Stock Ford-150 pick-up trucks, Indy 4 and Transformers star Shia LeBeouf learned to his regret early Sunday morning, aren't made for going airborne like CG and stunt cars. The actor was trying to make a left turn at the (somewhat notorious for its fender-smashers) West Hollywood intersection of La Brea and Fountain around 3 a.m. when his pick-up collided with a second vehicle, the Associated Press reported . His truck rolled and landed upside down, and was shown looking battered on local television. LeBoeuf, who has injuries to a knee and hand (the latter serious enough to necessitate surgery), was booked on suspicion of  D.U.I. but freed on "field release" to have his injuries attended to at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where he was reported to still be Sunday night. His unnamed woman passenger was reported to be uninjured. The unidentified couple in the second vehicle suffered various injuries, or so they volunteered to Fox News in a phone call. LeBeouf's misdemeanor D.U.I. was a result, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Wolf said, of a quick realization at the accident location: "It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest," Wolf said. LeBeouf, 22, a fast-rising young star who was in the break-out hit Disturbia before going on to work for Steven Spielberg opposite Harrison Ford in the worldwide hit I ndiana Jones and the Temple of the Cr ...

A Grand Island man who racked up four DUIs in three counties in a month has been sentenced in the last of his Hall County cases. Michael Van Boening, 24, was fined $400 and was sentenced to 60 days in jail. He was given credit for 180 days he has already spent in jail. He was also ordered not to drive for six months, 90 days of which will be an administrative driver's license revocation. He was scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 8, but he waived his right to presentence investigation and was sentenced in Hall County District Court Wednesday. The case stemmed from a Jan. 20 stop in Grand Island in which Van Boening was driving drunk with his then 8-month-old daughter in the vehicle. According to court documents, Van Boening had a blood alcohol content of 0.149. The legal limit for driving in Nebraska is 0.08. After a bench trial, Hall County District Judge William Wright found Van Boening not guilty of misdemeanor child abuse because there was reasonable doubt that he intentionally placed the child in peril of probable harm. However, he found Van Boening guilty of driving under the influence. The Jan. 20 arrest was the first of several for Van Boening. On Jan. 26, he was charged with misdemeanor child abuse when he left his daughter home alone. The case was dismissed by Hall County Judge David Bush and the girl is now in foster care. On Feb. 2, Van Boening was again stopped for DUI. He was sentenced in Hall County in March to 14 days in ...

John Calkins, the police chief of Pacific, Wash., was arrested last night on suspicion of driving under the influence . Calkins was pulled over in Bonney Lake after a citizen called 911 to report a possible drunk driver. The chief claimed he couldn't take a roadside breathalyzer test because of a "medical condition involving his throat." We are familiar with his condition, we believe its scientific name is bullshit. To us, this sounds distinctly like an excuse only a fellow cop could get away with after being pulled over soused. Thin blue line, indeed. ...
