Hello Everyone! My Setup: Installation date: Tomorrow Hardware: 2701HG-B 2Wire Wireless Gateway Asante FR1004LC Router /w parallel print server (Connected to my current Charter Cable Modem) D-Link DI-524 Router (WAN not connected, DHCP disabled, only used as Wireless AP) Wiring: 1. Household is modern star topology with each RJ11 jack directly connected to the NID with its own home run of CAT 5-type wiring (6 lines) 2. Basement has a CAT 5 home run to a 10x punch panel distribution "module" (PCB backplane connecting 4 wire pairs) Punch panel connects to 2 phone jacks in the basement My questions: 1. What type of wire does AT&T run to the NID? Not really important just wondering :uhh: (House was built in 2003) 2. How would you recommend connecting the 2701HG to the NID? Currently I ran approx. 70' CAT 5 to the home run in the basement (terminated the home run into a punch down RJ11) and connected the 2Wire 2 port DSL/PHONE filter to this home run. Then I punched down the PHONE to my distribution block. (I ran the 70' because I intend on installing the 2701HG with other existing equipment on a APS UPS) 3. Should I home run the 2701HG and only use the in-line filters for the phone lines? 4. Should I get a DSL line splitter, punch down all my phone lines and use the splitter? (I realize there is a CallVantage Forum here but this is related to the above questions) I have CallVantage on order with a new # which if with WAF is there I will a ... Forum Users: I am a new subscriber to AOL Canada's Broadband / DSL service. When I use AOL Canada supplied software (AOL 9.0 VR) with the AOL Canada supplied Speed Stream 4200 device I have no problems accessing the Internet. If I attempt to log in with my, recently purchased, TP-Link TL-WR340GD router connected...using PPPoE...the router's Log indicates that it connects to AOL Canada but the Username and Password is rejected ("PAP authentication failed.") The same Username and password works fine if I use AOL supplied software (AOL 9.0 VR)? If I do not connect the router and use only the AOL Supplied Speed Stream 4200 device and use MS Internet Explorer with PPPoE (instead of AOL's 9.0 VR)...the Username and Password is rejected? Even though the same Username and Password works with no problem when I use the AOL Canada supplied AOL 9.0 VR application? Has anyone had a similar experience? Is/are there known solution(s)? Any suggestions for trouble-shooting techniques that I can follow step-by-step? Questions/comments/suggestions? Please advise. Cheers+ MarkG ... Source: www.dslreports.com --- 20 hours ago
And about a month ago they started throttly p2p bandwidth without sending an email warning of such, which once again violated their ToS because it states you will be informed by email of changes, also limiting bandwidth for any reason is illegal and against the law because they did it without notice and without a valid reason, bittorrent programs are legal software that legal companies use to distribute software, but becuase its used for pirating lots of isp's are throttling bandwidth, aol cuts mine from 515k down to 30k, that is totally illegal they cannot limit the bandwidth i pay for when i use it to download legal software with a legal program, that is the same as calling you a software pirate without any proof and punishing you for it, and also they didn't inform customers that they implemented this practice, and when i phoned about it once again tech support had 0 idea what i was talking about, they had no idea what throttling was or a p2p program or bittorrent and they assumed i had a problem with my modem or line even though i explained that the throttling happens at exactly the same time everyday and stps at the same time at night about 2am, i tried to explain that my connection going from 515k to 30k everyday at the same time and then going back to normal at the same time was most assuredly a case of them throttling my bandwidth, so he didn't understand and opened a ticket, basically passed the buck and said i would be contac ... I found a post from about a year ago that said: "If you clear your cookies and cache in your browser, and go to the att website, you can order dry DSL through the website as long as you dont put in your phone number in the website. You can see if your location qualifies for dry DSL, and see the prices available.. I did this and got this message: "Our system indicates that our DSL service, AT&T High Speed Internet, is not available at your location. However, let's see if we have another solution for you: You may qualify for satellite broadband from AT&T. Learn More If DSL becomes available at my location, Contact Me" I've had DSL Pro at this address for about four years. What gives, and how can I check for dry DSL availability without subjecting myself to an ATT customer service phone call? Thanks! ... Source: www.dslreports.com --- 1 day ago
When I had ATT DSL Pro with Voice Line my speed was always well above 2.0 Mbps, but now that I have only a Dry Loop (no Voice Line) it never goes above 1.6 MBPS! Is this how ATT "punishes" those of us who drop their Voice Line? Anyone else notice this? ... Source: eon.businesswire.com --- 12 hours ago

I'll keep this short. Certainly the Comcast forum has had its share of "hurt letters" by users who switch to DSL or FIOS and want to give a final F-U. I liked Comcast -- I never thought I'd be one of 'em. I liked Comcast HSI, because it generally worked very well and it was very open and useful for net junkies like me. I thought it was surprising when the company was caught blocking P2P uploads, but I kept the faith and figured if I hung on long enough that they'd change their ways. I've had my service since it was TCI, then AT&T Broadband, and now Comcast. Clearly, it's now going to take an act of the FCC to change their ways, because Philadelphia has drawn a line in the Sand(vine). That would have been okay, too, because once Sandvine was gone, things could return back to normal, right? No, because Comcast decided to personally attack me several days ago, in a public filing in the FCC case. The last time I looked, I was a paying customer in good standing. Yes, I had a grievance but I tried to remain factual and objective and positive throughout, working within the system and through all levels of corporate and government channels and for what? To have my qualifications questioned by a bunch of bumbling bureaucrats at "One Comcast Center?" What the hell does the contents of my blog -- which neither supports nor refutes the facts of this case -- have to do with anything? Answer -- nothing. When the AP and EFF have independently confirm ... Source: www.dslreports.com --- 3 hours ago
Hi. I'm trying to help a friend with his small business website currently hosted by AT&T (former SBC/SNET). He is an AT&T customer for phone/DSL/website hosting, and has an sbcglobal acct for personal email throught that DSL acct. There are several website domain-based email addresses associated with the hosting plan, which ATT/Yahoo links to that person's personal email (whether it be an sbcglobal.net, yahoo.com, etc email addy). He is moving the business, dropping the DSL in favor of Comcast HSI, but is keeping AT&T for phone service, and would like to keep (for now) AT&T as his webhosting. Since AT&T and Yahoo are so closely knit, is this even possible? If he drops the DSL acct, will AT&T/Yahoo drop his webhosting because they are linked somehow? Eventually, the plan is to move the webhosting over to Comcast and establish the business emails through them. I know this sounds a little confusing, but my initial hunch is that AT&T/sbc/snet have you over a barrel in sorts because all of their services are so closely linked, and that this will not be possible. I realize he will lose all sbcglobal email addresses the moment he drops DSL service, which may be problem in itself. Also, is it possible to pay for business webhosting without having DSL/HSI service through AT&T? ... Find more results for DSL on RSSMicro.com |
