(St. Louis, Mo.) - Despite holding a slight edge on the stat sheet the Missouri S&T Lady Miners had its two game winning streak snapped by Missouri-St. Louis, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Don Dallas Field in St. Louis. The first half ended in a scoreless draw but the Lady Miners (5-5-1, 2-4-1 GLVC) had the better of the scoring chances. S&T's best chance came 10 minutes into the contest when Brooke Ryan ran onto a ball in the box and tried to chip it over the keeper but knocked it over the top of the goal instead. The Lady Miners kept applying the pressure in the opening frame getting five more shots, two of which were on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net. UMSL (4-5-1, 4-1-1 GLVC) had a chance of its own late in the stanza that hit off the crossbar. S&T finished the half outshooting the Tritons 6-2. The second half was a different story with UMSL holding the edge getting on the board almost six minutes in on a goal from Maggie Gabris from the left wing that just eluded Stacey Luquette. The Lady Miners had a shot at tying the game in the 58th minute but Marci Byrd's shot was saved by the keeper. They had another chance almost 15 minutes later but Paige Smothers shot was high. The Tritons scored again in the 81st minute when Anne Weaver took a shot from the left side five yards out and tucked it inside the right pocket. S&T had one more crack at getting on the board in the 89th minute but Leah Williams shot was high. The L ...

By Don Williams | AVALANCHE-JOURNAL MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Midwestern welcome Texas Tech players received as they entered Bill Snyder Family Stadium was both trite and surly. via assets.espn.go.com Double-T Nation News: So much information this morning. Here's my schedule: get up at 4:30 a.m. and start working on this morning's notes; post notes; post post-game quotes; work on report card; go to church; wife goes to the grocery store and I get 1 hour of quiet-time to work on grades and around the Big 12; post grades; post around the Big 12. I'm not sure when all of this will take place, but it will happen today. Texas Tech Football: I'll start with LAJ's Don Williams editorial about how Texas Tech's victory may have silenced, at least for now, Texas Tech's critics . Here's Williams: There was a time when opening conference play against Kansas State, Nebraska and Texas A&M would have been grounds for a call to the league office, raising cane about unfair treatment. That was the 1990s. Now it means, by coincidence, the Raiders open conference play with three straight weeks against programs in transition. Kansas State under a third-year coach is followed by Nebraska and Texas A&M under first-year coaches. Tech, which has been able to perfect a certain way of doing things over nine years, should demolish both. Captain Leach says that a road win, in the Big 12, is a big win: "A road win in the Big 12, that’s a big win," Leach said. "They’re all big, especially against a team that’s as explosive on offense as they are and as good on offense as they are. I thought our defense, once they got rolling - after we ...

Your Newest Warrior Point Guard Challenged Warriors Bring in Dickau Matt Steinetz, Golden State Warriors Examiner If you’re looking for a sign the Warriors ’ point guard position is anything but settled, proof was walking around the practice facility with a ball under his arm on Wednesday. Dan Dickau was in the house. Dickau has played for six NBA teams and was just released on Monday by Air Avellino, an Italian team that plays in the Euroleague.   More Warriors articles after the jump...     Fewer Pounds, More Minutes Janny Hu, San Francisco Chronicle "It was a challenge," Harrington said. "It's something I Don't want to have to go through this year. I just want to be on the court and play more consistent minutes, and I think I did everything I was supposed to (do) to make sure that happens." Harrington, whose unhappiness has led to plenty of trade speculation over the past year, said summer talks with vice president Chris Mullin have renewed his optimism for being an effective and key player for the Warriors this season.   It's Watson at Point Guard...For Now Marcus Thompson II, Contra Costa Times If the season started today, Warriors coach Don Nelson said it would be C.J. Watson — not Marcus Williams — facing off against New Orleans Hornets All-Star point guard Chris Paul. "It's C.J.'s job right now to lose," Nelson said after Wednesday's practice. "From what I've seen in this camp so far, he's done the best job. I see all thre ...

Double-T Nation News: Sometime this week, DTN passed 500,000 page views . The last time I mentioned DTN's stats, we had just passed 200,000 unique visitors and now DTN is inching up on 300,000 unique visitors.  I should also mention that DTN had it's best month evah in September, despite a painfully slow bye week . The long and short of it is that the DTN community is growing by leaps and bounds and I cannot thank you enough for your continued support. DTN was mentioned in NY Times college sports blog, The Quad in their preview of Texas Tech vs. Kansas State . Their preview does mention that the announcing crew is Ron Franklin, Ed Cunningham and Jack Arute, which is fine by me. I like listening to Ron Franklin. Texas Tech Football: LAJ's Don Williams says that it is rare that K-State open at home in the Big 12, while Texas Tech hasn't had an open date since 2004 . Captain Leach thinks that this team got better over the bye week: "I thought we got better in the off week," Leach said Thursday, "and then I thought we (practiced) well this week. We had pretty good preparation. Now we just need to keep it rolling." Meanwhile, safety Darcel McBath remembers the last time Texas Tech was ranked so high: "I know last time we were ranked this high, we went and dropped a bomb against Texas my freshman year," safety Darcel McBath said. "I Don’t remember how high we were ranked, but we kind of took it in too much, were reading too many newspap ...

Double-T Nation News: If you're going to the game, bring a rain jacket, the latest weather report says that there's a 40% chance of rain on Saturday . Can someone please do something about this? Texas Tech Football: LAJ's Don Williams writes that the defensive line is playing a key role in Texas Tech's success . Here's defensive line coach Charlie Sadler on his group: "We’re experienced and solid across the board, and we’ve got some depth that we haven’t had," said Sadler, who is in his sixth season at Tech. "It’s certainly the best overall defensive line that we’ve had since I’ve been here." The LAJ guys, Zach Long, Don Williams and Adam Zuvanich, also have video previews of the Nebraska game and video reviews of last week in the Big 12 and the Kansas State game . DT's Alex Ybarra writes that Nebraska's head coach, Bo Pelini, is still searching for answers from his team : "I think we're still trying to find out some about our personnel and what is best for this group as far as giving our guys the best opportunity to have success," he said during his weekly press conference Tuesday. "Some of that is personnel oriented, some of that is philosophical. You can't always try to pound a square peg into a round hole. You've got to evaluate, look at your personnel and what they do best and put them in positions to have success. You have to adjust as you go along. That's offensively, defensively and special teams." Defensive coordinator R ...

BY Don Williams AVALANCHE-JOURNAL To hear Texas Tech safety Darcel McBath tell it, the Red Raiders took nothing for granted this week. Just to be safe, instead of preparing for the current, struggling Nebraska team, they got ready for the Tom Osborne-era, Tommie Frazier-led, Herbie-is-your-worst-nightmare Cornhuskers. That sounded like the plan anyway. “This could be the week they put [...] ...
