Hello, I'm struggling with a problem for some time now. How / Can I setup my Zywall 2WG to add the IP-addresses assigned by DHCP to DNS? I would like my hosts to use dynamic IP-addresses and would like to reach these host by using the hostname. I've setup the DHCP server which works fine. My hosts only use the DNS server of the Zywall. And communication to internet also works. The only problem is that the host names aren't added to dns. If added manually this also works. Thanks in advance. ...

My internet router is connected into an ASA firewall which connects which connects into 3com switch-A. I also have one Cisco 2801-gateway connected. into swtich-A. Users-145 My problem is as follows. This past Friday everyone connected to the internet with no problems, here on this Monday however - the majority of people not everyone can not get out to the internet. Everyone gets an ip, but not everyone can ping the gateway. When I put a know good ip number on a workstation that is not getting out to the internet at first, then with this ip the workstation can now get out. Microsoft looked at the problem and says it's not theirs. COuld this be a switch problem. ...

My brother in-law called me to tell me he's having problems with his Intel C2D MacBook purchased in November of last year. Apparently its having DHCP issues where it loses its DHCP settings every few minutes. The only way(s) to get back online is to release/renew the IP every time it occurs. This occurs on both the wired and wireless network connections on his college campus. Anyone have any ideas what this could be? I told him to take it to his nearest Apple repair center since he does have AppleCare. ...

I am looking to set up a Managed Switch (http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=729115) with a series of vlans, which all have access to 1 wan port (with 30 static IPs available). Is there a way I can configure this so that the switch acts as a DHCP server, with a different zone per vlan, and that I can assign a different external IP to each vlan/DHCP zone. I assume this would require some sort of NAT to occur within the switch. Essentially, this would be like virtual routers within a switch. If it is not possible with this switch, is there another in the price range that would be able to perform this functionality? Any help would be appreciated. ...

OOL DHCP Handling Issue returns again It seems that the same issue has returned from OOL for the ZyXEL P-330W that the was documented last year in this forum. The router sends a unicast release and renew and does not get a renewed IP. I have again verified this by changing the router to a back-up D-Link which works perfectly. I noticed that they did change the IP subnet and now this has disabled the ZyXEL router which is using this method of releasing and renewing an IP address when it boots up in its firmware. If you are having this issue with your ZyXEL router on OOL please add to this string. This issue is the same as last year and we need some visibility for CV on this issue so we can use our ZyXEL routers again. ...

Hi, The problem that I am having is that in vmswif0 the IP is static (internal network), and vswif1 is DHCP (internet). When I add VMKernel to vswif1 and set the IP address to "obtain automatically" the gateway is the gateway of vswif0 and is greyed out. Suffice to say that I can't get an IP on vswif1. I have attached a screenshot with the default gateway of the NIC that is attached to the internet... Any help would be great. Thanks ...

Hi. We are having problems when migrating a DHCP on one host to another. The server works fine on host A but as soon as it is migrated to host B, it doesn`t issue addresses. DHCP server services are all up and running and we`ve tried stopping/starting the service but it will still not issue addresses - migrate it back and it`s fine! Since we use VLAN`s, the physical port the hosts are connected to are both configured for trunk porting. DRS is now diabled for this one server. Without going into more detail about other configurations until requested (and both configurations "look" similar on both hosts) are there any quick points to look for? Thanks in advance. Happy to supply more info as required! Message was edited by: boovee - sorry for posting again!! ...

Hi! We are having isssues migrating a DHCP form ESX Host A to ESX Host B (ESX3.5). Migration takes place fine and all services are up and running but the server refuses to issues addresses...migrate it back again and it`s fine! Both servers appear to be configured the same and we have the physical port the two hosts connected to, on trunk port configurations (since we use VLAN`s). Are there any quick pointers to look at (without going into more detail info about setup which I`m glad to do upon request)? Thanks in advance! ...

Fellow virtualization expert Andrew Kutz sums it up well that a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution should be absent of a true desktop for new deployments. Re-using full desktop systems is a nice option when using a VDI technology to allow full use of existing assets, but there can still be a higher support effect [...] ...

We would like to roll out an application object that can pull out the DNS server settings from Windows XP workstations so that we can then send out DNS server information through the DNS/DHCP server. The current DNS settings are hard coded into the machines (Statically set by having gone to each machine and added that information by hand) however we would like to automate this removal process would anyone have some ideas as to how we can do this? Thank you for your time and considerations, Daniel ...

Hi, i need urgent help since i cannot understand why my PC cannot access internet. I have got a DHCP modem > 1720 Router > 2900 switch > computers. Now i conigured the router so that it aquires un outside NAT via DHCP and use the internal network 192.168.0.x. the routers internal NAT address is 192.168.0.1 and I gave this same number as a gateway for the switch which has ip address 192.168.0.250 The computers all aquire automatically an ip via DHCP, but the problem is they do not have internet access.
