Forgetting to post the annual Town Meeting warrant is also complicating results from last week's election, when voters approved a new charter that dramatically changes town government. After the error forced selectmen to reschedule the annual Town Meeting last week, they said yesterday they also need the Legislature to give its special approval of the election results. State law requires the warrant for any annual Town Meeting and election to be posted at least seven days in advance, which never happened this spring. Officials realized the mistake in time to delay the Town Meeting from last night to June 2. But the May 5 election had already occurred, prompting selectmen to seek the Legislature's approval to certify the election's results despite the error so the election does not have to be held again. Selectmen Chairman Glenn Trindade said yesterday he believes the bill will easily pass in the Legislature. But selectmen first need town voters' permission to file the bill with the Legislature, and last night they placed an article on the June 2 special Town Meeting warrant for that approval. "This action has to take place in order to rectify this," Trindade said. The special Town Meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the high school, followed by the annual Town Meeting.
