Tropical Storm Hanna weakened slightly as it swirled toward the Turks and Caicos Islands and southeastern Bahamas on Sunday. Hanna wandered with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. It’s expected to drift west slowly until Wednesday, when it should take a turn to the north and intensify into a hurricane. Most computer forecasting models expect Hanna to parallel the coast before coming ashore in North Carolina late in the week. That would mean the South Carolina coast would get a couple of days of strong winds and high surf. But five-day forecasts often are off by hundreds of miles, and the slightest of changes in the hurricane track could mean Hanna hits South Carolina as a Category 1 hurricane with 80-mph winds.
