In an article in The Post-Standard you can read about what head coach Jim Boeheim said to the 100 student-athletes that attended the Camp. Hard to imagine anything too shocking coming out of the Skins cuts, and unless they actually do put Malcolm Kelly on IR then I suspect it will be a pretty mundane afternoon. The punter battle remains the most interesting plotline (my hunch is Frost). Marcus Mason got a lot of attention but I'm not sure he makes the final 53. His special teams play is not Elite, after watching some tape he struggled in pass protection Thursday (and with all the 5-6 man protection schemes Zorn runs the backs have got to be able to hold it down in that regard). I think four backs is a luxury they might not be able to afford. Todd Wade could make it despite missing all of Camp, and Chris Wilson looks to be in good shape to me as well, espedcially with Jason Taylor iffy and Erasmus James coming off such a ...

I wondered for about five minutes why the GOP decided to kick off their big convention speakers with Fred Thompson, who was so lackluster a campaigner. After five and a half minutes, I knew. He is a natural-born storyteller, and he used his jes'folks gifts to position McCain as a man of courage, daring and honor. A bad-ass yes, but he was always on the side of honor. Thompson went to gruesome links to remind viewers why they first loved McCain: the suffering he endured in prison Camp. Thompson presented McCain as the embodiment of classic martial virtues that any civilization looks for in a leader. So there you have it: John McCain is going to run as Cincinnatus.,putting down his plow in the Senate to save the capital city from itself. I thought Thompson's rhetoric was exceptionally effective, especially hs framing this conflict as one in which the media Elite are on the other side. The professor sitting next to me said, "Eastern elites -- he's going after eastern elites." It was vintage Nixon 1960. It still works. Thompson left you with the picture of these two candidates who are tough Western mavericks who don't play by the rules but who want to get good things done ("Chaotic Good" would be their D&D orientation). And then on comes Lieberman with a speech designed to pitch McCain and Palin as the true change agents. I thought the Republicans had a really big night. Can't wait to see what Palin says on Wednesday. ...

John Lynch, the nine-time Pro Bowl safety signed by New England two weeks ago, was released Sunday. "It goes without saying but John is an all-time great safety, one of the league's classiest professionals and his Elite play speaks for itself," coach Bill Belichick said of Lynch, who turns 37 on Sept. 25. "As has been the case in other situations, I would not rule anything out down the road." During their decade-long run of success, the Patriots have regularly signed veterans and often released them, only to sign them again if needed. Belichick's comments indicate Lynch may be in that category. He has played 15 seasons, 11 in Tampa Bay and four in Denver. "I have no regrets about my time thus far with the Patriots," Lynch said in a statement released by the club. "The immense respect that I've long held for the organization has been only heightened over the past couple of weeks. I am going to keep all options open and look forward with excitement to see what the future brings." New England signed Lynch after he was released by Denver early in training Camp. ...
