AP - New York regulators have raised the possibility of banning Verizon Communications Inc. from installing its fiber-optic FIOS service in New York City until the company makes sure it's doing enough to provide electrical grounding for its equipment in homes. ...

I've had Verizon FIOS (internet only) for about a 2 years now. I had several of the problems with the various Actiontek routers they have provided and others have talked about in this forum. About 4 months ago, I went out and purchased an D-Link DIR-655 which has worked absolutely fine with minimal, (if any) problems. (Just the once in a blue moon reboot was necessary). Two days ago, I couldn't get online at all. I checked out the router which indicated that a WAN cable was unplugged. Looking at the system log in the router, I noticed that every second it was connected, then it wasn't. I turned off the router, unpluged the cable (ethernet, no coax) that comes from Verizon's line into my home, plugged in again, started up and I'm having the same problem. I also noticed that the router's time usually was about 3-4 hours behind the time on my PC's clock. In the past, I noticed that simply changing the clock to the correct time resolved some connectivity problems (probably to do with the lease expiration). Sometimes it works, but lately, most of the time, it's not "holding" the connection. I'm at a loss. Verizon's tech support is useless and basically told me that they won't be able to offer support because I'm not using their (horrible) Actiontek router. Meanwhile I think they problem is on their end. Any help is appreciated. By the way, I'm in Staten Island, NY. and was wondering if anyone else in the area has had any similar problems i ...

FIOS was buried in my neighborhood back in the Spring. We now can subscribe to both Internet and Phone service, but the cable service isn't available yet. I have been told by some technicians (driving in neighborhood) that the Catonsville MD (Baltimore County) central office serving my Howard County neighborhood has cable equipment, but at the moment they're focused on delivering video service to Baltimore County not Howard. I think someone has said that the equipment required to serve Howard County may be different than the equipment used to serve Baltimore. This doesn't make sense to me. Has anyone had this over the county line problem? Is there a way to try to get Verizon to go ahead and finish our service? Is there a way to find out when they plan on finishing our service? I've called but not been able to get past the sales agents. ...

Does anyone in NJ know if Verizon is doing FIOS installs when the utilities are buried? I'm in central NJ and have only seen them with aerial installs (off the poles). This is in Middlesex and Piscataway. I live in condo/townhome community and is taking forever to get an agreement signed with Verizon. There has been fiber in my neighborhood for over 2 years. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15437389 ...

I got FIOS a while back. No problem getting online or watching TV, everything there is great. But I am having issues when playing online games with my PS3 and also with streaming video to my PS3. Online I get pixelation issues, and while streaming, all the video comes across but I get flashing pixel lines that show up on the screen seeming to coincide with the signal. Not sure what to do. I'm using the Verizon provided Aciontec router, and have that wired with ethernet to the PS3. Also have tried using wireless with the PS3 and have had the same issues. Any help is much appreciated. ...

My experience with FIOS has been great until they disconnected my account for nonpayment. The credit card I was using expired and they disconnected without a warning. I made payment over a week ago, and they still have not connected me back up despite over 12 hours to customer service and multiple promises to do this. Are there any tricks users here can offer on how to resolve this problem. Now they wont even entertain fixing it over the weekend. I was going to add FIOS tv and phone, but am reluctant due to this horrible experience with customer service. I need their internet service, but don't want to increase the chances of requiring their customer service as it is the single worst support I have ever experienced with any product I have used in my life. Thoughts? ...

Hello, I was just wondering if the "Verizon FIOS Activation" program is something that I need or can I remove it? I wasn't home last week when it was installed, otherwise I would have asked the installer. Also, if it wouldn't be too much to ask....could someone lead me into the direction of some FIOS performance tweaks. Similar to the ones used for tweaking DSL to get the most out of it(god sent). Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time for your response. ...

Is anybody aware of the Verizon Strategy for deciding which areas will have FIOS made available and when? Is it a matter of Poles being available? Is it the availability of the Buried Service Wire group? Rather than motherhood statements which Verizon use such as "Marketing Decisions" surely Verizon must have a plan which consumers can view and establish when FIOS will be available in their neighborhood. I live in Toms River,Central NJ, where subscribers are up and running with FIOS. However, despite my phone service being with Verizon [and that there are no Poles on my development] I cannot find anybody within Verizon who can advise me when we are likely to have FIOS in our area. ...

I'll be moving into an "apartment style" condo in a few months and have a few questions. FIOS is available for the new complex and the entire complex is supposedly "wired for FIOS." I currently have FIOS in my single family home. Here are my questions: 1) Conceptually, how is FIOS provisioned to each individual condo within a building? Since this is new construction, is it likely that fiber is being run to each unit or more likely that fiber is run to each building and converted to coax at that point? 2) Is there a Master ONT for each condo building AND a separate ONT for each individual unit within the building? Looking at the FIOS panel that's in the model condo, there appears to be a BSU, a PSU and a third box which I assume is a Unit ONT (However, it's a lot smaller than the ONT I have on an outside wall of my current home-maybe 1/3rd the size). I'm a little confused on the likely FIOS setup and the sales personnel all seem to have limited knowledge of FIOS other than the fact that they can use it as a selling point. Thanks. ...

I noticed this posted on the ActionTec website. It looks totally different than the unit I have, so the only differentiator is Next Gen! From the website: The Wireless Broadband Router, a fiber optic router for Verizon FIOS digital homes, packs in more features and performance capabilities than any other fiber router on the market. It is the first device to feature a dual-core, 64-bit processor that allows it to support home networking speeds over to 100 Mbps and permits FIOS TV and other content to be distributed to multiple devices in the home over coaxial cable. The router supports MoCA, Ethernet and wireless networking. * Premier router used in Verizon FIOS homes * Superior routing and networking capabilities      o Industry's first dual-core 64-bit processor      o Able to support speeds well beyond 100 Mbps * Enterprise Level Security      o Customizable firewall      o Stateful Packet Inspection      o Denial of Service protection      o Content Filtering/Parental Controls      o Intrusion Detection      o WPA and WEP WiFi encryption * Hardware-enabled QoS (Quality of Service)      o 8 input and 8 output channels      o Frees up CPU for other bandwidth needs * TR-69+ Remote Management Has anyone seen these yet? Does it solve the limited NAT table issue? ...

I am looking to switch to Verizon FIOS, but I have a few problems. I see that this $94.99 deal with free activation for being a current DSL/Phone customer isn't so clean and cut. I have some questions about requirements. At first, a Verizon FIOS bundle rep told me that I would be required to rent out a STB for 6 bucks a month to get any service on any TV (including my HDTVs). I researched some more and found that verizon rented out 'DTA adapters" that would work fine, I just wouldn't get interactive features (which i don't care about anyway). Now my main question, can I just purchase these DTA adapters for my analog tvs and get service similar to what I get from my basic cable now - and also, if I plug my HDTV directly to the wall, will I get service fine (excluding these interactive features of course)? Will local channels have the HD option as they do with basic cable? And also - I have 6 coax hookups in my house - does Verizon really charge you $20 per hookup after the first 3? If so, why are they charging me for being willing enough to switch to them after all the hell I had with DSL and their standard phone ;P Are there any other hidden installation charges I should worry about in New Jersey (monmouth county)? THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HELP! ...

For about 2 weeks I had the newly added FIOS HD channels (i.e. FX HD East, Disney HD, WGN HD, Hallmark HD, Fox Business HD etc.), but as of a couple of days ago I've lost them and don't know why. They're listed in the guide as "to be announced", but when I try to tune them in I get a black screen and no joy.:( When I did have them working, there was no guide info and I just assumed it would eventually update. I've done a restart and forced connection but all to no avail. The only thing I haven't done is a guide setup. That is my last resort, but I don't think it will help. If it helps, I live in MA and the other HD channels work fine. Any ideas? ...

If I get Verizon FIOS is there a way I can still have that setup or does Verizon settop box (unscrambler) messed that up. ...
