Don Felder is an American rock musician, best known as guitarist for The Eagles from 1974-1980 as well as from 1994-2001, and for the distinctive “Hotel California” guitar solo. Felder was good friends with guitar legend Duane Allman. It was Allman who taught Felder how to play slide guitar, a trait that would impress [...] ...

Howard Stern spoke to ex-Eagles Don Felder this morning about his book, ''Heaven and Hell: My Life in the Eagles (1974-2001).'' Apparently, Felder contends that his bandmates were angry, competitive and egomaniacal, and everyone did a lot of drugs and banged a lot of you-know-whats. Drums, yeah, drums. That's the ticket. And he once thought Keith Richards was dead. Well, who hasn't? How is this news? And yes, the band did try to stop the book from being published. But why bother? Anyway, here are snippets of the on-air conversation taken from the Howard Stern official transcribed interviews website (click here for the full transcript). Howard told Don that he remembers Don telling Joe Walsh something at a concert one time that made him crack up. Don said that they used to do drugs back then and if they had a little crystal meth on your nose you'd say ''you're showing.'' Howard asked Don if he was out on the road cheating while his wife was home with their kid. Don said that he had a really religious upbringing and he was dragged into drugs and promiscuity. He said that he didn't get addicted to drugs but did his fair share of them. He did cocaine and some other stuff like that. He said that everyone was high back then though. Want more about Don's wild Eagle days? And see what Felder used to look like back then? Keep reading...Howard said that it must have been wild being in the Eagles. Don said that when he joined they weren't t ...

When the four principals in the Eagles took the stage at the Scottrade Center last night, they were bedecked in dark gray suits, white dress shirts and thin black ties, all strategically loosened at the collar. The sartorial choice was a slick one – it was hard to tell if they were paying homage to Reservoir Dogs or claiming their spot as their generation’s Rat Pack. It’s closer to the truth to say that the quartet – Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit – looked and acted like businessmen. That’s not a bad thing – when the premium tickets cost $185, you expect some professionalism and efficiency. That these men look like CEOs at the end of a long board meeting is fitting, all things considered. While it would be easy to dwell on the more business-like aspects of the current incarnation of the Eagles – the aforementioned ticket prices, the litigation that that resulted from Don Felder’s exit from the band , the decision to initially sell last year’s double-disc Long Walk out of Eden exclusively at Wal-Mart – it’s safe to say that the crowd got exactly what they bargained for. The Eagles' deep catalog and new songs (along with a few solo numbers from Henley and Walsh) made for a well-paced show that showcased what made the band such superstars to begin with – unbeatable harmonies, country-flecked story-songs and plenty of hot guitar action. Backed by a drummer/percussionist, guitarist and three (three!) keyboardi ...

It looks like Joe Walsh saved another Eagles concert with his superior solo material! How can a jam like "Funk No. 49" not bring down the house? I know that the Eagles aren't popular around these parts, but I count myself as something of a fan, despite my best instincts. I get it: they represent the milquetoast lowest common denominator corporate rock of the 70s. All I'm sayin' is that whenever I do "Take It Easy" at karaoke, it kills. People groan at the beginning, but are on board by the end. (For future reference, my other karaoke jam is "Glycerine" by Bush. Or whatever New Order/Erasure/Depeche Mode songs are in the book.) I think the reason I give the Eagles a pass is Joe Walsh. He doesn't fit. Don Felder fits. Timothy B. Schmit fits, despite his high-pitched voice. But Joe Walsh...I always got a sense that he was hanging out with those dudes because it was a good paying gig. He knew he could go solo again at any time, but why bother? It would be too much of a headache. Mama Walsh didn't raise no fool. Don't rock the boat. Don't hop off the gravy train. Get paid. You know you can smoke all of them on guitar. You're the rocker of the band. Those guys Don't deserve you. But you know what? Joe Walsh songs with the Eagles sound like Joe Walsh songs with the James Gang sound like Joe Walsh songs solo. Do you want to be a member of the Eagles, who can still sell 7 million records, or do you want to be the next Boz Scaggs? To parap ...

Don Felder, who’ll appear at the Highlands Ranch Tattered Cover on Tuesday, August 12 (click here to learn more), is one of the lesser-known members of the Eagles, but hardly an inconsequential one. He wrote the lion’s share of a little ditty called “Hotel California,” for instance. But he was fired from the band in 2001 after asking too many questions about financial matters – a move to which he responded with a big ol’ lawsuit. The settlement he reached forbids him from publicly discussing the deal’s terms, but that didn’t stop him from writing a book called Heaven and Hell: My Life in The Eagles (1974-2001) – and neither did it prevent him from discussing it in tremendous detail in the jumbo Q&A below. ...

"Classic" Rocker ...for another memorable Keel-Felder Golf weekend. A total of £33,060 was raised to benefit the Christies cancer center. In addition to the day's round of (scuba-)golf, the evening included some great entertainment. We particularly enjoyed Don accompanying Tim Healy's vocal on "Desperado." Once again, Don was gracious enough to allow himself to be filmed for golf-educational purposes. Joe B's annual video has been edited into bite-sized pieces and posted over on the 2008 Classic page. We've also added a few images from the gala dinner. ...

Once again, Carden Park will be the setting for this year's annual Howard Keel-Don Felder Golf Classic coming up on Sunday, September 7th. The event's golf tournament pairs up sponsored amateur players and celebrities from sport and entertainment for a day on the course, with the focus on fun and the proceeds benefitting the Christies Hospital cancer center in Manchester. In addition to the golf, a traditional benefit auction and gala dinner-cabaret top off the day's activities. Spectators are welcome to come out and enjoy the golf, chat with the participants and perhaps get an autograph or two from a favorite football player or television personality. Greg Morton is looking forward to returning with his band to support Don musically and if last year's show was any indication, there should be some great post-game entertainment in store for the sponsors and their guests. Check the Classics page over the next few days for visitor information and once things get underway, live quotes and visuals direct from the venue! ...

Yes, it's probably one of the most overplayed songs in both the Arrow 's and K-Hits ' libraries, but the Eagles' "Hotel California" deserves to be. Written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey and Don Felder (who was fired from the Eagles in 2001), the title song to the band's 1976 album captures the creeping dread, substance-driven burnout and growing malaise that characterized so much of America (and especially California) in its bicentennial year like none other. More than three decades later, the song - 1977 Grammy winner for Record of the Year - has lost none of its forlorn potency or haunting beauty; it's said to be part of the repertoire of this fall's Guitar Hero: World Tour . Not surprisingly, it's been covered many, many times. First we'll hear from Nigerian-born reggae mon Majek Fashek , who recorded it for 1998 Tuff Gong compilation Tuff Tracks : Here's Scottish trio Alabama 3 's, best known for Sopranos theme song "Woke Up This Morning," techno-country take from 2000's La Peste : Who else has checked in any time they liked?
