Although waninkoko 's cIOS Custom Firmware installer is a popular program, some circles in the Wiibrew community prefer not to use it. As an alternative, Wiibrew dev tona has provided cIOS PatchMii Installer, an alternative to waninkoko's cIOS program. Unlike waninkoko's program, PatchMii doesn't require you to have the specific IOS WAD to install. Instead, it downloads the existing IOS37 from Nintendo's servers, patches it, and installs it as IOS249. The program acts as both installer and uninstaller. If you run the program and it detects IOS249 already installed on your system, it will uninstall it for you. It's basically like an on and off switch. Tona seems to be making a habit out of making clones of waninkoko's programs. He has also released an alternative to waninkoko's Wii Region Changer before (check out AnyRegion Changer in the related articles). Here's how tona describes the differences between PatchMii, and waninkoko's cIOS: All of the patches are the same as in Waninkoko's cIOS. Although I haven't checked, I'd be willing to bet that the patched IOS modules have the same produced sha-1 hash as Waninkoko's installer generates. Except for Content 0. Hi, I've been out of the psp Custom Firmware scene for a while. My last update is 3.40 OE-A (And it's been very stable until now some newer games that need higher fw) I need some pointers to show me the quickest update path to more recent (or latest if it is stable enough) cust fw. (I am using old fat psp btw) 1.) M33 still the most widely used Custom fw, true? 2.) I heard that I should do 3.52 M33 -> 3.52 M33-4 -> 3.90 M33-3... is the jump that too abrupt? 3.) Is there any help to roll back cust fw (to 3.40 OE-A or some where higher) in case something went wrong during this update path? 4.) Is 4.01 M33-2 w/ 1.5 kern add on stable enough? Or it's better to stay in 3.90 M33-3 + 1.5 kern addon? Another side note, I want to play Patapon... that's part of the reason why I start to jump back to this "fun boat" in the first place ;). ...

You know what was the first thing I thought when I got my hands on a PSP? This screen would make a really great second computer monitor... No, I'm just kidding; never in my life would I think that. But apparently PSP homebrew developer Jochen Schleu did, and worked up a mod that lets you use your PSP as a 960x544 resolution passive display. The program works for both the slim and original versions if they're running on Custom Firmware, and will hook up to any computer that's running Windows XP. Vista users hoping for some tiny screen goodness are out of luck this time around. [ PSP Updates via Kotaku ] ...

If you've turned your $60 router into a user-friendly super-router with open-source Firmware Tomato , you already know that Tomato can boost your Wi-Fi signal, track bandwidth usage, and set Quality of Service rules with ease. But if you're a big fan of Adblock Plus —the most popular Firefox extension among Lifehacker readers —you can save yourself an extension installation and universally block ads across your entire home network by adding a Custom script to your Tomato Firmware. Here's how it works: There are several ad-blocking scripts available that could work, but the one I'm using comes from this forum post . Thanks Tad! Installation 1. Open the Tomato Admin Scripts interface You'll need to login with the user name and password you set in our instructions for installing Tomato . Once you're logged in, make sure to click on the WAN Up tab. 2. Copy the ad-block script to Tomato I'd recommend going directly to the source , since the author of the script updates it regularly in the top post. As of this writing, the script looks like this: #!/bin/sh ## Adblock script [Version 2.1 | 08 July 2008 | 3778 bytes] ## ## Created by Adrian Jon Kriel: root-AT-extremecooling-DOT-org ## ## tomato WAN Up script ## ## 0 = disable ## 1 = enable ## (1) = default value ## optimising of dnsmasq, (1) eval OPTDNSMASQ="1" ## automatic updating, (1) eval AUTOUPDATE="1" ## MVPS HOSTS ~18,500 lines, 680 Kbyte, (1) eval MVPSSOURCE="1" ## pgl.yoyo.org ~ ...

The installation stopped suddenly and the screen froze on the spinning wheel on both instances. Then while I tried to hard boot the phone (pressed the sleep/wake button and home button till the iphone switches off) the phone just refuses to start at gets stuck on the boot-up logo. I again have to pwn using a Custom Firmware and I end up loosing all my data. I am sick of this and need to know whats happening. ...
