The afterglow of Kansas’ national championship season just lost some more of its luster with word that the Dallas Independent School District intends to re-open an investigation into alleged grade changes for forward Darrell Arthur, one the of stars on the Jayhawks’ title team who has since left the university after his sophomore year for the NBA. Superintendent Michael Hinojosa has asked for an independent review of the academic records of Arthur and his former high school teammates at Dallas South Oak Cliff. An investigation into another player forced the school to forfeit the 2005 state title. But the school district cleared all the players on South Oak Cliff’s 2004 and 2006 state championship team. But the ABC affiliate in Dallas, which was conducting a followup, found that investigators did not interview all the witness and failed to check Arthur’s grades in algebra, theater arts and English. If the district decides Arthur did not have the credits necessary to graduate from high school, Kansas could forfeit all games in which he participated. Arthur, a rookie with the Memphis Grizzlies, has refused all interview requests. He and Mario Chalmers have other issues after being thrown out of the NBA Rookie transition program this summer when they were caught with marijuana and women in their room. Darrell Arthur, the former South Oak Cliff star who was at the center of a grades scanda l, didn't get his NBA career off to a great start. From ESPN.com: Rookies Mario Chalmers of the Miami Heat and Darrell Arthur of the Memphis Grizzlies were thrown out of the NBA's Rookie Transition Program on Wednesday morning after being caught in their hotel room at Doral Arrowwood in Rye Brook, N.Y., with marijuana, according to sources. Chalmers and Arthur, teammates on Kansas' national championship squad, both went much later than anticipated in the draft. Not sure if character concerns played any part in their slide. I still think the Mavs should have traded up into the early second round to grab Chalmers, who is better than any backup point guard on the Dallas roster. And I won't even make a joke about the chemistry he could have had with Josh Howard. ... Source: blogs.orlandosentinel.com --- 38 days ago
