DeShawn Stevenson aka The Lock Smith was involved in various "incidents" during the course of the past year. Some funny, some distracting.....but the guy still turned in the best season of his career. What does the future hold for this Washington Wizard? Better shooting, I hope. truthaboutit posted 26 hours ago from www.truthaboutit.net [link] Find more top sports news, videos, and blogs on BallHype: NBA , DeShawn Stevenson , Washington Wizards , Gilbert Arenas , Ricky Davis , Caron Butler , Milwaukee Bucks ...

The biggest question that everyone should be asking is ho ...

Utah has the 23rd pick this year. The last time they had "lucky" #23, a high schooler named DeShawn landed in their lap. While the Jazz haven't always been lucky when dealing with the number 23 , GM Kevin O'Conner hopes this draft trend continues. http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,700237416,00.html?pg=1 ...

D.C. Fab photo, showing a celebrity Wizards basketball team that included T.O., Fred Smoot, Vernon Davis and Kenyon Martin. Remember when I wrote about that charity basketball game featuring the most bloggable list of athletes I've ever seen? Well, it was Saturday. Some of the headliners--Clinton Portis, DeShawn Stevenson, Chad Johnson, Gary Payton--weren't technically there. Some of the replacements--Andray Blatche--weren't technically bloggable athletes. But there were plenty of highlights, which I'll get to in a few hours. Trust me, you should have gone. The A-1 top-of-the-line highlight, of course, is pictured below, in video nabbed by the wonderful ladies at D.C. Fab, who also have a wonderful photo gallery. Caron Butler, smartly deciding not to risk his limbs playing basketball against Shawne Merriman, coached the "Wizards" team, along with co-coaches Melyssa Ford--whose clothes couldn't stop her body parts, they could only try to contain them--and R&B singer Tiffany Evans. ...

The NBA finals are a rematch of one of the great basketball rivalries: the Celtics vs. the Lakers. But for Youth Radio's Brandon McFarland, the great rivalry of this season isn't in the finals, it's the dust-up between DeShawn Stevenson and LeBron James — and their rap proxies, Soulja Boy and Jay-Z. ...

I agree with John Hollinger about the Wizards' questionable offseason moves: In three seasons with the trio of Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler, the Wizards have won 43, 41 and 42 games and haven't made it past the first round of the playoffs. The three players are 26, 32 and 28, respectively, so it seems likely that we've seen about the best we're going to get from them. They're an average team, and without an infusion of vastly better players around them, they'll keep being an average team. Yet instead of blowing that trio up, the Wizards took a Bob-Beamonesque leap of faith this week. First they extended Jamison for four years and $50 million, and then they offered Arenas a monstrous six-year, $127 million package. Given that Arenas is coming off a major knee injury that kept him sidelined nearly all of last season and is heavily dependant on his quickness to be an elite scorer, his offer in particular appears to be a reach. The trouble is that I think the Wizards think our "big three" is really superb and the team is only average because they have a below-average supporting cast. I don't think the evidence bares that out, either if you look at certain fancy statistical metric or simply the commonsense observation that losing Gilbert Arenas didn't hurt the team very much. Brendan Haywood, Antonio Daniels, DeShawn Stevenson, and Andray Blatche aren't great basketball players but as 4-7 guys in the rotation they're totally ...

Let the courting begin. The NBA free agency period began at 12:01 am Tuesday. What will the Orlando Magic do? Let's all keep in mind that this is not last summer. In 2007, the Magic and General Manager Otis Smith had oodles under the salary cap to throw Rashard Lewis a $118 million bone. This year, the well is all dried up. All we have this summer is our good looks, the lure of playing with Dwight Howard, sunshine, no state taxes, a shot at a championship and the mid-level exception (circa $5.6 million a year) to try to woo free agents to town. That list of unrestricted free agents is less than overwhelming. Baron Davis has shockingly opted out of a Golden State deal that would have payed him $17.8 million next season. Baron, what in the name of DeShawn Stevenson are you and your agent thinking? Perhaps Davis and Arenas will switch uniforms? I don't know, but I am pretty sure that Baron Davis will go down as the only person in the history of the world to walk away from nearly $18 mil in guaranteed money. Other names on that list include Elton Brand (expected to re-sign with LAC), Gilbert Arenas (expected to re-up with Washington), Corey Maggette and Michael Pietrus. Let's put the Bulls' Chris Duhon on this list as well for Magic purposes. Duhon may make a nice defensive-minded back up in Orlando. The top five restricted free agents are as follows: Andre Igoudala, Josh Smith, Jose Calderon, Luol Deng and Monta Ellis. With the possib ...

This is the year to see if the trio of Arenas/Butler/Jamison can make some noise.... And if they prove they can - then next season (2009-10) the Wizards are positioned to make a run at the Title. Here are the players under contract in the 2009-2010 season:Gilbert Arenas Antawn Jamison Caron Butler DeShawn Stevenson Andray Blatche  Nick Young (Team Option) Darius Songaila Oleksiy Pecherov (Team Option) Dominic McGuire  (Team Option) JaVale McGee and $20 Million in Expiring Contracts: Etan Thomas $7,350,000 Antonio Daniels $6,600,000 Brendan Haywood  $6,000,000 With the outstanding Free Agent class at the end of the 2009-10 season (LeBron James, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer, Dirk Nowitzki, Amare Stoudemire, Steve Nash, Manu Ginobli, Marcus Camby and many more.) , the Wizards are positioned with over $20 Million in expiring contracts to take advantage. Keeping in mind that with Butler, Arenas and Jamison all but sewed up for years to come, the Wizards will never be able to participate in any big time Free Agent signings.... They just won't be able to get far enough under the Salary Cap.... BUT, those Expiring Contracts will be valuable trade assets. (Just think of what the Lakers got for Kwame Brown's expiring contract)... Any teams wishing to participate in that Free Agent pool, will be coming to the Wizards with attractive offers for those expiring contracts. Say the Lakers don't think their current core can compete any mor ...

Wizards get: Vince Carter   NJ gets: Darius Songaila, DeShawn Stevenson and Etan Thomas   Why Washington does this deal: They get an established 20point scorer. He averaged 21 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds per game. When motivated, Vince Carter is one of the best Shooting Guards in the game. With 4 legitimate big time scorers, there will be fewer games where the Wizards go flat Offensively. Salary wise, the Wizards take on a couple of extra years, but the Cap situation would stay the same, even in the out years.   Why NJ does this deal: They get Vince Carter's bloated salary off the books so they can go after LeBron James in 2010. ...

That isn’t to say that Bryant is the only player in the league to have his teammates wear his shoe. The Washington Wizards’ Antonio Daniels and DeShawn Stevenson both wear Gilbert Arenas’ GilIIZero. After Kobe and Gilbert, however, you’d be hard pressed to find another player who has teammates who wears his shoes. NBA.com: It’s Gotta Be the Shoes ...

Free agency starts tomorrow, and with it comes the chance that some current Wizards might find new homes this off-season.  Today, we give you the chance to weigh in on whether or not you think our free agents will stay in D.C. or be with a new team next season.   In our second installment, we'll be taking a look at Roger Mason. Why he'd stay: Roger is from the D.C. area, so a Last season, Roger gave an inexperience and streaky bench a steady contributor that could come in and produce. Without question, Roger has enjoyed the most success in his NBA career while in Washington.  Why mess with success? Why he'd go: With Nick Young slotted as the shooting guard of the future for the Wizards, and DeShawn Stevenson slotted as the shooting guard of the present, it doesn't leave a lot of room for someone who doesn't fill either spot. Gilbert and Antawn's salaries will take up most of the available cap space, so Roger will probably be able to get a better contract somewhere else. So do you think we'll see Roger back next season?  With 0 being "I've already sold my Roger Mason bobblehead on eBay" and 100 being "I just ordered a new, authentic Roger Mason #8 jersey" rank how confident you are that The Potomac Rainmaker will be back next season. This trade proposal is just something to think about, its far from the answer to all the wizards problems, but it would/could certainly upgrade our talent level without sacrificing much.  This trade is assuming jamison and arenas resign and their salaries flip flop and the wizards cap number stays about the same.  And also, its not contingent upon that fact. (i would do this trade before i did the eddy curry trade i earlier proposed) Wizards Trade Etan Thomas DeShawn Stevenson Darius Songaila to the Chicago Bulls for Larry Hughes Aaron Gray It works in the espn trade machine. Why the Bulls do it? They have a loaded backcourt and need to move at least 1, probably 2, from the hinrich, gordon, hughes situation.  Hughes has a large contract they dont want and this trade breaks that down into more manageable pieces for any continued dealing they do.  Thomas and Stevenson's contracts run just as long as hughes' and songaila's runs for just one more year.  Stevenson clears the point guard spot while bringing to the bulls the same things he brought to the wizards last year: defense, shooting, and some leadership.  He is a good piece for that young team as they try to learn how to win.  (btw, if im a championship  contender trying to find my own james posey, Stevenson is that type of player) Thomas and songaila are both good players for the bulls to have on their roster.  I expect them to make several moves this offseason and they are just ...

I'll preface this by saying that what I'm proposing is going to sound crazy. Also, it's Friday and I do not have the desire to do the math, so I apologize for that. The Wizards are ever so quietly angling themselves to make a major push for Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh. Major names in the league are going to be hitting the market in the summer of 2011. The Nets aren't hiding the fact that would love to build their team around LeBron. The love the idea so much, in fact, that they are willing to build their team around him now despite the fact that he does not play for the Nets. Could it be possible that teams are posturing for the other big names as well...years before they hit the market? Take...say...the Washington Wizards for example. Here are some numbers that come off the books that year. Etan Thomas - $6,373,900 DeShawn Stevenson - $3,348,215 Antonio Daniels - $5,800,000 Brendan Haywood - $5,000,000 Dominic McGuire - $427,16 That is going to free up around $20 million. Here is why this scenario is possible... Nobody really wants to play in Canada. What a terrible market for a superstar to be in. Bosh has already proven that he is willing to go to great lengths to get some bigger lights shining on him. If anyone thinks he is staying in Toronto longer than he has to is kidding themselves. He signed his courtesy contract just like LeBron and D-Wade. The Heat just drafted a franchise player and are most definitely on the u ...
