Well, it looks like this year's election, despite all the talk of change, is going to be more of the same-old same-old--the Culture Wars. Once again, it’s the sneering Elites from the Northeast, Big Cities, the Ivy League, Washington, and... ...

Insanely rich Lynn Forester de Rothschild, an ardent Hillary Clinton supporter who has endorsed John McCain and Sarah Palin, could have spared  herself  the ridicule coming her way today if she hadn't said she thinks Barack Obama is "an Elitist." The differences between the Republican and Democratic candidates are significant, and she could have singled out any number of meaningful positions to explain her move to McCain's side. But Elitist? Very, very few people occupy that truly elite niche of wealth, power and privilege that enfolds the family Rothschild. And giving Lady Rothschild her due, she was a fabulously wealthy lawyer and entrepreneur who made $100 million on her own before she married her fabulously wealthy husband (and honeymooned at the White House with Hillary and Bill). Here's where the Rothschild's kick back and connect with the little people. It's their spread in Buckinghamshire. A separate point of hypocrisy is Lady Forester de Rothschild's abandonment of economic theories she held during the Democratic primary. In support of Clinton's candidacy she told Portfolio: "What is in the interest of all Americans? I think if history is our guide, we've had stronger economies, more wealth creation under Democratic presidents than Republican presidents. So I don't understand why all my capitalist friends aren't Democrats." Maybe Milady, who was born in New Jersey, has spent too much time in England. She probably meant to say ...

Right-wingers are upset that Newsweek didn't airbrush Sarah Palin 's picture on their cover. We offer that airbrushing Palin and making below average look like a good choice isn't Newsweek's job - that's the McCain campaign's agenda. After the jump there is a video of Megyn Kelly showing her outrage for Newsweek as an 'Elitist, liberal magazine'. When Newsweek is considered 'Elitist' it really points to a larger theme of the right-wing's desire to lower our standards of intelligence. NASCAR the sport of kings! continued... We’re calling it: the election is about to turn “red” again! Even though McCain has randomly surrendered Michigan and now needs to win Pennsylvania to have like a 15% shot at this thing… well this election will not be decided by “math numbers,” it will be decided by the American people! And the American people [...] ...

Denise Tiller, Midwest Voices 2008 Panelist John McCain continues to call Barack Obama an Elitist although McCain doesn't know how many properties he owns. According to a NEWSWEEK report, McCain owns 13 cars. Although he claims to be a big supporter of Detroit, he owns a Lexus, Prius, Honda, and VW. He also owns a Cadillac, Lincoln, GMC SUV, and a Ford pickup. The Obamas have one car, a Ford Escape hybrid. My daughter in the Air Force and my daughter in college both have Mazada Tributes, which are Escape clones, because they are fun and practical. There is nothing Elitist about them. read more ...

clipped by: doodleicious clipper's remarks: if this catches your eye-you will want to follow the link and read the entire article Clip Source: www.smirkingchimp.com Hell, Yes, I'm An Elitist! One of the most truly terrifying things about the last eight years has been the triumph of ignorance. There has always been a tendency on the right to demonize intelligence, referring to educated, intelligent people as 'ivory tower elitists' and 'eggheads', and conflating brains with being 'out of touch' with the 'real folks'. But, until 2000, this tendency was not making national policy decisions. George W. Bush, in celebrating his own lack of intellect and curiosity, has made a virtue of ignorance, and by breaking the glass ceiling on stupidity, demonstrated to those who already think this way that there are no limits to where ignorance can take you. He has also demonstrated that governing by ignorance is not only possible, but easily done, and that ignorance can beat intelligence, given the right set of circumstances. Tags: politics ...

The most recent Time /SRBI poll , conducted September 26-29, asked likely voters with an "unfavorable opinion" of Sen. Barack Obama to respond to various "reasons that voters give us for having an unfavorable opinion of Barack Obama." Among the "reasons" the poll offered were attacks on Obama's character, including suggesting he has lied about his religion: "He's really a Muslim and not a Christian"; "He's an Elitist who doesn't understand the needs of ordinary people"; and, "He's not as patriotic as he should be." The poll also asked all respondents how well various "statements describe Barack Obama and his campaign for the presidency." Among the "statements" the poll offered was: "The real Barack Obama holds extreme positions which won't be revealed until after he's elected, no matter what he says now." Neither the October 1 Time.com article on the poll nor the questionnaire posted on SRBI's website gives any indication that respondents were told of reasons that voters might hold "an unfavorable opinion" of McCain or were asked to give reasons why they hold such an opinion of McCain -- even though the poll itself found that more respondents hold an unfavorable view of McCain than of Obama. Nor were they asked if the "real" John McCain "holds extreme positions which won't be revealed until after he's elected, no matter what he says now." From the September 26-29 Time /SRBI poll : Q13. How well do each of the following statements ...

Baroness Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, wife of British banking scion Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, endorsed John McCain -- the guy with a private jet and seven houses -- for President today, calling Obama "an Elitist." As the saying goes, I am not making that up. Aristocrat Who Favored Clinton Endorses McCain , When not engaged in politics, de Rothschild -- whom the Wall Street Journal dubbed a "New York socialite" and Portfolio has described as "the flashiest hostess in London" -- has the run of a sprawling estate in Buckinghamshire, north of London, known as Ascott House. In the U.S., she summers on Martha's Vineyard. And she has not been shy with her feelings about Obama prior to today, telling CNN weeks ago -- and without any hint of irony -- that, "frankly, I don't like him. I feel like he is an Elitist." Is there anything else to say about McCain and his claims that he is one of us regular people? ...

Martin Peretz takes off the gloves: It's amazing how even the cultivated and well-educated intellectuals of the Right like (actually, my friend) Bill Kristol, who occasionally teaches political philosophy with Harvey Mansfield at Harvard, are eating up the slop that has been put out on the doorstep for them. There was not a single concession made to them in St. Paul, not a serious philosophical gloss that has been the pride (and prejudice) of the neoconservative theology for a quarter century. They are now egalitarians in the sense that they stoop to the biases of people with ...

ThinkProgress collects the complaints from the right about Obama correctly pronouncing Pakistan during the 2nd debate. I especially like this email sent to the terminally ridiculous Kathryn Lopez at the National Review. The emailer labels it a "liberal elite moment": When Obama says Pock-i-stahn I have an uncontrollable urge to read the New Yorker and find some Chardonnay. Fortunately I have an old copy of NR and a Coors Light to snap me back to reality. Seriously though -- no one in flyover country says Pock-i-stahn. It's annoying.
