The Associated Press NAHA, Japan — At a Zen Buddhist Temple in southern Japan, even the Dog Prays. Mimicking his master, priest Joei Yoshikuni, a 1 1/2-year-old black-and-white Chihuahua named Conan joins in the daily prayers at Naha's Shuri Kannondo Temple, sitting up on his hind legs and putting his front paws together before the altar. It took him only a few days to learn the motions, and now he is the talk of the town. "Word has spread, and we are getting a lot more tourists," Yoshikuni said Monday. Yoshikuni said Conan generally goes through his prayer routine at the Temple in the capital of Japan's southern Okinawa prefecture (state) without prompting before his morning and evening meals. "I think he saw me doing it all the time and got the idea to do it too," Yoshikuni said. The priest is now trying to teach him how to meditate. Well, sort of. "Basically, I am just trying to get him to sit still while I meditate," he explained. "It's not like we can make him cross his legs." James : I adore dogs. They are so innocent, full of unconditional love and joyful to be around. This one seems to be preparing for rebirth as a human and perhaps a monk. :) I'm sure that this little doggie doesn't understand what he is doing but I'm sure that he feels the peaceful energy surrounding him that helps him feel content, peaceful and calm. He has Buddha nature as any other living entity and is ou ...

Don't peek and have fun! 1. Buddhist Dog Prays for worldly desires Buddhists clasp their palms together to pray for enlightenment, but Conan, a Chihuahua, appears to have more worldly motivations. The Dog has become a popular attraction at a Japanese Temple after learning to imitate the worshippers around him. "Clasping hands is a basic action of Buddhist prayer to show appreciation. He may be showing his thanks for treats and walks," said Joei Yoshikuni, a priest at Jigenin Temple on the southern island of Okinawa. 2. Gophers notch a win in man-rodent battle A war on gophers waged by two Canadian men went awry this weekend when a device used to blast the rodents in their holes sparked a massive grass fire in a rural area near Calgary, Alberta, causing more than $197,000 in damages. Despite a ban on fires in the tinder-dry area of Springbank, two men went into a field to kill gophers using a device called a Rodenator, fire officials said on Monday. The resulting grass fire scorched about 160 acres of surrounding property and destroyed a number of outbuildings. 3. Teens stranded in desert after fleeing busted rave Kern County Sheriff's deputies rescued four teenagers who had been stranded for days in the Mojave Desert after they ...

LOVE IT!. check this story out: "Dog 'Prays' at Japanese Zen Temple" I am off work today. So instead of one blog story (and the fact that I feel bored), I thought I'd do a "day in the life" today. Exciting yes?! Hubby is out of town so I had to make my own cappuccino this morning. TRAVESTY! I know. The day started with me waking up and thinking of this (from "The Infinite Way" by Joel Goldsmith): "On awakening in the morning, and preferably before you get out of bed (I like that part), turn your thought to the realization that "I and my Father are one... Son... all that I have is thine... The place whereon thou standest is holy ground"; and then let the meaning of these statements unfold from within your own consciouness. Gain a conviction of your oneness with the Father, with the universal Life, the universal Consciousness. Feel the infinity of good within you which is the evidence of your oness with the infinite Source of your being." Hummm.. now that I write that I think I may need to do it again :).. I still tend to think God is "out there" instead of within. It follows with "As soon as you begin to feel a stirring within you, a sense of peace, or the surge of divine Life, then get out of bed and make your physical preparations for the day. Before leaving your home, sit down and ponder your oneness with God." Gosh I think I mainly pondered which meeting to go to today or what "thing" should I d ...
