE city clerk Jonda Joseph Lurking at the bottom for FORT LAUDERDALE voters is a proposed charter amendment that on its face could be pretty meaningless to folks. It would mean a lot to Jonda Joseph, though. And to the city auditor, John Herbst. The proposed change in the city charter would allow the city clerk and city auditor to hire their own assistants, and would clarify that those staffs are not hired by the city manager. The clerk and auditor, like the city attorney, report to the City Commission. The rest of the city staff reports to the city manager. The change would not carry a cost, and would only "bring consistency to the four positions that are directly appointed by the City Commission,'' a city handout tells voters.
