In the wake of Republican complaints about an activist group that used felons in its voter registration drive in the city , Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is stressing that the city is working with Authorities to investigate all instances of potential wrongdoing. Indeed, city Election officials have referred 49 voter registration workers to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office for investigation as to whether they intentionally submitted fraudulent names. The first charge in the matter was issued Monday . In a statement, Barrett said: "I want to reassure city of Milwaukee voters the mission of the city Election Commission is to run a fair Election and to protect an individual's fundamental right to vote." ...

Filed under: Barack Obama , John McCain , 2008 President , Polls Paul Krugman Something very ugly is taking shape on the political scene: as McCain's chances fade, the crowds at his rallies are, by all accounts, increasingly gripped by insane rage . I don't know, the only insane rage I see around this Election was when Sarah Palin threatened to completely knock Obama off of his pedestal. We saw lots of ugliness then. Michelle Malkin has a list of stuff like this The Republican V.P. nom would be "gang-raped by my big black brothers" if she enters Manhattan , Bernhard said. Palin is said to be making a campaign stop in New York next week. And this: And this: And so much more, now including Molotov cocktails : Authorities have arrested two men after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a 4-foot by 8-foot campaign sign for Republican presidential candidate John McCain in a southeast Portland yard. Karen Scrutton said she was asleep inside her home at 7956 S.E. 17th Ave. in the Sellwood neighborhood when she saw her sign go up in flames after 1 a.m. But I guess this is all McCain's fault darn him! Obama was so busy trying to raise the civil discourse until that McCain up and makes the left angry by actually trying to win an Election. How dare he! Of course there are some kooks and thugs on McCain's side too, everyone has them, and McCain had better do something to lower the temperature quick. Why, one of his supporters might even break th ...

State and federal investigators are questioning the validity of some voting drives performed by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, the group whose registration tactics are largely aimed at low-income citizens. Such voting drives tend to favor Democratic candidates, according to an Associated Press analysis of voting data. ACORN, which claims to have registered 1.3 million people nationwide since 2007, says that any fraudulent voting registrations have more to do with canvassers making up fake applications to get better commissions than a concerted effort to influence the outcome of the Election. Last Tuesday, Nevada Authorities seized records from the group's Las Vegas offices, saying they submitted fake voter-registration forms, including applications purportedly from the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys. ...

ACORN office in Vegas raided in voter-fraud probe Oct 7 01:30 PM US/Eastern By OSKAR GARCIA Associated Press Writer LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada state Authorities are raiding the Las Vegas headquarters of an organization that works to get low-income people to vote. A Nevada secretary of state's office spokesman said Tuesday that investigators are looking for evidence of voter fraud at the office of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN. No one was at the ACORN office when state agents arrived with a search warrant and began carting records and documents away. Secretary of State spokesman Bob Walsh says ACORN is accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false and duplicate names. The raid comes two months after state and federal Authorities formed a task force to pursue Election-fraud allegations in Nevada. http://www.breitbart.tv/?p=190503 __________________________________________ Obama needs to get elected! The new hot thing on the right? ACORN. It seems like every conservative media outlet or commentator is bringing up the group, and charging it with committing voter fraud on a massive scale. The meme is getting to its intended targets -- witness one of the women captured in the video posted earlier , who knew vague details about the organization but, when it came down to it, wasn't really sure why she was supposed to be so angry. John McCain himself called for an investigation at a recent campaign rally, apparently in response to crowd demand. These claims pop up in every Election cycle. This time, though, they have a particular resonance. Conservatives are attempting to use some tenuous links between ACORN and Barack Obama to attempt to connect the Democratic nominee to the group and, by extension, to voter fraud and who knows what kind of other nefarious activities. All this noise creates quite a bit of confusion as to what, exactly, the problem is with ACORN's activities and who is committing all these acts of alleged voter fraud. It's important to cut through that noise because the portrayal of the situation is at odds with reality. It is undoubtedly true that ACORN, like many nonprofits -- and not just commmunity groups but institutions like universities and hospitals as well -- could do a much better job of due diligence about what goes on inside the organization, and about being open and honest with Authorities. Nevada Authorities said on Tuesday they seized fraudulent voter registration forms from the offices of a community group, including some filed under the names of Dallas Cowboys stars Tony Romo and Terrell Owens, the Associated Press reported . "Tony Romo is not registered to vote in the state of Nevada, and anybody trying to pose as Terrell Owens won't be able to cast a ballot on Nov. 4," said Secretary of State Ross Miller. Adam Savage says: "My wife has been working for these folks. I'm passing it on to you in case you're interested. It's sooper inportant. They are non-partisan, btw." Project Vote has now posted online lists of people (with their addresses) who filed registration applications in various counties but who were not put on the voter rolls by Election Authorities because of alleged or actual deficiencies in their applications. The list is available at www.ProjectVote2008.org. The lists will be supplemented as we get new ones. This should be extremely valuable in helping 501c3 groups around the country locate people who think they are properly registered – but aren't – either correct their registrations or file new, correct ones before the deadline so that they can vote November 4th. The McCain camp and the RNC have held several (at least six between them) reporter conference calls this week to draw attention to instances of fraud in voter registrations collected by the group ACORN. ACORN is a community organizing group that advocates for affordable housing and leads voter registration drives, primarily in lower-income and minority (i.e. Democratic-leaning) neighborhoods. They hire contractors to register voters for them, which sometimes results in fake registrations getting turned in -- for example, recently the entire Dallas Cowboys roster supposedly registered to vote in Las Vegas through ACORN -- leading state Authorities to raid the organization's office there. Obviously Tony Romo won't be showing up at a Vegas precinct on Election day, so the fraudulent registrations shouldn't effect the outcome of an Election. But the bad paperwork does gum up the works at an already-busy time for Election officials, especially since ACORN is required by law to file all the forms they receive -- even if they are patently fraudulent (ACORN officials say they make every effort to flag fake forms before they go to the Secretaries of State). The organization says it has registered 1.3 million new voters this year. The vast majority of those registrations are legit, but the group's registration drives are currently being investigated in at least eight states. The McCain camp and RNC's calls, press releases, and other recent pub ...

One of the more slender branches onto which have crawled those opposed to better measures against vote fraud is the claim that such fraud simply doesn't exist, at least in widespread form. There's no sign of significant fraud , goes the claim. Well, there's this: "Tony Romo is not registered to vote in Nevada," yet there he was heading for the voter list, noted Nevada's secretary of state after his people raided the Las Vegas office of ACORN, the lefty community organizers who have made a specialty lately of voter registration. Authorities allege that ACORN falsified registrations, with workers ducking out of the heat and into libraries to look up lists of names. "We don't know how many (falsified forms) are here; there may be two, or there may be thousands," said Bob Walsh, spokesman for the secretary of state's office. Meanwhile, in Kansas City, officials are wading through "possibly hundreds of questionable or duplicate voter-registration forms" turned in by ACORN, all bogging down the office on deadline day for registering in Missouri. But the best one is in Cleveland , where ACORN "admitted to Cuyahoga County Election officials Tuesday that it cannot eliminate fraud from its operation." "Local representatives of the organization told Cuyahoga board members that they don't have the resources to identify fraudulent cards turned in by paid canvassers," reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "None of us have ever achieved perfectio ...

Nevada investigators today raided the offices of ACORN -- a group that works to register minorities and low-income people to vote -- looking for evidence of voter fraud, reports the Associated Press. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform (ACORN) is accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with false and duplicate names, according to a spokesman at the office of Secretary of State Ross Miller, a Democrat. Two months ago, state and federal Authorities formed a joint task force to pursue charges of Election fraud in Nevada. We're looking into the question of how much credible evidence exists of ACORN's involvement in significant voting fraud, and will keep you posted. ...

Yesterday, we told you about the raid conducted by Nevada state Authorities on the Las Vegas office of ACORN. The office of Democratic Secretary of State Ross Miller has been telling reporters that the raid was prompted by complaints by Clark County officials about fraudulent voting forms being submitted by the group, which works to register low-income voters. An affidavit released by the state today described forms being received with the same name, as well as with fraudulent addresses and with personal information that did not match state records. But the state has still not said how many such forms were submitted. Bob Walsh, a spokesman for the Secretary of State, told TPMmuckraker that the office is working to answer that question. In a statement released yesterday, ACORN called the raid a "bogus attack" and asserted that it has "BENT OVER BACKWARDS to identify fraud and to encourage the Board of Elections to prosecute fraud." But we're still puzzled by something: Republicans have a long history of clashing with ACORN, whose mission to register low-income and minority voters serves the cause of Democrats. So it's not clear what, beyond the immediate allegations, prompted Miller, a Democrat, to launch a high-profile raid of a major voter registration organization four weeks before Election day. According to Walsh, Miller, who has a background as a prosecutor, has always made law and order a priority. And ACORN does have a hist ...

On Thursday’s American Morning program on CNN, co-anchor Kiran Chetry failed to mention ACORN’s name during a news brief about the law enforcement raid on the liberal organization’s local headquarters in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of an investigation into allegations of voter fraud. Chetry called ACORN a “non-profit group” that was “disputing claims it committed voter registration fraud.” She also referred to the group, which is linked to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, as a “community organization that helps organize voter outreach.” The only indication that the brief was about ACORN was a file video that was displayed for 5 seconds that showed the organization’s name written on a form. During the 28-second brief, which aired at the bottom-half of the 6 am Eastern hour of the CNN program, Chetry also stated how the raid occurred after Authorities in Sin City noticed “some names did not match addresses” with some of the voter registration forms submitted by ACORN. She then continued that “[t]hey [local Authorities] also say some of the forms included names of Dallas Cowboys players. The group's regional director claims they were the ones who tipped off Election officials about fake or duplicate forms.” An article by Molly Ball in Thursday’s Las Vegas Review-Journal expanded on the story surrounding ACORN and this raid. “A community activist group under fire for fraudulent voter registration defended itself Wednesd ...

Jim Geraghty points to a story in the Cleveland Plain Dealer about the voter-registration group ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. It seems that in the process of soliciting, collecting, reviewing and turning in registration applications, it really can't do much about fraud: A national voter-registration group admitted to Cuyahoga County Election officials Tuesday that it cannot eliminate fraud from its operation. The group blamed inefficiency and lack of resources for problems such as being unable to spot duplicate voter-registration cards or cards that may have been filled out by workers to make quotas. The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, has turned in at least 65,000 cards to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections in the last year. The board has investigated potentially fraudulent cards since August. The group has faced similar inquiries in other large Ohio counties. And Nevada state Authorities recently raided ACORN's Las Vegas headquarters searching for evidence of fraud, according to the Associated Press. ...Cuyahoga Election workers flagged about 50 names on suspicious cards. The cards were to register the same names, raising the possibility that canvassers shared information when trying to make quotas. ...Kris Harsh, ACORN's head Cleveland organizer, blamed the elections board for not scrutinizing ACORN's suspicious cards. He said the group can't be expected ...

There really cannot be enough attention paid to groups like ACORN, that are quite clearly engaged in voter fraud : State Authorities on Tuesday raided an organization that registers low-income people to vote, alleging that its canvassers falsified forms with bogus names, fake addresses or famous personalities. The secretary of state's office launched an investigation after noticing that names did not match addresses and that most members of the Dallas Cowboys appeared to be registering in Nevada to vote in November's general Election. October is a lovely month. Always... full of things. It makes you wonder whether Rezko really is talking? FBI investigates Obama's friend The FBI is investigating a former Illinois state senator who is a poker-playing buddy of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama. According to Chicago Authorities, the FBI visited the offices in Joliet, Ill., of a Will County auditor to ask questions about Larry Walsh, a longtime friend of Mr. Obama's, and his chief of staff Matt Ryan. Mr. Walsh, who served in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2005, was endorsed by Mr. Obama in his county executive Election bid. With the support of some of Mr. Obama's U.S. Senate volunteers, he easily defeated incumbent Republican Joseph Mikan. Why am I bringing up Rezko? Senate Bill 2063. Here we go: Once upon a time there was a proposed third airport plan in Illinois . It originally starred our old friend Tony: So, on Sunday, June 25, 2006, at the Chicago Four Seasons Hotel, Rezko showed up by himself. He said he could offer gubernatorial support for ALNAC’s airport plan – if the governor were allowed to make key appointments to ALNAC’s Board. In essence, Rezko wanted to turn ALNAC into one of those state panels controlled by unaccountable pay-to-play ringleaders like Rezko and Stuart Levine. When Jackson and ALNAC quickly rejected Rezko’s offer, they didn’t realize it would be their last official meeting with the state on the airport. A few weeks ...
