So just got FiOS internet/tv hooked up today and I'm trying to figure out how to set up my house the right way. I've been reading through the FAQs and I'm not sure which one is appropriate. Here's my situation- I have the ONT inside the garage with CAT5e to the Actiontec. I have CAT5e/COAX run throughout the house terminated at the same spot as the ONT and Actiontec. The ONT/Actiontec location is a terrible spot for a WIFI router. I would like to have a wired CAT5e connection from the Actiontec to my WIFI router for our house WIFI. Fine, that's easy, I saw plenty of guides on how to do that. I would also like to have the CAT5e running throughout the house to have a Ethernet connection from the Actiontec router. So that way I can either plug a PC into the wall for internet or grab a connection over WIFI if it has an adapter. Essentially I have laptops that need the WIFI, TVs that need wired COAX/Data, and devices that need wired data (Home Theatre PC, XBox, Printer). My guess is I need the Actiontec to act as a router splitting the data between wired TVs, PCs, Xbox, Printers, and a WIFI hotspot. Thanks for your help in advance, phishie ... Hi, I want to run a wireless router to run a wireless laptop out in my shop that is about 100 feet from my house where my ONT is and my actiontec router. I have many trees and my building is metal sided so I get no signal from the Actionec router located in my house. I have tried directional antennas but I think the building being made of metal and all the trees is screwing things up. So my next solution would be to run cat5e out to the shop. Do I have to run the cat5e cable from the actiontec router or can I put a spitter right at the connection on the ONT and run one line out to the shop and the other into the house to the actiontec router. I figured out in the shop I would plug the cat5e cable into another dlink wireless router I already had. I also thought about adding a tv and could run a length of RG6 to run a verizon set top box for a tv while I am all ready doing the trenching and conduit. ANy help greatly appreciated. ... One reason I love Linux is that when there's a problem, it gets fixed. Usually, it gets fixed in a hurry and that's exactly what happened with the e1000e Ethernet bug. To bring you up to speed, a pre-release version of the 2.6.27 Linux kernel, which was being used in several beta Linux distributions, was sometimes frying the Ethernet firmware in systems equipped with the Intel ICH8 and ICH9 chipset and their 82566 and 82567 Ethernet chipsets. The major distributions to worry about were the Mandriva Linux 2009 pre-releases; Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 Beta 1 and openSUSE 11 Beta 1; Fedora 10 release candidates 1 and 2; Gentoo Linux; and Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex. OK, so most people were unlikely to ever see this bug, but, on the other hand, a lot of people play with beta Linux distributions. In particular, Fedora was very close to shipping so it's reasonable to assume that quite a few Linux users were putting it through its paces. ... Source: telephonyonline.com --- 3 days ago
