Twin filmmakers Danny and Oxide Pang's creepy 2003 feature THE EYE earned them enough kudos to make the leap to Hollywood, and their first effort is the creepy chiller THE MESSENGERS. A Chicago-based family comprised of Roy (Dylan McDermott), his wife, Denise (Penelope Ann Miller), their teenage daughter, Jess (Kristen Stewart), and young son, Ben (played by twins Evan and Theodore Turner) try to put the hard times behind them with a move to a picturesque farmhouse in North Dakota. Jess quickly becomes convinced that the house is haunted after some peculiar occurrences while she's alone there with young Ben. But Ben can't articulate what he's seen, and Jess's story is met with skepticism by her parents. It soon becomes apparent that past family tensions are slowly boiling to the surface. Meanwhile, the ghosts keep coming, and the Pang brothers never keep their audience waiting for long before another nerve-jangling scene shudders into view. But as the ghosts torment their new residents, Jess does a little research on the old farmhouse and discovers a few secrets that may just hold the key to why this is all happening. Packed full of CGI effects and a few moments that may cause a jump or two, THE MESSENGERS is a horror movie aimed at a young audience and not horror aficionados, as indicated by its PG-13 rating. Filed under: Estates You probably are most familiar with Dylan McDermott for his role as Bobby Donnell, the lawyer with the righteous anger and beautiful blue bedroom eyes on "The Practice." For years McDermott and his beautiful wife Shiva Rose had one of Hollywood's more durable marriages. Now the couple has split and as Big Time Listings reveals their home is on the market. The couple purchased back in 1999 from Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas for $3.94 million and they had bought it in 1997 from Michelle Pfeiffer and David E. Kelly (the creator of "The Practice" and other shows). I'm guessing another Hollywood couple will fall for this one, it appeals to those with creative hearts. The 1920 Spanish style hacienda in Brentwood has four bedrooms, a two-story vaulted living room with a carved balcony, a den, and the "magical 2n story muse room" which looks to be a cool place for hanging out and communing with the gods on inspiration. The home's details are what inspire envy, plenty of carved wood, original fireplaces, stenciled details and a rather romantic vintage style. The .68 acre lot has a pool/spa area that overlooks the Riviera hills, a courtyard and fountain, and a beautiful 250-year-old oak tree, The listing says it was one of the first homes built in the area and it is a classic. I was just browsing one of my favorite theater news-related sites Theatermania.com and saw that the upcoming season of Playwrights Horizons sounds fabulous! Not to say that most of their seasons don't -- they really know what's up when it comes to quality stage productions such as Grey Gardens which was transferred to Broadway after opening at Horizons two years ago. Opening in November the legendary Victoria Clark ( Light in the Piazza , Encores! production of Follies ), Jonathan Groff and Skip Sudduth will star in Craig Lucas 's new play Prayer for My Enemy which will be directed by the recent Tony-winner for the direction of South Pacific Bartlett Sher . Will be interesting to see these musical theater pros speaking instead of singing. The season opens on Aug. 22nd with a play called Three Changes starring small screen stars Dylan McDermott and Maura Tierney . On Sept. 25th Adam Rapp will be directing his new play Kindness starring Sam Waterston 's daughter Katherine Waterston . In February stage and film character actress extraordinaire Dana Ivey will star in The Savannah Disputation directed by Tony winner (for his direction of the revival of Chicago ) and all-around Broadway success story Walter Bobbie .
