Oh, there is no justice. God needs to take a hand in this." Co-host Tom Benner, known as "Officer Vic," agreed and added: "Even things out. Wait, that's socialism, I'm sorry. Forget it." The Wellington Noon Lions Club will be holding its first International hot Dog buffet and hot Dog Eating Contest from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Knights of Columbus building. Member Tytus Cornejo said the hot Dog benefit will go to the Wellington Lions Club Babe Ruth team and the Babe Ruth league. The idea for the event, said Cornejo, “just made sense.” “Nothing goes with baseball like a hot Dog.” he said. Those wanting to chow down will only have to pay a donation of any amount to gain entry to the more than half a dozen stations for hot dogs. Each station will feature a different type of hot Dog, said Cornejo, with styles from New York, Chicago, and Coney Island being the highlights of the evening. Though food always draws a crowd, Cornejo says an element of fun will add to the event. A coach, player, and member of the Noon Lions Club will square off in a hot Dog Eating Contest to see who has the niftiest nosh gnaw. Though the coach and player are still to be determined, Cornejo says Noon Lions Club member Robert Mandeville will be the first to attempt a record. The 3-year-old golden retriever recently took second place in the kid-handler division of the Ultimate Air Dogs competition at the National Cheery Festival in Traverse City, Mich. Ultimate Air Dogs is one of the premier Dog jumping organizations in the country, drawing spectators from far and wide. Similar to a state fair, the festival offered many other fun activities, including rides and a cherry pie-Eating Contest. About 100 dogs, representing many breeds, competed in several categories, including older dogs and small dogs. The fair-haired pooch Lacey, a first-time entrant, had already proven herself a good jumper. "While vacationing in Michigan, the kids had fun throwing the ball and watching Lacey leap out into the water from the dock to retrieve the ball," said proud owner Ann Jacobs of Weston, mother of Will, 14, and Matt, 12. "We thought she could enter because she loves jumping out into the water." At the competition, Matt held the canine at the beginning of the ramp. Once Will threw what looked like an oblong-shaped tennis ball, Lacy ran down the ramp and retrieved the toy from a 43,000 gallon above-ground pool. In the first round, Lacey jumped 15 feet, 8 inches. The installation, just steps from the location of the famous annual July 4 hot Dog Eating Contest and the Cyclone roller coaster, depicts robots - one as a guard, one as a detainee - in a scene not meant for the faint of heart. At the "Waterboard Thrill Ride," visitors pay a buck to look through a barred window while a hooded robot pours water into the face of an orange jumpsuit-wearing robot, who goes into a series of violent convulsions for 15 seconds. "Robot waterboarding became a way of exploring the issue without doing any harm," artist Steve Powers told the New York Times. "It's putting a unique experience on the table.
