That right there is the third (or maybe fourth ?)-- and, we're assured, final-- cover for both the European CD and the U.S. CD release of Deerhunter 's forthcoming album Microcastle . But for the skull-eye, it could been a Smiths or Belle and Sebastian sleeve, right down to the salmon hue. Microcastle is out now digitally but due physically October 27 in Europe from 4AD and the next day in the States from Krank y . The Kranky vinyl edition of the disc will keep the cover from this story . We aren't exactly sure about the 4AD vinyl version, though. Got all that? In addition, it has been confirmed that both the U.S. and UK releases of Microcastle will include the bonus disc Weird Era Cont. , which you might be quite familiar with by now . The CD will be a 2XCD set and the vinyl will also include a CD. Tracklist below. Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound has a few more dates with Stereolab to attend to, and come Halloween, Deerhunter will pick up with Times New Viking and a rotating cast of characters for a lengthy fall tour. read more ...

Athens, Georgia zine fixture Chunklet will celebrate its 15th anniversary this fall, and they've got quite a few goodies and events going on to mark the occasion. The Chunklet Magazine 15th Anniversary Shindig Extravaganza Event will take place at Athens' 40 Watt Club on October 10 and 11. The first night will feature sets from Deerhunter, Twin Tigers, Gentleman Jesse & His Men, and comedian Brent Weinbach, and the next night's bill consists of Mastodon, It's Casual, and comedian Brian Posehn. Since Chunklet is, after all, in the publishing business, its anniversary will also be marked by the appearance of two publications: the magazine's 20th issue and a book by publisher Henry Owings called The Rock Bible: Unholy Scripture for Fans & Bands . Chunklet 20 ships on or around September 20. The issue includes interviews with Paul F. Tomkins, Zach Galifianakis, Jon Glaser, and the people behind the Sublime Frequencies label, plus stories about playing the glorious game of Whirlyball with the Arcade Fire, the Shins, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Lips, and Deerhunter. The Rock Bible follows via Quirk Books in October. The book is an irreverent look at music and the people who love and make it, containing oodles of rock-related histories, parables, and commandments (e.g. "A 'sellout' is someone making more money than you," and "Whatever you call what you're playing, it's neither jazz nor core."). In addition to Owings, the long list of ...

Yesterday, while I was listening to a stack of singles that I've been ignoring for awhile, I came across a track from Boston act The Dear Hunter . While the song wasn't bad, the entire time it was playing all I could think about was how at some point, there's going to be a conversation when I'm forced to distinguish between The Dear Hunter and Atlanta act Deerhunter . The similarity in names is too much for my brain—and, I suspect, the brains of other people out there—to handle, so one of the acts is going to have to change its name. Below the cut, my attempt to determine which act is going to be forced to rebrand their musical identity. Length of band's existence: This should be probably the primary determining factor, but I don't want to go just on longevity alone. What if the older band is awful? The Dear Hunter: 2005-Present Deerhunter: 2001-Present POINT: Deerhunter Snap aesthetic judgment based on the first thing that comes up on YouTube: Again, not exactly a fair way to judge things, but who wants to listen to entire discs of music to make a decision about whether an act is worth listening to? The album era is dead, man. The Dear Hunter, "Red Hands": Deerhunter, "Strange Lights" I don't know if I would describe myself as a fan of either song, particularly. However, the Deerhunter track is shorter, and doesn't include the lyric "I was pulling out my heart so I could pin it to my sleeve", which is just enough to pull off a w ...

Photo: Aaron Thackeray Deerhunter. Nine Inch Nails/Deerhunter Tuesday, September 2, 2008 Red Rocks Amphitheatre Better Than: The last time I saw NIN, when I was in the nosebleeds at the Pepsi Center and could barely hear. I arrived at Red Rocks last night under threatening skies (would any other sort be appropriate for a Nine Inch Nails show?) just in time to hear Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox greet the crowd, saying, “It’s great to be playing in this…canyon,” obviously unsure of what else to call it. The band began with an extended version of “Calvary Scars,” from its excellent new album, Microcastle , and from there proceeded to play a short but rewarding set drawing from that album, the Flourescent Grey EP and the second half of the outfit’s breakthrough, Cryptograms . The band seemed a bit stiff and unsure of itself for the first few songs, but once the members hit “Hazel St.,” they loosened up, dug into their effects pedals, and started to really fill up the venue. ...

There's oodles of goodness weeping in a melancholy like fashion from every pore of this stunning new album from Atlanta's Deerhunter. It's hard for me to pick an indie-tastic favourite but 'Never Stops' comes close, followed by 'Nothing Ever Happened'. I just love the intoxicatingly repetitive guitar riff throughout. It ties in so well with the breaks and the we don't give a fuck, pass the cigarettes and hard liquor attitude that seemed to be portrayed to me throughout. Whether this is accurate is another matter, but as a hopeless fantasist dropout I love music that lets my imagination run completely wild and 'Microcastle' does that so well, a bit like Film School do. 5/5 YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE: Film School Citizen Vain LISTEN: SEE: Nothing Ever Happened live: ...

Like kids dream of ice cream in 100 degree weather, all summer we've been dreaming of watching Deerhunter in a tiny, intimate opium den, heads back and drooling, sipping scotch on the rocks. We'd float along to the band's ethereal, ambient waking dream sounds, dripping with no wave guitar reverb and wind chimes, glazed with Bradford Cox whispered verse. The conscious melding with the unconscious. Well, lucky us, such dreams will turn into a half reality tonight when Deerhunter performs in petite "Le Poisson Rouge" in NYC. Now alls we need is the opium.............Till then, we're head-spinning to the track below. SOUNDS LIKE: Clinic, Panda Bear, Atlas Sound Download: Deerhunter - Little Kids Deerhunter @ Myspace ...

The show was at the Masquerade in Atlanta and it would later be infamously known as Sweatfest, for very good reason. Little did I know that what I witnessed there would become the phenomenon that is still [view more] ...

Deerhunter - Vox Humana This is one of my favourite tracks from Weird Era Cont., the ‘extra album’ recorded to accompany the physical release of Microcastle, both of which have suffered from well-publicised leaks over the summer.
