I tried to finish “Spore” last night. I failed. But as I noted in my write-up last night about my first week playing the game, EA’s experimental game is not at all sized like a play through of Sid Meier’s “Civilization.” No, “Spore” is paced like an epic and is taking me more than a dozen hours [...] ... Rookie wide receiver Jordy Nelson recently finished up his first training camp in the NFL, and Packers.com checked in with him for the final time to get his thoughts and experiences in this training camp DIARY. Nelson was a consensus All-America selection at Kansas State, and was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award in 2007. He posted school records as a senior with 122 receptions for 1,606 yards after beginning his career with the Wildcats as a walk-on safety. In the Packers' 23-21 loss vs. Tennessee in the preseason finale last Thursday, Nelson returned two kickoffs for 50 yards, including a 29-yarder. I thought the last game went well. I got a chance to return a couple of kicks and was assignment sound in everything. I think I went out and did everything I was supposed to do and it made me feel confident after that game going into the season. The final roster cuts are tough on everyone. Here are vignettes from the first day of the GOP convention, compiled by staff writer Irene Jay Liu for a special edition of our Capitol Confidential blog at http://timesunion.com/election: Faso's three P's John Faso, an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention, took some time between the New York delegation's Wednesday breakfast and lunch to talk about Palin, Pataki and property taxes. Faso, the Republican gubernatorial candidate in 2006, said he was looking forward to Gov. Sarah Palin's speech Wednesday night. ``You can feel the excitement,'' he said. As for the lack of New York star power at the convention, Faso was quick to point out that most of the elected officials were originally slated as Rudy Giuliani delegates. But he acknowledged that the close elections at home were a salient factor for the relative low-wattage attendence. ``There are a lot of competitive races, and people are properly focused on them,'' Faso said. ``You can't get many votes in Minneapolis.'' (Or St. Paul.) Faso pointed out that many of the issues Republicans could win on in the state were issues highlighted during his 2006 gubernatorial run -- namely high spending and property tax reform. He lauded Gov. David Paterson, a Democrat, for taking on both issues. ``I'm very pleased that this has made it into the mix,'' Faso said. ``I ran on this, (and) I'm just pleased that Gov. Paterson has picked it up. I care more about the end result tha ... Source: www.shetlandtimes.co.uk --- 2 days ago
