I can’t believe the hubris of some of the folks in Washington. David Vitter, for example, has asked the Federal Election Commission if he can use campaign funds to pay for the $137,177 in legal expenses he had incurred after it was revealed that he was involved in a high priced Washington D.C. prostitution ring. Vitter has paid $70,000 of the legal fees personally, and is asking that the money be re-imbursed through his campaign funds. His attorneys argue that Vitter’s involvement in the matter was predicated solely on his status as a United States Senator and that others involved were not dragged into the legal proceedings and did not incur the related legal fees. Vitter has $1.6 million in his campaign coffers. Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the D. C. Madam involved in the case, was convicted in federal court in April of money laundering, mail fraud and conspiracy. Palfrey committed suicide in May, two weeks after her conviction. She faced four to six years in federal prison. Summary By shades ... Source: thereductbox.disqus.com --- 46 days ago

Sens. Larry Craig (R-ID) and David Vitter (R-LA) have signed on as co-sponsors of S.J. Res. 43, the Marriage Protection Amendment - a bill that would amend the Constitution to declare that marriage “shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman.” Sen. Craig was arrested June 11, 2007 on charges of lewd conduct in a Minneapolis airport terminal and pled guilty. Sen. Vitter was on a list of clients of a prostitution firm owned by “The DC Madam,” Deborah Jeane Palfrey. This is the fourth attempt by Republicans during this Congress to legislate what they call “family values" with similar bills. ... Source: www.volconvo.com --- 26 days ago
This is either hypocrisy and stupidity at its most absurd level, or it's a huge cosmic joke on rationality and the proper role of government. Either way the very idea of this ought to be a "muahahaha" moment for everyone. Jerks on so many levels, these two. ---Quote--- Two United States Senators implicated in extramarital sexual activity have named themselves as co-sponsors of S. J. RES. 43, dubbed the Marriage Protection Amendment. If ratified, the bill would amend the United States Constitution to state that marriage "shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman." Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID), who was arrested June 11, 2007 on charges of lewd conduct in a Minneapolis airport terminal, is co-sponsoring the amendment along with Sen. David Vitter (R-LA). Craig, who entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct, was detained and charged for attempting to engage in sexual activity with a male undercover police officer. His arrest and plea became public two months later. At that time, Craig attempted to withdraw his plea and enter a new plea of not guilty. To date, his efforts have been denied by the courts. In July of 2007, Vitter was identified as a client of a prostitution firm owned by the late Deborah Jeane Palfrey, commonly known as The DC Madam. With a Democratic controlled Congress it is unlikely the bill will be brought up for a vote in either the Senate or House of Representatives. ---End Quote--- PageOneQ | ...

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, nicknamed the "D.C. Madam" for her operation of a high-end prostitution ring thinly disguised as an escort service, has reportedly committed suicide. WTVT/13 reports that Palfrey's body was found at her mother's residence in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Palfrey had recently been convicted on federal charges including money laundering and racketeering but was not charged directly with the operation of the prostitution ring itself. While many of the college-educated female "employees" of the operation had their identities revealed, few of the male clients' identities were made public. ---- What's left in the wake of this tragedy is just the sense that so many people wasted their collective intelligence and time in this affair, Palfrey in organizing the ring, the young women for being employed in it, the male clients in its usage, the federal prosecutors for pursuing over the top charges and the gossip writers in over the top scandal mongering. We will all pause today to reflect on this tragedy. And tomorrow or perhaps the day after that, we will start the same pattern over again with new players in a new game. We will have learned nothing. ---- Relevant links: WTVT/13 , Washington Post ... Source: susiebright.blogs.com --- 79 days ago

Deborah Jean Palfrey, recently convicted for her role as the head of a Washington DC escort agency, has committed suicide, police say. Often referred to as "the DC Madam," Deborah Palfrey was found dead in a shed next to her mother's mobile home in Florida. She was convicted, April 15, 2008, of running a prostitution ring, money laundering, and mail fraud. Palfrey's "escort agency" was used by a number of senior US officials. The case became famous because of several prominent officials - including Senator David Vitter - who had used the agency. Vitter, a Republican Senator from Louisiana who is married with four children, faced calls to resign when details of his dealings with the escort agency first emerged. The senator apologized for what he described as a "very serious sin", but refused to comment further. Other patrons of the agency - known as Pamela Martin and Associates (1993 - 2006) - included Nasa officials, top military officers, World Bank and International Monetary Fund executives, as well as the head of the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Randall Tobias, who stepped down after being named as a client. Deborah Palfrey maintained that she had no knowledge of her escorts engaging in sex acts with their clients. But, on April 15th, after hearing testimony from a number of the agency's former employees and clients, a federal jury found her guilty on all counts. She was facing a 55-year prison term, but was fr ... Find more results for Deborah Jeane Palfrey on RSSMicro.com |
