Bad economic times are good times for the entertainment industry. Superheroes to the rescue! G IVEN that the economy is cratering, the lead in the presidential polls keeps seesawing and I'm trying to restrain myself from going online every 15 minutes to check the news, I thought now would be a good time to call a futurist to see what else could be coming down the pike. ...

With the economy in shambles, the Seahawks 0-2 and a vice presidential candidate who had her private e-mail account (but used for official business to avoid Freedom of Information Act requests and subpeonas) hacked by someone who just used the “forgot your password?” feature on Yahoo, this is as good of a week as any [...] ...

Television drama series are all a bit too real for me these days. There is too much shooting in The Wire, I simply don't understand The Sopranos and Law and Order gives me nightmares. I'm up to my ears in reality as it is, what with moving house, renovating a kitchen and my dreary twice-daily commute. That's not to mention my chronic heartburn. ...

ADOTAS — Now is about the time of year when we are all making sure we have those holiday campaigns lined up. You know the ones – the Halloween costumes, turkey fryers and stocking stuffers that some ad reps dread landing because they know they will only make a few quick bucks. However, this year may be the year for these types of offers though. With the economy in its current dismal state, many people are looking for any way to forget about tumultuous gas prices, the plummeting stock market and seemingly never ending foreclosures. Experts are already noting what they [...] ...

I finally saw Sex And The City: The Movie last night (it looks stunning on Blu Ray). I would love to get on a high horse and proclaim that it’s a terrific movie and that the critics who hated it were misogynist pigs. Some of them may be, but it’s still a mediocre movie. The first [...] ...

So…I finished the Twilight Series Monday. And now I’m going through withdrawals. I find that after reading such compelling stories (Harry Potter included), TV really leaves a lot to be desired. Sigh. Given that the world as we know it seems to be coming to an end, I have decided it is time for a bit of mindless Escapism. For me, watching tv and reading have always been favorite modes of escape. I wish I could say working out is a form of escape for me, like it is for my friend Shannon, but sadly it is merely a chore on my to-do list. Ok so here it is...drumroll please... my favorite things when I need to get away: 1. The Daily Show with John Stewart (my longest-running form of Escapism) 2. Mad Men (John Hamm... sigh... need I say more?) 3. Project Runway (The kids and I are all addicted) 4. The internet ( Huffingtonpost.com for news, wonkette.com for politics, coolmompicks.com , dooce.com , and mommytrackd.com for mommy stuff; defamer.com and gawker.com for fun... these are just a few of the sites I visit nearly every day) 5. Music. Did I mention I attended the Madonna concert at Madison Square Garden Monday night? Pure bliss. 6. Books. I am in the middle of reading Jhumpa Lahiri's amazing collection of stories, Unaccustomed Earth . 7. Friends. There is nothing like a girls' night out to help you temporarily forget about everything serious in life! 8. Movies. I love getting a big bucket of popcorn and losing myself at the movies. 9. Time alone with my DH, Larry. He always makes me feel like everything is going to be ok... even when all other signs point in a different direction. 10. Family night at home. I LOVE a night at home wi ...
