Filed under: News, WiiWare Hey, remember Eternity’s Child? Not that we ever hear anything about WiiWare games prior to their release, but we haven’t heard anything about the WiiWare release of Luc Bernard’s multiplatform platformer (multiplatformer?) since before its PC release in August. According to Bernard, publisher Alten8 is working on getting the game out before [...] ...

cyrus_zuo brings us the latest set of reviews for recent independently-produced games. A panel of reviewers takes a look at 10 games, including The Spirit Engine 2, an action RPG which receives high marks, the humorous Strong Bad game, and Eternity's Child, which has earned quite a big of negative press recently. "Despite what some may have said, EC certainly isn't the disaster it is made out to be, not by a long shot. However, it feels like it is brushing up against greatness only to have its wings burned and that makes the short-comings feel all the more painful." Read more of this story at Slashdot. ...

From the moment I first laid eyes on Eternity's Child I was expecting something special. An ambitious little title from artist Luc Bernard, the story concept captivated me just as much as the artwork. Flooded planet and mechanized animals aside, ...

…What guarantees a safe journey to eternity is effort, dignity, the sense of being unworthy before God, hope - the spiritual oxygen, consolation, and certainty. Not misery and compelled obedience and forced prayer; not tears and sadness - these all come from Satan. Yes, I ought to weep for my sins, but all the while hoping in God’s love. But I cannot stand it if I cry because the Devil wants me to despair. Many times Satan crushes a person with despair and the devil becomes the victor. But this does not happen when one is like a Child on his father’s arm - trusting. Our trust in God is a ceaseless prayer that brings positive results. Despair comes from the Devil. Don’t say, “Oh, what has happened to me?” But give yourself to God totally and hope in Him. from an Athonite Gerontikon ...

A portion from developer Joshua Pearce’s blog, on his experience coding for Eternity’s Child: The version we’re releasing to steam soon is the first chapter of EC. It’s over a dozen levels (we have 16 right now, we may trim some out, or add a couple more). It is going to be $5, and that price will include the next one or two chapters for free, when they’re ready. Why is it so cheap? Well, to gain attention, and because the whole team agrees that most games are overpriced. Basically, because we can. Chapter 1 doesn’t have all the features we intend to have in place for chapters 2 and 3. Continue Reading ...

Filed under: Biz , Action , Casual After receiving a perhaps overly harsh review of his Eternity's Child platformer, independent game designer Luc Bernard has proclaimed that he will n ever make another video game . Eternity's Child is an episodic series of hand-drawn fairy tales created for WiiWare and PC, the latter platform seeing distribution via Valve's Steam service. Though critics and consumers are complimentary toward Bernard's fantastic art style, statements concerning the allegedly horrible gameplay were made in the c omments thread of a Destructoid review , which prompted Bernard to angrily retort. " Eternity's Child was fun to work on," writes Bernard, but he also admits that it was simultaneously horrible due to not have sufficient funds to develop the game. Apparently fed up with the negativity, Bernard wrote that he plans to exit the industry "In a couple weeks ... with a big boom that no one is expecting, and it will even make haters shut up."   Read  |  Permalink  |  Email this  |  Linking Blogs  |  Comments ...

Kenya (MNN) -- Next, while CURE International just celebrated 10 years of ministry in Kenya, team members are doing what they can to raise awareness about their work. Doctor Elijah Muteti says they're doing more than helping disabled children. They're training orthopedic surgeons. "The reason is there are only about 60 orthopedic surgeons in the country of 35 million people. Now, if the 60 people were to spread out through the country, that gives us a very small number of people for the entire population. I think we have less than 10 people outside the Capital city. So I'm hoping that by training more people, then we'll have more impact." Nurse Nancy Nganga says it's not only about healing physically. "Our ministry is 50-50: 50-percent spiritual and 50-percent medical. We've been able to reach a number of people with the Gospel. In a given year, we are able to reach about 7,000 with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And about 3,000 have given their lives to Jesus Christ." Your support is needed. For as little $22, you can impact a Child for eternity. If you'd like more information, go to our Web site. ...

Pierre Cardin's space-age designs thrilled fashion runways this fall, but we're equally impressed with his bling-bling French villa. Designed by genius architect and designer Antti Lovag in the mid 70s, Cardin was walking around Cannes when he came upon the construction site of the architect he was about to employ to create a bubble house. More awesome images from the house, and a gallery of Lovag's best, after the jump. Before coming to the attention of Cardin ( above ), AnttiLovag was born to a Jewish father and a Finnish mother. He moved around a lot as a Child, including time spent in Turkey. Once working under French architect Jean Prouvé , his studies of naval architecture informed many of his later designs. After his health started to suffer, he began to look to architecture with a lighter eye: A heart attack inspired Lovag to reflect on life, and his new outlook of course influenced his architecture. "I discovered that I was mortal—meaning I discovered that I was free. I realized that building as if for eternity is an attack on time itself. Furthermore, it usually leads to an angular, aggressive organization of space. On the other hand, when one knows one's limits, all that is swept away." Lovag: I began to think about improvised buildings, cobbled together on-site and adapted to a particular person's desires or idea of a house," he explains. "Instead of construction based on prefabricated panels, I began experimenting wi ...
