The world of Rock ‘n’ Roll was full of Little Sixteens, Suzie Qs, Pretty Things, Donnas, Bette Jeans, Little Queenies, Peggy Sues or Lucillas. Rock ‘n’ Roll was mainly a male business and you could find women only in song titles and in the audience – but not on stage. Well, maybe as background singers, [...] ...

In the recent entry Bo Diddley And His Women I wrote about some of the female musicians Bo Diddley worked with. The article Who Do You Love? by Ned Sublette mentions his collaborations with women: At a time when black men were not allowed overt expressions of sexuality in mainstream popular music, Bo Diddley, like his [...] ...

Totally almost worth it, slogging through another miserable episode of the single most overrated pop-culture entity in American history, just to get to the last 30 seconds here, wherein Lil Wayne actually deigns to play the kelly-green guitar strapped to his back, a hilariously dainty fingertapping display that's easily the funniest thing this goddamn show has offered us since Sprockets . And you thought Madonna tried to play guitar every once in a while for visual effect. But this, of course, was fantastic, and should thus be a mandatory part of any TV performance for a half-year at least, whether it involve My Morning Jacket, Miley Cyrus, Nas, the London Philharmonic, whoever. This is our generation's version of the Bo Diddley beat. Let its influence spread far and wide. ...

Strings -- Arnold Dreyblatt once released a CD called The Sound of One String , and, if single stringed instruments didn't get their start with Dreyblatt (the Japanese ichigenkin and the American Diddley bow spring to mind as antecedents), he did give them an extreme makeover. But Dreyblatt has more than one string up his sleeve. A master of minimalism who constructs his instruments from scratch, tonight Dreyblatt leads an entire Orchestra of Excited Strings. Megafaun and Melissa St. Pierre open. Middle East Upstairs, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 9 p.m. $9. Skronks -- Known for his stage make-up and his temper—he once kicked saxophone master Ken Vandermark out of his band—Weasel Walter still makes free noise death jazz like it is 1996. Playing in a quartet, with White Mice and Big Disappointments opening. Church, 69 Kilmarnock St., Fenway, 9 p.m. Pop -- Jackson Browne might still be running on empty, especially with gas prices these days. Join the long-running rock favorite at the Orpheum, 1 Hamilton Place, 7:30pm. (KS) -- The Dandy Warhols will not pass out bananas as they play upbeat rock tonight. Featuring Darker My Love. Wilbur Theatre, 106 Boylston, 7:30pm. (KS) Kerry Skemp contributed to this post. Image of Arnold Dreyblatt from his website . ...

I just woke up and read an email from my mom who joined my sister and niece at the Springsteen concert in Philly last night. Besides my mom being in her 70s, she was also a Hillary supporter as was my sister. (We honored the time tested family tradition of pretending like it wasn't an issue and dodged the subject. Well, there was that one barn burner.) More from the Philly Inquirer : Springsteen referred to America as "a repository of hope" and "a house of dreams" in an impressively articulate speech that preceded "The Rising." That dream house, he declared, "can't be pulled down by a thousand George Bushes or a thousand Dick Cheneys." And it provided Springsteen with a reclamation metaphor he artfully meshed with the 9/11-inspired "The Rising" and "This Land Is Your Land," the latter infused with a Bo Diddley-beat-powered "Yes we can" chant. "I want my house back," Springsteen declared. "I want my America back, and I want my country back." ...

As we continue to remind everyone when we write about Wall Street, we don’t know Diddley about finance.
