The Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos have a rivalry that dates back to the earliest days of the AFL despite Lane Kiffin’s protestations to the contrary. The Broncos and Raiders have combined for over two thirds of the AFC west titles since the merger in 1970, and this game begins both teams quest to pad [...] ...

For a look at the game from the Raiders view, check out SilverandBlackPride For the first time in seven years, the Denver Broncos will open their season on Monday Night Football when they face the Oakland Raiders this week at McAfee Coliseum. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. PDT, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN as well as locally on KDVR-TV FOX 31. The Broncos, whose 17-year streak of appearing on Monday Night Football represents the longest such streak in the NFL, look to begin the campaign with a win in their first AFC West contest of the year for the ninth consecutive season. The first part of the season is a key stretch for Denver with the club facing divisional opponents in three of the first four weeks. The Broncos play their first two games (at Oak., vs. S.D.) of the year against divisional foes for the first time in 11 seasons (1997) and only the sixth time in club history. Denver, which finished the 2007 season with a 7-9 record before posting a 2-2 mark this preseason, faces a Raiders squad that was 4-12 last year and 1-3 in the preseason. The two clubs split the 2007 series, but the Broncos have had recent success against Oakland, posting an 8-2 record against the franchise since 2003. In the preseason, the Broncos' offense averaged 76.9 yards on its eight touchdown drives while ranking fifth in the league in both yards per play (5.4) and points per game (22.8). Quarterback Jay Cutler led Denver to points ...

For a look at the game from the Raiders view, check out SilverandBlackPride HEAD COACH MIKE SHANAHAN On the first week of the regular season -- "It's enjoyable. You look forward to it ever year. We have been working throughout the offseason-obviously the OTAs, summer camp. We have gotten a chance to see our team in live situations. We have a lot of young players playing on Monday night, and I'm looking forward to it." On whether playing without WR Brandon Marshall will change the game plan against the Raiders -- "I don't think Brandon will dictate the (complexity) of our game plan. We have some young players, so it might not be as deep as it normally is, but we have enough to show up and play." On Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell -- "He hasn't played a lot, so we haven't seen a lot of him. We have watched a lot (of him) on film. He has played in one game as a starter and played in four other games. Like all other young quarterbacks, it's a growing process. You know how talented he is, being the first pick in the draft. Everybody knows his size, his arm strength and him being a No. 1 pick. So he has a big, big upside and he has a good supporting cast around him. "He was practicing the whole season, so that is sometimes better than playing-you get some good reps in practice and a chance to grow with an offensive system. He played enough to feel, I would think, somewhat confident in the offensive system, and he played extremely well in hi ...

via ecx.images-amazon.com Back in July, I had posted an item about the DVD set that was about to be released featuring the Broncos "3 Greatest Games." I received my DVDs from Amazon last week and figured I should pass along my impressions after having watched one of the discs. The set features 3 discs, each of which is the complete game broadcast of 1. 1977 AFC Championship vs. Oakland 2. SB XXXII 3. SB XXXIII I am still incredibly irritated that the set does not feature many of the games that will maintain a place in my heart forever, such as The Drive, The Fumble, The Drive II vs. the Oilers, The Revenge Tour of January '98 or TD's 42-carry performance against the Bills or about 50 of Elway's other mind-boggling games. However, I will set those feelings aside and try to give you my impressions on what's there. I watched the second disc yesterday, as it was naturally my fondest memory as a Broncos fan. Hopefully, I will get to the other discs soon...but what I have to say about Disc 2 surely applies to the others. 1. The ability to watch every play from start to finish on a DVD is something I have been hoping for for quite some time, and in that sense it did not disappoint. Even though I knew the result, it was still a pretty nerve-racking and emotional experience. I know not all of you will feel quite this way, but I couldn't help but get a little teary watching as Mobley knocked down that final 4th-and-6 pass from Favre. 2. The ...

I wrote this quite some time ago when I was bored.  This was long before any roster cuts and even BMarsh's suspension.  I thought I had deleted it, but I saw it was still a draft and in light of Saint's crap talkin', I thought I would issue my own beat down of the Fader Nation.  I named it Virtual Outcomes because everything was made up in my mind and has nothing to do with reality really.  Like I said, I was bored one day and travelling out of town for work, sitting in my hotel room with nothing to watch on television.  Here is the result of that.  lol Virtual Outcomes is all about possibilities.  Call it satire, call it delusional, call it accurate, call it whatever you want; the idea is to give people a glimpse of what could happen.  I enjoy this sort of mind game and I didn't use anything like Madden or anything else other than my own brain and imagination to come to the conclusions I've come to. Monday Night Football in the Black Hole. The Denver Broncos at the Oakland Raiders : As the crowd starts to roar, it is finally here.  Week 1 of the NFL football season.  It is Monday Night Football .  The Oakland Raiders and the Denver Broncos walk onto the field for the opening coin toss.  The Raiders win the toss and elect to receive the opening kick off.  Darren McFadden returns the kick to the 30 yard line of Oakland and out comes JaMarcus Russell and the hated Raiders.  Russell and the Raiders score a quick first down after a ru ...

Broncos Receive 7th Round Pick, Could Become 6th Rounder It's being reported on several news outlets that the Broncos have traded Domonique Foxworth to the Atlanta Falcons for a 7th Round draft pick.  Since Foxy is in the last year of his contract, the Broncos would receive a 6th Round pick should the Falcons resign him. I know there is going to be alot of disdain for this trade.  I'll be back to add my thoughts. Poll Do You Agree With The Domonique Foxworth Trade? Yes No   33 votes | Results ...

A two-year starter at Arizona State, Barrett attended Reno High School in Reno, Nev., and was born on Nov. 22, 1984. YOUR SOURCE FOR THE VERY BEST IN Denver BRONCO PRE-GAME ANALYSIS  FROM MILEHIGHREPORT.COM How important is this game to the Broncos?  After all, this isn't a game against the Chargers for the title of AFC West best.  However, it is an important game in many, many ways. The winner is undefeated, the loser has to win two games in a row for a winning season. The game is a divisional pairing; crucial for playoff tie breaks. This is Monday Night Football; the big stage.  The confidence boost (or lag) could be a major factor going into the early season. For Denver fans, it doesn't get any better than this.  Denver playing in the opening MNF game against the hated Raiders.  Let's break down the Xs and Os, and take a look at how these teams match up. Read on... Introduction Denver is a team that struggled last year with injuries, an unusual system on defense, and (for Denver) uncharacteristic character problems.  They were coming off of a season that featured the murder of one up and coming star, the untimely death of another player (at a charity event, of all places), and a dramatic mid-season change in quarterbacks. Denver tried the new defensive system, and went on a spending spree by bringing in big name talents.  The system was a failure, and fans were caught off guard by "me first" players.  The Mastermind, Head Coach Shanahan, learned from his mistakes quickly.  The new defensive coordinator become the former defensive coordinator, ...

DT Alvin McKinley Released To Make Room The Denver Broncos on Tuesday signed guard Dylan Gandy and defensive tackle Josh Shaw, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. The club also on Tuesday released defensive tackle Alvin McKinley. Gandy (6-foot-3, 290 pounds) is a fourth-year player who rejoins the Broncos after he was released by the club on Saturday. Gandy, who originally joined the Broncos as a free agent on May 16, spent his first three professional seasons (2005-07) with Indianapolis after the Colts selected him in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft from Texas Tech University. He has played 42 career games (14 starts) in the regular season along with six career playoff games (1 start), including the Colts' victory in Super Bowl XLI during the 2006 season. In 2007, Gandy saw time in 10 games for Indianapolis and recorded one start at right guard. He appeared in all 16 regular-season games, starting a career-high 11 contests at left guard, for the Colts' Super Bowl XLI-champion team in 2006 that allowed an NFL-low 15 sacks. At Texas Tech, Gandy started 20 games during his four-year career and was an honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference choice as a senior. He attended Pflugerville High School in Pflugerville , Texas, and was born on March 8, 1982. Shaw (6-foot-3, 305 pounds) is a sixth -year player who joins the Broncos after spending the 2007 season with Oakland, which released him on Saturday. He also has ...
