As a reviewer bent on dissecting any important feature and function contained in Denon's new flagship AVR-5803CI receiver I had my work cut out for me. It didn't take long to realize that the best way to conduct this review would be to follow the same steps anyone would take when deciding how best to integrate this product into their listening room. The AVR-5308CI shares nearly all of the same features found on Denon's $7500 AVP-A1HDCI flagship processor. While it lacks the balanced circuitry design, class A audio drivers and several other upgrades which did actually show some measureable results, the AVR-5308CI sells for about $2,000 less than this preamp and has seven respectable built in power amplifiers, I’d say it makes it quite a bargain. ... Denon has announced the arrival of its latest range of luxury audio goods, the all-in-one CX1 stereo system. The CX1 system comprises a Super Audio CD receiver (the RCD-CX1) and a speaker system (SC-CX101). First up the SACD receiver is encased in aluminium housing, has a powerful amplifier circuit and is constructed to be vibration-resistant. This is due to the company's SVH (Super Vibration Hybrid) mechanism. Denon also uses AL24 Processing to enhance the sound of its receiver, that's compatible with SACDs, music CDs, rewriteable discs, MP3 and WMA audio tracks. Speaking of speakers The speakers in the speaker system are compiled of a 12cm woofer unit that contains newly developed glass fibre DDL cone and 2.5cm tweeters. This is all encased in a non-magnetic die-cast aluminium frame, which is finished off with wood-grain veneer cabinet. Sound-wise, you will get up to 150w out of these beauties. Rounding off the feature set, you will find a built-in radio tuner (non-digital) and a place to dock your iPod. This pricey set will set you back £1299 for the main RCD-CX1 unit and £599 for the SC-CX101 stereo speakers, when it is released at the end of this month. ...
Denon Electronics has announced that they will begin shipping a lower-cost Blu-ray Disc player next month. The new DVD-1800BD only supports Bonus-View (profile 1.1) and bitstream of all HD audio codec including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio but guess what. It is retailed at $749! But for that price, they will kindly throw in Burr-Brown DACs for two channel analog output. Nice! Are you kidding me? A Lower-cost, entry level features Blu-Ray Disc player but priced at $749? Without a superior DAC for full 7.1 channels and internal audio decoder, there is no reason to get a $749 Blu-Ray player that supports only HD audio bitstream. A cheaper and more feature equipped Sony S-350 or ps3 will do better. Remind me why I miss the Format War, the price was far more competitive.
