Headphones are always a hassle. If you're like us, it's always a challenge getting the right pair. Plus there are so many on the market with so many features. It's hard to make heads or tails out of them. Strangely enough, the Audio Bone earphones use bone conduction to make sounds reverberate in your bones. Sounds weird? Gamechanger, the company that makes them, says that the Audio Bone headphones are healthier and more comfortable to use than traditional earbuds or in-ear headphones. It seems that users who have lost some hearing can benefit from these new bone conducting headphones since they bypass the Eardrum. They are also waterproof and will see for $190. We never thought of piano-playing as an endurance sport. That is, until we went to the New York Philharmonic and heard Rachmaninoff’s “Piano Concerto No. 3, in D minor,” a 44-minute monstrosity of key-stomping, Eardrum-blasting, tempo-defying madness that left the pianist perspiring like O.J. Simpson at a church confessional — and the audience dumbstruck with [...] ...

IT WAS A first half clinic. A beat down. And an Eardrum-busting anthem of black and orange pride. Oregon State came out and punished the No. 1 team in the land, dominating the battle in the trenches on both lines. But the second half was a nerve-jangling roller coaster, with USC storming back and the Beaver Nation was on pins and needles until the very end. ...

Talib Kweli's first home video ever is dynamite for your Eardrum. Talib Kweli has long been associated with the alternative hip-hop movement in America. His politically and socially conscious rhymes have been first-rate for years, ever since he met Mos Def and formed Black Star. With one of the best albums in hip-hop history to start his career in Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star, the bar was set pretty... ...

I think it’s safe to say that 90 percent of you Collegians have iPods and 100 percent of you probably use those Eardrum-popping white earbuds. Get rid of those immediately because I doubt you’ll want to trade them in for hearing aids in a few years. As I’ve said in the past, in-ears are where [...] ...

Legendary Australian metal band AC/DC has released dates for this fall's U.S. tour -- and it's yet another big tour bypassing the Triangle for points west. At this point, the closest date is Dec. 18 in Charlotte. Now I wouldn't say I'm a gigantic fan; but I would say that AC/DC puts on a show that's about the most stupid fun I've ever had. As an example of what we'll be missing, below is the review from last time they played the Triangle.   Still loud after all these years By David Menconi, News & Observer April 3, 2001 Raleigh -- And here you thought dinosaurs were extinct. Yes, most of them did die off about a hundred million years ago. But one surviving specimen of Metallicus Extincticus still roams the Earth, crushing every Eardrum in its path: AC/DC, the legendary Australian quintet that played the Raleigh Entertainment & Sports Arena on Sunday night. In a career going on 30 years, AC/DC has survived disco, punk, new wave, hip-hop, grunge, electronica and teen pop, all without changing hardly a whit. The band that time forgot, AC/DC is the Energizer dinosaur -- and still the loudest, meanest, biggest T. Rex on the block. Hey, evolution's for sissies. AC/DC has also survived something that would be a killing blow to most bands, the death of its original lead singer, Bon Scott, who died in 1980. But in AC/DC's case, the front man matters little because the star of the show has always been guitarist Angus Young. Sunday's show b ...

Here at Popgadget we get hundreds of press releases each week. But recently I got one that I not only read all the way through, I laughed my head off. It's for the new BT530 Jabra headse,t but the "headsetetiquette" is for all of us (kudos to Mike Rush at 360 PR): Sure Bluetooth headsets increase efficiency, but how do you know you or your loved one won't be an abuser? By following a few simple rules, you can be hands-free and stylish without being "that guy" : 1) Never incorporate your Bluetooth headset into your hairdo 2) Keep the hand waving and shouting to a minimum in public to avoid looking crazy 3) Never whisper sweet nothings into a loved one’s ear while someone is talking into your own 4) You or your dentist can sport a headset, but never psychiatrists 5) Ditch it at wedding ceremonies, but feel free to tune out during divorce proceedings The new titanium, lightweight Jabra headset features their proprietary "Noise Blackout technology" which uses dual-microphones, DSP technology and Audio Shock Protection to cancel out background noise and preserve voice quality in the process. On a busy street I could hear my girlfriend clearly, and when she yelled "@#$&*" at someone who cut her off, it didn't blow my Eardrum off because of the Audio Shock Protection. Obviously, that feature is going to come in handy for me. While it's very comfortable in the ear -and comes with "eargels" to customize the size and wear without the earhoo ...

Filed under: Next big thing , Entrepreneurs , Small business When Cyrus Massoumi ruptured his Eardrum (during a flight), he tried to find a qualified ENT. Unfortunately, the process took a grueling four days. Interestingly enough, this experience was the spark for an interesting venture: ZocDoc . In fact, the company recently announced a $3 million round of funding from Khosla Ventures. True, the online healthcare space is fairly crowded with major players like Google (NASDAQ: GOOG ) and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT ). However, while they are focused on medical records, ZocDoc's mission is on something that often gets neglected - searching and scheduling of physicians. With ZocDoc, patients can search the database on criteria such as specialty, location and insurance qualifications (which can be critical). All in all, it's an interesting idea with a large market potential. As of now, ZocDoc is only limited to Manhattan and Brooklyn. Moreover, the site has only a few specialty categories, such as dental and dermatology. But all this should change soon since the company now has some capital to move things forward. Currently, the site has about 30,000 registered users and the growth rate is a torrid 50% per month -- an indication there is a serious need for the service. Artist: Lykke Li Album: Youth Novels Label: Atlantic Records Release Date: August 19th, 2008 In a market where singer-songwriter-types like Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles can come to prominence virtually overnight, avant-pop songbird Lykke Li will invariably be left in the shadows. That's not to say there isn't any hope for some miraculous crossover, but it's more than unlikely. The primary reason for this being that the sum and substance of Li’s debut, Youth Novels, is off-kilter. Nevertheless, Li’s masterful pop miniatures demonstrate a new breadth of handling, which can be partially attributed to the proficient knob-turning of Björn Yttling and Lasse Mårtén. The aforementioned production duo provides the perfect marriage of Swedish indie-rock and pop accoutrements. The impeccable construction merely paves the way for an elusive, spine-chilling quality that is inextricably tied to Scandinavian pop. Li’s eerily hushed melodies—waltzing and wafting in and out of the Eardrum—certainly seem a bit too eccentric for the average American pop palate. Even worse, her sharp tongue, which grimly mocks contemporary pop motifs, may be easily misconstrued as some sort of heretical viewpoint. Lykke Li - "Little Bit" However, the blasé tone strewn throughout Li’s impressive debut is indicative of her willingness to examine the uncharted realms of human experience. The album’s promising lead track, “Little Bit,” explores the notion of unre ...

On Dec. 8, 1944, Anthony Altier of Dover was leading his squad through a vineyard near Strasbourg, France, on a mission to take a house held by the Germans. As the American soldiers crept forward, they didn’t realize that the Germans had the vineyard wired. As they got closer to the house, Altier and his fellow GIs began setting off mines as they tripped the wires. The squad fell back to a nearby road. Altier figured their second attempt to pass through the vineyard would be a lot easier because they already had detonated all the mines placed there. But when the squad reached the road, Altier discovered that he and many of his men had been wounded by shrapnel from the mines. His right arm was bleeding. “It looked like a sledgehammer hit my arm,” he recalled recently. Altier headed back to headquarters to get stretchers for his men. It wasn’t until he reached there that a doctor pointed out that his right leg was bleeding as well. That was the end of his combat service in World War II. Altier was born at Dover on July 6, 1921, the ninth of the 10 children of John and Mary Altieri. They were both natives of Italy. He is the last surviving member of his family. When the war began, Altier tried to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard but was rejected because he had a punctured Eardrum. He returned to Dover and went to work at the Reeves steel mill. Then in 1943, he was drafted into the Army. This time his punctured Eardrum didn’t keep him ...

When helplessly stranded with a flat tire, one may look at the person who helps them out as a star. And for a lucky Texas couple, that star was Tony Romo ! The Dallas Cowboy quarterback's interstate interception came just in time to help Bill and Sharon White on Sept. 7 in Texas, when Romo arrived to find the couple feverishly attempting to make the repairs themselves, People reports. "All of a sudden I hear a voice say, 'Do you need help?'" Sharon tells People . Unbeknownst to them initially, it was Jessica Simpson ’s famous beau who helped them inflate their tire. "At that point, I looked at him and thought, 'Dang, he looks familiar,'" Sharon continues. "I go, 'You know what? You look like Tony Romo.' He looked down and just gave me that boyish smile he's got. Then he said, 'That's because I am.'" "I just screamed as loud as I could," Sharon tells People . "Then I grabbed him and hugged him." So taken aback by the star encounter, the couple say they forgot to thank Romo for his help. "I'd thank [Tony] so much for stopping," Sharon says. "I love him to death, he's a great guy. And I hope I didn't bust his Eardrum!" [Read full story on The Insider] ...

Section: Audio , Headphones , Portable Audio Previously, on Gadgetell…we covered a story about an exhibit on Bruhl’s Terrace that used bone conduction technology .  All a visitor has to do is rest his or her elbows on a metal rail and cover his or her ears.  It appears that a company known as GameChanger has finally tapped into this technology with the Audio Bone 1.0 headphones.  These headphones can somehow bypass the Eardrum and deliver sound straight into your brain.  Since all of this is possible through bone conduction science, it means that there is no blowing out the Eardrum with these.  This makes bone conduction a safer alternative to normal headphones, even though some might be creeped out by using the bone as live wire.  On the subject of using your body as a conductor, I can only assume that this isn’t dangerous.  Speaking of things that aren’t dangerous, I’ve heard that these Audio Bone 1.0 headphones are waterproof.  If you’d like to try these out, they will cost about $190.  You can get them in colors of black, orange, and blue.  Read [ CrunchGear ] Full Story » | Written by Mark Rollins for Gadgetell . | Comment on this Article » ...

Filed under: Audio/Video , iPod , iPhone The New York Times' David Pogue has written up a little something special for your ears: A review of some new bone-conduction headphones, which pass sound directly through your skull to your inner ear. The sound bypasses the Eardrum and, in the process, leaves your ears in better shape -- particularly relevant in our digital times, where most doctors insist that incessant iPod use is destroying our hearing. Unfortunately, the conclusion is that these devices don't exactly solve the problem. As it stands, the best option out there is a device called the Audio Bone earphones. Because the 'Bones go on your ears rather than in them, they effectively solve the rudeness problem: You're not shutting yourself off from real-life conversation when wearing them, and Pogue compares it to having a bookshelf stereo system playing in the background -- a really, really tiny one that only you can hear. But the real problem, as we've confirmed with our own hands-on test with the Audio Bones, is that the sound just isn't up to snuff. Compared to nearly any pair of headphones you've ever tried (even those included with your iPod), the Audio Bones sound incredibly muffled, tinny, and lack any real presence. Which pretty much defeats the purpose. You may now commence going deaf. [From: NY Times ] Read  |  Permalink  |  Email this  |  Comments ...

The DJ Mobile was built by Dutch artist Olaf Mooij and looks like the lovechild of a subcompact that fucked a rocketship. The deafening piece was inspired by a song called "God is a DJ" and the Pope-mobile. I'd prefer the bulletproof bubble myself, but I have a lot of enemies. Unfortunately, the DJ mobile isn't meant to be used while driving, making it infinitely less cool than I originally imagined. Which, if you want to get all scientifical, wasn't even cool. Still, I would pour sugar in the gas tank. Hit the jump for several more pictures of the Eardrum popper. ...
