Well, it’s pretty safe to say that with the exception of Big Nog and contractually obligated Randy Couture, the best heavyweights in the world are not in the UFC. As a matter of fact, there were more Heavyweight fights on the main card of Affliction: Banned then there were on the last 6 UFC shows combined. The heaviest division is indeed the lightest of them all in the UFC, but exactly how light is it? On UFC.com , there are 21 fighters listed when you breakdown by division. Of those 21 fighters, all things remaining the same, four of them have fought their last fight for the UFC. The four? Dan “The Beast” Severn, “The Natural” Randy Couture, “The Pit Bull” Andrei Arlovski, and Justin Eilers. Severnhas not fought in the UFC since UFC 27. He is listed solely due to his UFC Hall of Fame status, as is Mark Coleman, however Coleman is still looking to fight in the UFC. Couture’s issues with the UFC have been long drawn out and well documented, but realistically he may never fight in the UFC, if ever again. Many are hoping for a super-fight with WAMMA Heavyweight Champion and arguably the best pound for pound fighter in the world, Fedor Emelianenko, but that may be just talk for now. Arlovski is set to square off versus Fedor for the WAMMA Championship in October, and has fought his last fight with the UFC at UFC 82 in March 2008. Justin Eilers just loss the inaugural EliteXC Heavyweight Championship match to Antonio Silva this past S ...

Now that the Olympics are almost over (and too bad, too-- where else am I going to find 75 hours of swimming on the tube?), many Olympians need to consider what they will do next. Some will turn pro. Some will go on the lecture circuit. Some will transition into the corporate world. But only a special few will take that truly extraordinary leap—and become professional wrestlers. Below are five athletes who traded their Olympic rings for wrestling rings, by competing in the grappling big leagues, Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Entertainment. Before we get down and dirty, though, a few qualifications: -- Dan “The Beast” Severn-- former Ultimate Fighting Champion who had a proverbial cup of coffee with WWE back in 1998-- never competed in any Olympic Games; however, he reportedly did serve as an alternate for two Olympic wrestling teams. -- Todd Okerlund, son of easily-agitated former commentator “Mean” Gene Okerlund, competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics for the U.S. Hockey Team; however, since he’s never actually been involved in wrestling, I didn’t want to include him on the list. -- Willem Ruska of Holland, a two-time gold medalist in judo, apparently went into pro-wrestling in the late 70’s. Unfortunately, except for one fight he had with Japanese legend Antonio Inoki in February 1976 (Ruksa lost), I know nothing about the man. -- Supposedly, the 400-plus pound amateur wrestler Chris Taylor—famous for being the heavies ... The Ultimate Fighting Championship is arguably the fastest growing sport in the world and is becoming increasingly popular with Sportingbet Australia clients. As a fan of mixed martial arts since Dan Severn, Mark Coleman, Ken Shamrock, Royce Gracie and Tank Abbott were circling the cage, I couldn’t be happier with the sports progression. Not only [...] ... props: MMAmania.com Excerpt courtesy of Five Ounces of Pain: “As for Oct 4th; that was our spot. Ken Shamrock with his name and giant ego butted in line to get a slice of Kevin Kimbo Slice Ferguson. At 103 years of age Ken Shamrock usurped our rightful place against the YouTube champ. Our sincerest hope is that Ken Shamrock whips Kimbo Slice and then we can finally euthanize the “World’s Most Dangerous Man” and relegate him to some MMA dinosaur exhibit. Maybe taxidermy him and Dan Severn and place them on a rotating pedestal where they can endlessly circle each other. If Ken Shamrock proves to be more sham then rock and Kimbo Slice beats him, then the Kimbo Slice hype grows even greater. Dude is already more myth then Sasquatch, Chupacabra and a fucking unicorn combined. Kimbo Slice is the black Yeti…So go ahead Kimbo Slice and make us wait while you fight Tank Abbott and Ken Shamrock. Hell, why not fight Keith Hackney, Harold Howard, Fred Ettish and the rest of Jurassic MMA? And while your shuckin’ and duckin’ we will be hustlin’ and muscilin’ and when the bell finally tolls the only real question left is … do you wake up looking at canvas or arena lights?” – Elite XC heavyweight Brett Rogers and his Minnesota camp, Team Bison, issued a letter to Five Ounces Of Pain voicing their disapproval over the company’s recent announcement of Ken Shamrock vs. Kimbo Slice for the October 4 card on CBS. Many people, including Brett Rogers, believe ... Source: mixed-martial-arts.blogspot.com --- 54 days ago
At UFC 82 on March 1st, 2008 in Columbus, Ohio the UFC's very first heavyweight champion, Mark Coleman was inducted into the UFC hall of fame. Later in the evening it was announced that he will fight UFC newcomer and college and professional wrestling legend Brock Lesnar. Coleman made it very clear in a quick interview with Joe Rogan at the pay-per-view event Saturday night that he is not retired and that he has been wanting to get back into the octagon and fight. Coleman, now 43 years old, began a dominant run in the UFC back in 1996 winning the tournaments at UFC 10 and 11 then defeating Dan Severn for the heavyweight title at UFC 12. Coleman is 15-8 in his professional career and was an NCAA National Champion Wrestler at Ohio State. Still, Coleman recognizes that he is the underdog against Lesnar but says, "Don't bet the house against me." He took the fight with 5 months notice and the fight is scheduled to take place in August. ... Source: wahzoh.blogspot.com --- 54 days ago
Despite numerous unsuccessful checks for a nest this year to the Severn River Bridge , it appears as if the Peregrines may finally have set up shop. More details will soon be learned. US Fish & Wildlife Endangered Species Biologist Craig Koppie will be sneaking a peak sometime soon. With any luck, I might be able to join in on the fun. I will certainly keep you posted. In the meantime, here are three superb photos (taken by Craig) of the Peregrine Falcon Family from the Route 495 American Legion Bridge that connects Montgomery County, Maryland with Northern Virginia .
