Chris Simms is back in the NFL. Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher told reporters Tuesday night that Simms had agreed to a deal to serve as the backup to Kerry Collins. Titans starting quarterback Vince Young could miss four to six weeks with a sprained ligament in his knee. What significant moves were made during the offseason? The Bulls entered the offseason after an incredibly disappointing campagin with many speculating that there'd be significant changes in the roster, already overhauled a couple months prior with the trade of Ben Wallace and Joe Smith netting Drew Gooden and Larry Hughes. The first major goal of the summer was to get a new coach. Scott Skiles had been fired the previous Christmas Eve, and his bumbling apprentice Jim Boylan was let go after his interim tenure completed at the end of the season. The Bulls 'process' to find a new coach ranged from confusing to embarrassing, with countless candidates interviewed over the course of several weeks, including two high-profile near-hires in Mike D'Antoni and Doug Collins, who both pulled out of the running after reports of a done deal had surfaced. Terry McCormick is reporting that Chris Simms is expected to come to Nashville tonight and work out for the Titans tomorrow. McCormick also speculates that Simms is the frontrunner to be added to the Titans roster. One interesting note from the article is that the Chiefs worked Simms out but decided to sign Ingle Martin instead. It is good they are giving Simms a look. He is a better option than Joey Harrington, Quinn Gray, and Doug Johnson, all of whom the Titans took a look at today. Simms, if signed, will back up Kerry Collins while Vince Young is out with the knee injury that we are still waiting to learn how long it will sideline him. ...

From Conestoga Park to the Fairgrounds in Ordway, vendors and mud-racers alike enjoyed Oktoberfest. Smoked turkey legs, brats, bier-rocks, corn on the cob, kraut. potato salad and German chocolate cake were served to an anticipating crowd as a jumping house was set up for children. An Ordway Fire Department truck was on hand, with a quilt created by Carrie Collins draped over the side. Collins began creating the quilt the last day of school in the Spring, and finished it the beginning of Crowley County Days. "When you make something like that, it's really had to part with," she said. Collins likes to think of the quilt as "the thread that binds," bringing the communities of Crowley County together. The Ordway fire in April, cost two firefighters their lives, she said, and she hopes if her children become fire fighters, they will look back on the quilt as something she made and realize why she did it. "I hope we have a younger generation understand what it meant and what it was for all of us," she said. At 5 p.m. the festivities moved to the fairgrounds, where the mud-racing took place. Fans gathered on the bleachers and under tents to watch the vehicles try and make it through the mud, laughing and applauding as each mud-racer made the trip through. Seth Salzbrenner and Shawn Gray tried to go through the course backwards, while Thomas and Amanda Sisneros broke the front axle on their truck, requiring a tow out of the mud. Doug Ra ...
