Two advisers with ties to the Elian Gonzalez controversy of eight years ago are causing problems for Barack Obama among some Cuban-Americans in Florida, The Miami Herald reported Thursday. Eight Cuban-American exile organizations are urging three lawmakers who backed Hillary Clinton to demand the Obama campaign remove vice presidential search committee member Eric Holder and foreign [...] ...

Matthew Fogg lived on the bottom floor of South Hall on Marshall University's campus in 1972 and from his room pumped out music that rocked the whole campus. He was known as WFOG. His speakers sat in the window. He had a microphone and he would call you out for the whole campus to hear. "Faye Redd wasn't in the BUS meeting tonight, brothers and sisters." Calling someone out in the 1970s is the Old School equivalent of "putting you on blast" in 2008. Fogg made announcements to let us know when BUS (Black United Students) was meeting. He turned Rona Barrett when he spotted a couple stepping out on the town. Rona Barrett was the Old School Entertainment Tonight. But mostly, Matt Fogg played music, good music, from his room. Decades later I was watching CNN when Mathew Fogg's picture flashed across the screen. Fogg was a deputy U.S. Marshall discussing the use of weapons to seize Elian Gonzalez in Miami. That's the only time I have seen Fogg since we graduated. But it makes you stand up and take notice when you see someone you went to college with on national television. But then again, they made a movie about my era at Masrhall University. It's called "We Are Marshall" and I highly advise renting it. Holler back. ...

Re: “Politics in Justice firings unethical, unacceptable,” Oct. 1 editorial. Your concern regarding the firing of several U.S. attorneys by Alberto Gonzales and the Bush administration makes one wonder whether you had similar concerns regarding the antics of Janet Reno and the Clinton administration in her actions, among others, in the Ruby Ridge assault on the Randy Weaver family; in the assault on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas; her refusal to appoint independent counsel regarding Chinese political contributions to the Clinton political campaign; and her handling of Elian Gonzalez being captured at gunpoint. Then there is the matter of Bill Clinton’s firing of 93 U.S. attorneys at the beginning of his administration. Milton E. Meyer Jr. , Lakewood This letter was published in the Oct. 8 edition. ... Florida Dems today slammed John McCain for an adviser's ties to a French liquor giant that does biz in Cuba, saying that after an attempt to "deceitfully link" Barack Obama to Fidel Castro, the McCain campaign "has a responsibility to answer the serious questions that are now being raised about their own candidate's own direct ties to Cuba. "While it's unlikely that John McCain's Low Road Express will give any straight answers, these new revelations are turning into serious political problems for his campaign," the Florida Democratic Party said in a release. Republicans were quick to return fire, pointing out in an e-mail to the Herald that Obama's foreign policy adviser Greg Craig, an attorney who was already under fire from some exiles for representing Cuban rafter Elian Gonzalez's father in the bitter custody dispute, in 2004 and 2005 defended Canadian businessman, Stefan Brodie, who was convicted of violating the US embargo against Cuba. ... by Katie Fretland Eight Cuban American exile groups are demanding that presidential hopeful Barack Obama remove two campaign advisors who were involved in the Elian Gonzalez case. Representatives of the organizations wrote a letter to Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and Miami Mayor Manny Diaz with a call for Obama to get rid of senior foreign policy advisor Greg Craig and vice presidential vetter Eric Holder. The groups said the men's role in the campaign is a "great offense" to the Cuban American community. "As you well know, both these men played prominent roles in what we consider a very dark page in the history of the Cuban exile community - the forced return of Elian Gonzalez to the communist island to live in tyranny," the letter states. Craig represented Elian's father in a battle over custody of the child. Holder was deputy U.S. attorney general when Elian was ordered to return to Cuba. In 1999, Elian crossed from Cuba to the United States in a small boat, losing his mother during the trip. In 2000, gun-wielding government agents removed Elian from his relatives' Miami home. Apparently meriting front page attention, anecdotal evidence has revealed that construction worker catcalls have decreased. Sell! Sell! Sell! A story that was challenging the Elian Gonzalez saga for the most overblown and boring story of all-time has finally come to a close. As you've probably heard by now, Brett Favre is heading to New York to play for the Jets. While New York Jets' fans probably spent most of their Thursday not working and enjoying a cold beverage or twenty, a select group of Chad Pennington stock holders are at this very moment being talked down off of rooftops and bridges. Pennington, the former starting quarterback of the Jets and only NFL quarterback who can't throw a pass over 40 yards, was released today and is longer employed in the NFL. It is rumored that the Dolphins (the 1-15 Dolphins) are interested in his services. If he signs with Miami, he'll be competing with such talents as Josh McCown, John Beck, and Chad Henne (and it should be mentioned Quincy Carter was also given a workout). So, in review, Pennington goes from the starter on a 4-12 team, to backing up Kellen Clemens on said team, to being unemployed, to potentially battling three guys that would lose their jobs to Vinny Testaverde if he were still alive. Pennington's collapse is sort of like the PCInet stock my friend Brian once bought. PCInet was one of those booming Internet companies with a high stock value, then crashed and ruined people, then made a small blip on the comeback trail when Brian bought 1,000 shares for like six cents a piece, but finally bottomed out ... Now we all need a Terry Schiavo bracelet: "If I'm incapacitated, I want to live!" (That used to go without saying.) If my (soon-to-be) ex-spouse could pull the plug on me while I was incapaciated in the hospital ... she'd do it in a second. And she'd have me cremated quick - with no autopsy. Kind of like - well - you know who . In the words of Mark Steyn : * * * Where do you go to get a living-will kit saying that in the event of a hideous accident I don't want to be put to death by a Florida judge or the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals? And, if you had such a living will, would any U.S. court recognize it? * * * During another Easter season, five years ago, the Clinton Administration and the INS rolled over the Florida State court system - to seize Elian Gonzalez (as opposed to today's non-seizure of Terry Schiavo) - in a way that would make today's Republican Congress and President blanch . I'm off to order my "Let me live!" bracelet now... ... Source: therealests.blogspot.com --- 55 days ago

They include current miserable Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and previous Deputy Attorney General and 2000 Elian Gonzalez seizure enabler Eric Holder. I don’t follow things closely enough to know much about the others on the list, but if the two lighweights just mentioned aren’t anti-Obama motivators (regardless of your party), I don’t know what would be.
